 Justify your topic by describing the problem that you have identified
The topic that I have chosen is Onewheel: The Self-Balancing Electric Skateboard.
Transportation have always been an issue at UTP. With the lack of parking spots
available, most students are unable to use their cars to and from classes. Lacking
alternative medium of transport such as an internal shuttle bus service, students of UTP
are forced to walk long distances under the blazing hot afternoon sun; which in turn could
adversely affect students health. Students living in the external campus are also facing
transportation issue due to inflexible bus schedule. Hence, I would like promote my
product, which is the Onewheel to provide an alternative transport for students.

Audience
How did you determine the knowledge/stand/viewpoint level of your audience?
I have asked some of my course mates on their opinion regarding transport condition of
UTP and how does it affect them. Possible method of solution were also asked. Besides
that, I also asked if they have heard of OneWheel by Future Motion before.

How did this information influence your presentation?

The information influenced me too explained my topic in a simple manner so that the
audience which are not familiar with the topic can grasp the information easily. On the
other hand, I will also include interesting facts inside the presentation so that the audience
which were already familiar with the topic would still find it interesting to listen too.

How do you plan to gain the audiences attention?

 I plan to get the audience attention through visual aids such as diagrams, animations and
videos. By the end of the presentation, a video which overviews the OneWheel will be
shown to the audience. The video would demonstrate the basic functions and the method
of operation of the device. I also would use proper voice projection as well as plenty of
audience interaction to grab the audience attention.

In relation to your topic, what are some ethical issues that you took into
consideration? Explain.
Among the ethical issue I took into consideration is safety and environmental impact of
transports. The auto-balancing feature of the OneWheel ensures maximum safety to the
user compared to other alternative transport where safety comes into question. On the
other hand, being a fully electrical means of transport, the OneWheel does not emit any
gases that could harm the environment.

What is the purpose and importance of choosing this topic?

The purpose and importance of choosing this topic is to provide a simple, effective
and environmental friendly alternative to combat the transportation problem that is
faced by UTP students daily.

How is the topic relevant to the audience?

Transportation have always been a major issue for students at UTP. Thus, OneWheel
provides an effective and economical alternative transport for the students of UTP.

What is your thesis statement?

Today, we would like to introduce all of you on the OneWheel, its features and
specifictions, technology used, advantages and also the future development of this
device.

List the main points that will support your thesis statement.

Features/Specifications of the Onewheel

Through the currently available iOS/Android mobile app, Onewheel comes with
interesting features such as selecting different riding modes, top speed limiting,
tracking ride activity through GPS, and sharing with friends, locking the
Onewheel, and more. (Doerksen, 2014)

Technology used

The Onewheel uses a number of cutting-edge technologies such as advanced

motion sensing through gyro and accelerometer, PID control system, integrated
LED lighting, ultra charger, Bluetooth, GPS and as well as the Android/ iOS
Technology for the mobile application. (Santos, 2014)

Advantages

The Onewheel provides various advantage to the user such as providing a safe
and environmental friendly alternative transport, self-balancing feature, and other
advantages compared to a regular skateboard.

Future Scope

More features will be added to the Onewheel to give users a more fulfilling
experience while using it.

How are you establishing your credibility?

I am a mechanical engineer who has been developing electromechanical consumer

products for over eight years. I also do hold a master in science, Msc in Mechanical
Engineering from UTP.

I will be using Monroes Motivated Sequence by five- step approach, attention, need,
satisfaction, visualization and action.

Most of the students are complaining about the lack of reliable transport within
the university.
With the lack of parking spots available, most students are unable to use their cars
to and from classes

Need or Problem
Students living in the external campus are also facing transportation issue due to
inflexible bus schedule. This occasionally causes them to miss precious lecture
hours.
With the lack of transport, students are forced to walk long distances under the
blazing hot afternoon sun; which in turn could adversely affect students health.
Students would also feel very exhausted even before lecture starts.
Hazy weather would also badly affect students health if they are forced to walk to
classes, as being outside for too long during hazy conditions can be very
dangerous.

How do you ensure that there is coherent transition from one point to the next main
point?

I will use transitional phrases such as Furthermore, Moreover, and On the other
hand in between my points so that the audience would be able to link between one
point and another. In order to connect the main point and the supporting points, I will
use phrases such as Thus, Hence, and this is because This ensures coherent
transition between main points as well as supporting points. I will also give the
audience a preview of the next subtopic before explaining it, so that the audience
would be prepared when the subtopic is being explained.

Describe how you are going to summarize each main point.

I would give a brief recap on the points explained to the audience before moving on
to the next point. This would allow the audience to have a better understanding of the
subtopics as well as to prevent the audience from getting confused by the points
explained.

Conclusion

 How do you plan to effectively conclude your persuasive presentation?

To conclude the presentation, I would briefly restate all my main points. More
pictures as well as a video on the Onewheel would also be presented to the audience
at the end of the presentation as a memory aid. Finally, I will end with a call for
action by encouraging the audience to pre-order the Onewheel now while the offer

I will use suitable visual aids such as photos and related videos on the Onewheel.
Besides that, I will also ask the audience to remember the last time they had a major
transportation issue to remind them of the discomfort it induces.

What is the weight of the Onewheel?

The Onewheel weighs around 25lbs (11kg)

Can the Onewheel go up hills?

Yes it can! According to the spec sheet, the Onewheel can climb hills with up to a
10% gradient. This means the Onewheel can go up most hills and ramps. The
Onewheel has plenty of pop to get up bigger hills, the issue is that the front of the
board is lowered when the rider is going forward, and on a steep enough gradient,
the tip of the board will actually scrape the ground. However, the developers are
currently working on increasing its climbing ability.
