Nelson Mandela:
Nelson Mandela is a lawyer, former rebel leader and former
President of South Africa. Regarded as the most important leader of black
Africa, he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Until 2009, he dedicated 67
years of his life to the service of humanity - like human rights lawyer and
prisoner of conscience; he even became the first president of South Africa
free. That is why in his honor the UN established the International Day of
Nelson Mandela, on the day of his birth, in order to valorize, around the

world, the fight for freedom, justice and democracy. He was the most
potent symbol of the struggle against the apartheid regime. This is a racist
system formalized in 1948, and global model for endurance. According to
Ali Abdessalam Treki, President of the General Assembly of the United
Nations, Nelson Mandela is "one of the greatest moral and political leaders
of our time."
