Intelligently Monitor
Your Car Tyres Pressure

OBO Tire is the worlds first all-bluetooth smart Tire Pressure Monitoring
System (TPMS) that works with both
Android and iOS devices using the
latest Bluetooth 4.0.
The main function of FOBO Tire is to
monitor the air pressure and temperatures
of passenger car tyres. The information
gathered through this monitoring will then
be wirelessly transmitted to your Android
or iOS smart phone.
Both the upper and lower thresholds of
air pressure of tyres may be set, and with
its smart algorithms, the FOBO Tire will
provide three levels of alert when these
thresholds are breached. FOBO Tire offers
users peace of mind by helping them stay
on top of tyre-related potential emergencies by alerting their smartphones well
before it reaches emergency status.
The TPMS comprises an in-car unit

(powered by 2 AA batteries) and external

tyre sensors (each unit powered by one
CR2032 battery) to be attached onto tyres.
All components in the FOBO Tire TPMS

such as General Electric and Texas Instruments. You are able to monitor your car 24
hours, seven days a week without trouble.
With the accompanying smartphone
application, you can monitor up to 20 cars

Additionally, the system is theft-deterrent as the tyre sensors are mechanically

fastened to the tyre valves and since each
FOBO Tire is locked to one specific owners
account, the TPMS app will immediately
notify the owner if any tyre sensor is missing.

Printing Biomodels in 3D
for Medical & Surgical Training

BMTI Sdn Bhd was initially set up by

Malaysias University of Malaya as a
spin-off company in 2012 to develop
and commercialise the use of 3D
printing in Medicine. The company initially
produced customised implants for patients
with maxillo-facial and neurosurgical
pathologies, and then expanded into other
areas in medicine, with their latest foray
into the development of surgical simulators
for complex neurosurgical procedures.
Surgical Biomodels, or SVBMHA
(Surgical Volumetric Biomodels of Human
Anatomy) is a range of products invented
and produced by CBMTI as an alternative
to cadavers in the medical teaching and
learning process. The Surgical Biomodels
are initially created by the reconstruction
of medical data into a 3D virtual image by
conversion of scanned data.
The virtual image is then fine-tuned,
which involves the checking of all data by a
consultant with relevant expertise to ensure

accuracy of the biomodel, and then printed

using 3D printer technology.
The Surgical Biomodels can be printed in
two ways with a single form of material,
or with multiple forms of materials. Singletype material 3D prints are usually for bony
structures, whereas multiple-type material
3D printing is for other body structures.
With input from the experts in the field of
medicine and surgery, CMBTI have achieved
the closest feel possible to real human
anatomical structures.
The biomodels can be printed accurate
to the density, elasticity and hardness of
varying body structures. Currently, the
biomodels provided in the range start from
the head and end at the spine.
A s C M B T I s e x p e r t s a r e f r o m
neurosurgical and cranio-maxillofacial
backgrounds, they are aiming to conquer
that particular region of the body in terms
of surgery and procedure types.
Cadavers provided for medical education

are usually without pathology, but with

this technology, existing patient medical
data can be converted into 3D biomodels
with pathologies. This allows for their use
as a highly effective and accurate teaching
and learning aid in medical and surgical
education.
Biomodels may be reprinted two or more
times, especially to accommodate a larger
number of students in class. Additionally,
the biomodel can also be customised,
especially when it comes to rare medical
cases. The layout of the biomodels can also
be customised based on the clients need,
such as whether a certain structure needs
to be removed.

muscular tonality or faulty fine motor skills

writing instrument and may get frustrated

with their inability to write properly.
The Qalamiy writing aid was designed
to solve these problems. The brainchild of
Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Hanafi Mohd
Yasin of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, the
Qalamiy writing aid is backed by 38 professionals in the field of Special Education.
The Qalamiy writing aid was designed
by adapting a combination of ergonomic
elements and therapeutic massage to assist
Special Education students, particularly
those who suffer from premature clutching,
to hold a pencil properly the user simply
places the aid onto the writing device (usually pencil) and slots his or her finger in the
space. This design supports and trains the
user into the correct positioning of their
digits in order to learn how to write without
straining the hand.

Unique Water Filtration System

That Uses Fish Scales

ost water filters in the market

today contain carbon-based
filters that may consist of bovine or porcine bone marrow
extracts. This fact alone may render some
forms of treated water impure to Muslims,
but additionally, may also pose health risks
due to infectious animal diseases such
as Mad Cow Disease or Foot and Mouth
Disease.
Due to this, research has been focussed
on the use of aquatic-based Hydroxyapatite
(HAp) filtration materials instead as a part
of the filtration process for piped water.
Hijrah Water Sdn Bhd (HWSB) is a Malaysian company that is actively involved in
research and development efforts in order

to improve their products.

One of this products is the unique water
filtration system that is free of animal
products of bones. HWSB has partnered
with Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris
(UPSI) to develop a water filtration system,
a product that has been commercially
available since April 2014, that utilises the
natural hydroxyapatite (HAp) compound
extracted from the scales of the Tilapia fish
that are found abundantly in Asian waters.
This innovative development sees the
use of HAp from the scales of the Tilapia
fish as an alternative material to other
commercial calcium filters that contain
animal bone extracts.
Not only are the fish scales Halal (as they

are sourced from the sea), but also perform

better than Hap-based animal bones and
sea shells in terms of its solubility.
The HAp extracted from Tilapia scales
are more soluble, and triggers ionic Calcium
production. Calcium is an essential element
in the body, especially for those at risk
of Osteoporosis such as women and the
elderly. On top of that, fish scales do not
pose a risk of animal bone-based diseases.
Apart from producing calcium ions,
HAp-based filters can absorb heavy metals
in tap water and decrease water hardness.
