Navigating
the Journey to
the Cloud
agility
made possible
Introduction
The business world has changed. The time for
speculating about how growing market forces,
such as an unpredictable economy, an evolving
technological landscape and increasing business
demands for innovative services, might affect
an IT organization has passed. Theyre real,
theyre here and theyve created a new status
quo that executives must address if they want
to be competitive in todays dynamic business
environment.
This is, of course, where cloud computing comes in.
Whether its a toe dip with Software as a Service
(SaaS) applications like Salesforce.com or a dive
into the deep end of private and hybrid clouds,
most businesses are already leveraging some form
of cloud solution. Yet, despite this adoption and
a common understanding of the strengths and
benefits of cloud models, some CIOs are reluctant
to fully commit to the cloud journey.

In the past, its all been about cutting costs. In the future,
there will still be cost pressure, but as business units realize
that IT can enable business initiatives (think mobile and
consumerization), there will be plenty of money available
for IT investment linked directly to business outcomes.

Overview
During the first stage of the CA Cloud Compass solution, organizations work with CAs
consulting team to select up to 25 of their applications for cloud suitability by
running them through a cloud decision model that characterizes them according to
four filters: Business/Financial, Technology, Operational and Regulatory/Compliance.

Companies should be comfortable with assessing the cloud suitability of the rest of
their applications by leveraging the prescriptive, repeatable approach they learned
during the Rationalize stage.

Stage one is powered by CA Clarity PPM On Demand for Cloud Compass, which
provides IT executives leading portfolio management capabilities in order to collect
all requests for new IT services and projects, make improved decisions regarding how
to invest and best optimize the IT portfolio based on costs, risks, business value and
compliance. It helps to deliver every initiative on time, on budget and with the right
quality and business value.

During the third stage of the CA Cloud Compass solution, CA works with
organizations to model the capacity requirements needed for a group of
applications to support the attainment of proper availability and performance in
prospective cloud environments. A subset of the 25 applications from the previous
stages will be assessed to provide an end-state capacity model.
Companies should have the capacity analysis capabilities and predictive analytics
they need to help optimize capacity, plan for new applications and cloud services

Compass
During the fourth stage of the CA Cloud Compass solution, CA works with
organizations to test composite application behavior in a simulated production
environment. CA LISA virtualizes the entire service, including applications selected
from the previous stages, and the entire infrastructure across network, storage and
heterogeneous platforms to test performance in the target cloud environment.

Stage four is powered by CA LISA, an agile platform for service virtualization that
helps organizations to rapidly capture and create virtual service environments on a
laptop, company network or in a cloud-based model, using service virtualization to
eliminate dependencies of unavailable or out-of-scope systems and data. It also
enables continuous validation activities against every layer of composite
applications, so teams can shift quality left in the software lifecycle and facilitate
faster, more reliable delivery.
