Ferrari Academy
20
Suspensions
The upper lever is an essential
element to determine the correct
camber, which can be achieved
thanks to the special adjustment
shims.
IMPORTANT: use only the special
shims prescribed in the spare part
manual to avoid dangerous
geometry modifications due to step
out or deformations of the shims
themselves.

This geometry has also allowed the suspension coupling points to be
moved back, so that there is enough space for housing the fuel tank.
Ferrari Academy
25

In addition, thanks to the new chassis, the retractable hard top can be
properly be fitted in its bay.
Actually, no part of the chassis interferes with the luggage compartment
(see the comparison in the figure).
Ferrari Academy
26
Suspensions
Also the front shock absorber coupling points
on the chassis have been modified to facilitate
chassis removal. In addition, this is a useful
solution to assure the correct visibility angle
for the driver, as the front part of the chassis
has been lowered.
Ferrari Academy
27
Suspensions
Instead of the conventional Flanblocks, the vehicle is equipped with
Silentblocks, for improved handling and noise reduction.
Ferrari Academy
28
Suspensions
The Silent block is made up of a pin integral with the chassis, a vulcanized
(hence rigid) rubber bushing and a steel casing integral with the suspension arm.
Ferrari Academy
29
Suspensions
When the suspension shakes, the arm turns and twists the vulcanized material.
These joints are thus flexible, and allow flexible movements on the three axles.

check that the bushing and the joint are clean.
If not, fastening will not be correct, not even when tightening the fastening bolt

41
There is normally an air gap between the discs and the pads (achieved thanks to
the rollback function) which prevents the pads from adhering to the discs when
there is no pressure on the brake pedal.
Rollback is a typical feature of all braking systems and, based on its calibration,
varies the system response time when the brake pedal is depressed; it must be a
compromise between safety (promptness of response) and efficiency (reduction
of friction-induced loss).
Ferrari Academy
42
The EBP function is a new ESP strategy which, based on the driving style and
conditions, eliminates the play between the pads and the discs by applying slight
pressure before the driver starts braking.
In this way, a sort of variable and not fixed rollback is obtained which, depending
on the conditions, optimises the promptness of system response.
Ferrari Academy
43
The main purpose of this function is to detect when it rains or when the road is
wet, using the rain sensor signals and as a result apply a pressure of 1.2 bar to the
hydraulic system for 1.5 seconds.
This action produces a braking torque which is always kept below the
deceleration sensing threshold and dries the disc so that optimal braking
promptness is ensured.
As long as the wet conditions persist, the procedure is repeated every 300
seconds.
Ferrari Academy
44
The BDV function is implemented only on the front axle to achieve a compromise
between system promptness and comfort.

Emergency braking
Applying the EPB lever while driving, the emergency braking function controlled
by the ESP is activated. Braking immediately produces a deceleration of 4 m/s,
which goes up to the maximum value of 6 m/s in two seconds. Deceleration is
therefore not abrupt and does not affect vehicle stability.
Emergency braking can be interrupted at any time by once again operating the
lever. If not, the vehicle will slow down until it stops.

F1 - TCS
The F1-Trac strategy is implemented in the Bosch 8.0 Premium ESP software.
Based on the GT
program selected and on road grip, it guarantees
the best possible torque delivery when driving in and coming out of a bend.
Ferrari Academy
55
F1 - TCS
If the necessary grip conditions are not given, the TCS is disabled and the Bosch
ASR is adopted as recovery strategy.

Traction Stability Control (CST) with F1-Trac drive control logic
The main characteristic that distinguishes the F1-Trac system from a conventional
traction control is the capability and accuracy of estimation (calculation) of the
grip level, which allows the driver to get the best out of vehicle performance during
sports-style driving. The advantages obtained from using the F1-Trac system are:
- maximum traction control when
coming out of a bend,
- improved stability and ease of driving
even in extreme conditions,
- possibility of taking the vehicle to
in terms of performance,
- improved driving comfort.

The ECU activates the charges when there is battery power. However, if an
accident occurs with decelerations causing an accidental disconnection of the
battery, its activation is guaranteed if there is sufficient energy reserve in the
ECU, which must last at least 150ms to ensure airbag and pretensioner
activation and updating of the events list. Activation of the rollover bars requires
more time, which will never exceed 190ms.

The control panel directly controls the HVAC (Heating,
Ventilation and Air Conditioning) unit, a spin-off from the
599 system. It is positioned under the dashboard on the
side and allows the driver to adjust the air flow and
to independently control the air flow and temperature for the
passenger and the driver.
Ferrari Academy
74

As for the 599, the anti-pollen filter can easily be reached after removing the
sliding cover under the glove compartment; it is recommended to replace it

The strategy automatically holds the HVAC fan active when the

Air bubbles may build up in the upper part of the heater, thus
limiting the heat exchange capacity and producing sharp and
unpleasant thermal oscillations in the air flow.

Vehicle configuration
PROXY (online system configuration programming) is a string of 255 bytes
stored at the end of line (EOL) by some ECUs for vehicle customisation purposes.
Examples of possible customisation are:
RH/LH drive, number of doors, sales market, wheel/tire circumference, tank
filling curve, OPT, km/mi, Hi-Fi type.
Currently the nodes that need to store (if present) the PROXY are:
NBC, NQS, NCL, NIT, NSP, NAB
The B-CAN ECUs directly store the PROXY, but not the C-CAN ECUs!
The C-CAN ECUs that need to be configured (e.g. NFR)
They read the EOL CONFIGURATION message transmitted by the NBC

Pulling and straightening techniques used for steel load-bearing bodies to restore
the shape are not permitted for space frame.
In the event of damage all the parts involved [detectable only with the specific jigs
and straightening bench] must be replaced.
To ensure the correct dimensional positions on X-Y-Z, the new parts must be
positioned using the specific jigs and straightening bench.
No repair operations may be performed on the cast parts; if they are damaged
they must be replaced
Ferrari Academy
149

Like the space frame, damaged parts must be replaced. nevertheless, for slight
damage, straightening work is permitted with heating to max 200 degrees.
Aluminium alloy materials are more fragile than steel and consequently more subject
the cracks and breakup when worked cold
Caution:
Temperatures higher than 200 degrees may affect the mechanical properties and
consequently change the material behaviour during impact.
Repairs on the space frame chassis and the aluminium bodywork may only be
performed by authorised body shops and qualified Ferrari staff

When particles of steel that may deposit in the joins and/or slits
