JOB DESCRIPTION

CLASS TEACHER

Purpose:

The Class Teacher is accountable for the learning and wellbeing of all children in their
care under the direction of the Principal by sustaining the aims and objectives of the school;
applying the policies through which they are to be achieved;
having high expectations of children including a commitment to ensuring that they
achieve their full educational potential
establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with
pupils
monitoring progress towards achievement.

Duties and
Responsibilities

Teaching and learning

Apply a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and


behaviour management strategies.
Have a secure knowledge and understanding of the curriculum and related
pedagogy to enable effective teaching and learning.
Build on prior knowledge and develop concepts and processes to enable learners to
apply understanding and skills.
Know and understand the relevant curricular frameworks and other relevant
initiatives applicable to their designated age range.
Plan for progression, designing effective learning sequences within lessons and
across a series of lessons.
Evaluate teaching and learning, and identify and act on areas for improvement
Use a range of skills to support teaching and learning.
Establish creative, stimulating and effective approaches to learning .
Create personalised learning opportunities so that all learners achieve their
potential
Set appropriate targets for student attainment
Promote the active involvement of pupils in their own learning, supporting reflective
practice focused on progress and learning needs.
Communicate effectively with children, promoting equality and inclusion.
Adopt a creative and constructive approach to innovation, adapting practice where
benefits are identified.
Identify and support the progress, development and wellbeing of all children.
Establish a purposeful and safe learning environment conducive to learning
Work alongside other UP(I)S staff to share good practice ineffective teaching and
learning,
Carry out cover duties where necessary as directed by the Principal/Deputy.
Recognise the contribution of colleagues and parents in the wellbeing of children,
and to raising their levels of attainment.
Assessing and reporting

Know the assessment requirements and arrangements for the curriculum areas you
are trained to teach, including those relating to examinations and qualifications.
Know a range of approaches to assessment, including the importance of formative
assessment.
Make effective use of a range of assessment, recording and monitoring strategies
Assess the learning of the children you teach in order to set challenging learning
objectives.
Provide timely, accurate and constructive feedback on childrens learning, providing
feedback and targets
Know how to use local statistical information to evaluate the effectiveness of your

teaching, to monitor the progress of all pupils, and to raise levels of attainment.
Monitor and evaluate academic and pastoral standards within the classroom
Apply the schools assessment framework .
Collate and analyse classroom data to monitor pupil progress leading to the
implementation of appropriate intervention strategies
Liaise with parents and participate in consultation evenings, reporting pupil
achievements to parents and the celebration of their successes.
Teamwork

Adopt a culture of team work which values all members of the school community.
Work co-operatively with all staff to achieve the schools goals and objectives.
Work with colleagues to a high standard which supports and upholds the school's
policies, priorities and expectations.
Contribute to the application and identification of key areas of strength.
Contribute to staff development activities
Create and maintain an effective partnership with parents
Help develop community involvement within the concept of the schools vision.
Standards and quality assurance

Support the aims and ethos of the school


Have a commitment to cooperation and collaborative working.
Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviour expected from the pupils.
Uphold the standards detailed within the Professional Standards Policy document.
Manage .learners behaviour constructively.
Attend team and staff meetings, and participate in staff training where required.
Be aware of school policies and practices and share collective responsibility for their
implementation.
Other duties and responsibilities

Reflect on personal contribution to school and pupil achievements, take account of


feedback from others and review and develop professional impact.
Any other tasks reasonably directed or delegated by the Principal commensurate
with the salary and post.

The duties outlined herein may be modified by the Director of Schools to reflect or
anticipate changes in the job, commensurate with the salary and job title.
