BLIZZARD

ASTRONOMI-CON TOURNAMENT SCENARIO

OVERVIEW
Both sides are attempting to sweep the area clean of opposing troops. Roving forces must be on the lookout to seek and
destroy any enemies they encounter. To make things even more difficult, the snow is getting worse much, much worse.

MISSION SPECIAL RULES

Reserves, Deep Strike, Table Quarters*, Blizzard*, Old Hands*, Below Freezing*.
*Refer to the accompanying Mission Special Rules sheet for more information.

SET-UP
1.

The players roll and determine the current Blizzard conditions.

2.

Players generate Psychic Powers as needed.

3.

Players roll-off and the winner selects a deployment zone as

depicted on the map. The other player will have the opposing
deployment zone. A players board edge is the long board edge
touching their own deployment zone.

4.

Players roll-off and the winner chooses whether to deploy first or

second. The player that deploys first takes the first turn.

5.

Starting with the player that deploys first, the players prepare any
Reserves, declare any units using the Infiltrate or Outflank special
rules, deploy any remaining units in their deployment zone and any
Fortifications on their half of the table.

6.

If both sides have Infiltrators, the players roll-off and the winner
decides who deploys first and the players alternate deploying these
units. Otherwise, the player with Infiltrators deploys them following
the Infiltrate Special Rule.

7.

8.

If both sides have Scouts, the players roll-off and the winner
decides who redeploys first and the players alternate redeploying
these units. Otherwise the player with Scouts redeploys them
following Scout Special Rule.

MISSION OBJECTIVES
Both sides are attempting to gain ground and fight off the enemy
all the while battling through the coming blizzard.
You score Victory Points for achieving the following objectives:
+2 VP

For each Table Quarter that you control.

+2 VP

If control more Table Quarters than your opponent at

the end of the game.

+1 VP

If you have denial units in every Table Quarter.

+1 VP

If your opponents Warlord is destroyed by the end of

the game.

+1 VP

If you have units in more Table Quarters than your

opponent at the end of the game.

+1 VP

If your highest point unit is not destroyed at the end of

the game.

+1 VP

If you have a denial unit in your opponents deployment

zone at the end of the game.

The player that deployed second may attempt to Seize the Initiative.

ENDING THE GAME

Games follow the Variable Game Length rules found in the main
rulebook. (p. 122)

MOPPING UP
If your opponent concedes or has no models on the table at the end of a
game turn, then any remaining turns may be played-out by the active
player in order to secure Mission Objectives until the game ends, with all
normal scenario rules in effect. Units your opponent has in Reserve
count as destroyed.
Players which have no models on the table will still score any Victory
Points they have earned over the course of the game.
Players which concede will score zero Victory Points for the game. Any
models the conceding player may still have on the table no longer affect
the game in any way and count as being destroyed.

BLIZZARD
ASTRONOMI-CON TOURNAMENT SCENARIO
MISSION SPECIAL RULES
*Table Quarters To capture a Table Quarter you must have a scoring unit in the Table Quarter, and your opponent cannot
have any denial units in the Table Quarter. If a unit is partially in two or more Table Quarters, it is in the Table Quarter with the
majority of the unit. If this cannot be determined, randomize which Table Quarter the unit occupies.
*Blizzard Snow is falling, and things are expected to get worse much worse. This is a Weather Effect which may be
cancelled via the Reliable Meteorologists Warlord Trait.
Before deployment, roll a D3 to determine the initial state of the weather. 1: Light Snow, 2: Snowing, 3: Heavy Snow.
The weather is variable. At the start of each game turn after the first, roll a D6.
On a roll of 1:
On a roll of 2-3:
On a roll of 4-5:
On a roll of 6:

Move the weather tracker counter- clockwise by one position.

The weather stays the same. Do not move the weather tracker.
Move the weather tracker clockwise one position.
Move the weather tracker clockwise, two states.

When a Flyer or Flying Monstrous Creature arrives from Reserve, its owner may choose to leave it in Reserve instead of
deploying it. Note that this is an exception to the normal rules for Reserves.
Each weather state has special rules as detailed below:
Clear No additional in-game effect.
Light Snow Vision is slightly obscured. Target units more than 18 away from the firing unit gain Stealth.
Snowing Vision is obscured. Use the Night Fighting rules, but units with the Night Vision special rule gain no benefit, and Searchlights do
not illuminate the target unit. Other abilities or wargear that would affect the Night Fighting rules do not function in The Blizzard.
Heavy Snow All the rules for Snowfall apply. In addition, all ground counts as difficult terrain for the remainder of the game. Zooming
Flyers which fail their Jink save with a roll of a 1 are wrecked. Resolve the Crash And Burn. Swooping Monstrous Creatures which fail their
Jink save with a roll of 1 are treated as having failed a Grounded Test.
Whiteout All the rules for Heavy Snow apply, but Line of Sight is limited to 24. Target units more than 6 away gain Stealth. Target units
more than 12 away gain Shrouded. Zooming flyers must test at the end of the movement phase to maintain control. Roll a D6. On a roll of
1 or 2, the Flyer is wrecked. Resolve the Crash And Burn. Swooping Monstrous Creatures must take a Grounded test at the end of the
movement phase to maintain control.
Howling Gale All the rules for Whiteout apply. In addition all units modify their WS, BS, and LD by -1. Flying Monstrous creatures must
change their flight mode to gliding during their turn. Zooming flyers must test at the end of the movement phase to maintain control. Roll a
D6. On a roll of 1, 2 or 3, the Flyer is wrecked. Resolve the Crash And Burn.

*Old Hands Unlike other missions, your Elites units are scoring units, not just your Troops units. In fact, even your vehicles
are scoring units, if they are Elites units and are not Immobilized!
*Below Freezing Due to the intense cold, Plasma weapons do not suffer from the Gets Hot special rule.
