VANGUARD OF FORESIGHT
2020
Ukraine undertook to achieve
by 2020 the 11 percent share
of energy from renewable
sources in its gross final
consumption of energy.
Key Takeaways
2020-2030
A major increase in electricity demand to 307
billion kWh per year by 2020 and 420 billion
kWh by 2030 is envisaged, and government
policy was to continue supplying half of this
from nuclear power.
2030
According to the basic scenario
in the Strategy, electricity
demand in Ukraine in 2030 will
be 50 percent higher than the
2010 level.
2016
Ukraine is an energy-scarce country, importing about 70 percent of its own natural gas consumption in 2016.
Today Ukraine is developing shale gas deposits and hoping to export this to western Europe by 2020 through the established pipeline infrastructure
crossing its territory from the east.

2030
Please be informed that the official version of Energy Strategy till 2030 was published at the website of Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine
According to the Strategy, the planned (possible) amount of installed power capacity of different RES power plants in 2030 should be as follows:
Wind energy: 3-4 Gigawatt;
Solar energy: 4 Gigawatt;
Small hydro: 1-1,5 Gigawatt of electricity and 10-15 Gigawatt of heat.
These figures are below real potential and evaluation of a number of international expert organizations. However, hope that it will not hamper the
development of the industry.
