The relation between philosophy and Social Sciences.
Social Sciences and the problem of communication
You need to start with an obstinacy Im an advocate of methodology .On
ontology and communication
Maigret has a point, hes trying to define the phenomenon of communication
He delimits the general characteristics of the phenomenon
Communication Is not a thing to be seen but a space in which we are all the time
He has a topic in common with Alain Badiou and some other philosophers: Hes
making a clear distinction between world, subject, and maybe talking about
different relation between world and subject.
The problem is that I dont really get the theme: Is he building an ontology? What
for?
He may be thinking that he can label other approaches with respect to this. If he
can make three level of distinction in regard to the relation between communication
and subjects is cause the problematic has evolve. Doesnt mean that is doing this
for the better.
Heres where we can say that scientist doesnt necessarily need to take care of
this metaphysical issues, but be aware of them can benefit the collective work

Ideology and science

Remembering Foucault, we should ask, or efforts to clarify what a solid science
would look like may have an ulterior purpose of have some power. The theme
should go from power to biopolitics.

Science and biopolitics

So, the questions could be: solid science could be achieve, but, What for? To
normalize persons?
Habermas could be a good source of information
What is the theme after all?
What we use science for?
What should be use communication for?

Basic Questions to guide the project

1. What should/could be the role of Communication Science in the transformations
of society?
1.1 It is necessary to unpack the historical relation of Communication
(Social) Science and Natural Science to distinguish the role and problems of
each one?
2. A theoretical inquiry on the role of Communication Science is meaningful to his
empirical work?
2.1 How to think the communication and its role in society?
2.2 Why an empirical social scientist need to have a basic
understanding of this topics?

Hypothesis
1. Its role shouldnt be to control or to maintain any kind of order. Science can be
easily use as a form of ideology and thats the term we need to take into account.
1.1 Connected with the previous topic, Science needs to be aware whether
it shares an ideological function with Natural Science or not. Hence, a
historical reconstruction is needed.
2. I think a theoretical inquiry can in fact transform the aims of the discipline and
help them pointing in the right direction.

2.1 Philosophy of language, science and history should be the main

fields to think this phenomenon.
2.2 To know his role and his/her useful tools in the transformation of society

Objectives
-Avoiding the search for a unified social science, I would like to think the current
methodologies of Communication Science and its place in the transformations of
society. Theres no reason to be unified. If media and society problems are in
different levels of complexity, then we should be naturally fragmented.
-Have an idea of the useful methodologies to contemporary Communication
Science.

Relevant methodological aspects

This is a four or five year inquiry, mainly divided in two parts:
1 Historical aspects of the origins of the discipline
2 Methodological aspects on the everyday work of communicators.

Es necesario situar el tipo de problemas que deseo abordar. Qu es lo que
quiero resolver?
El problema de la comunicacin, Cul es tal? De qu servira resolverlo?
Cmo se plantea? Comunicacin de la ciencia o Epistemologa de la
comunicacin?
El objetivo ms amplio de la tesis es servir de fundamento para avanzar algunas
tesis sobre la comunicacin. Lo que me interesa de esto es responder de alguna
forma a la pregunta Qu es la comunicacin? Sobre esto planeo escribir en
extenso pero puedo adelantar que no se trata de un objeto que pueda encontrarse
en algn lugar o momento, ni se trata de un tema que pueda ser completamente
agotado por la ciencia, aunque creo que mi mejor intento de tematizarla es a
travs de ella.
Mi pensamiento es el siguiente: hacer una tesis de corte cientfico, una tesis de
ciencias sociales cuyo tema es la ciencia natural, las ciencias ecolgicas y otras,
para de esta manera ver cmo funciona la comunicacin. Cmo un poner a prueba
la teora.
