ABM is among the largest facility management services company in the United States. It
was started in 1909 as a window washing business in San Francisco. Since then, the company has
acquired other businesses and invested strategically. Currently, ABM has nearly 100,000
employees and generates more than 4 billion dollars USA on the international market. The
company operates under cost minimization and standardized quality services. The company
envisions being a global leader in providing integrated facility solutions (Abm.com, 2015).
The companys relationship with the clients is based on the following core values: integrity,
collaboration, respect, innovation, and excellence. Employees have the responsibility to preserve
the organizational culture in the workplace. The companys culture incorporates mutual
accountability, learning, and teamwork. It observes high integrity, good corporate citizenship and
compliance to standards set. Value addition to their clients in services is a core of its service
provision. The organizational culture ensures consistency, reliability, and quality services to
clients anchored in enduring relationship with the customers (Abm.com, 2015).
I would improve the internal factors by adjusting the ownership of the shares of the
company. The employees would own a certain percentage of the company. Shareholder employees
are committed and own the activities of the company. In addition, employees that own a part of
the company are a motivational factor (Aquinas, 2006).
To minimize the effect of external factors, I would reduce competition by reducing the cost
of production, especially in the international market to remain competitive. Capital, intensive
technology will reduce production cost and increase the margins, making the firm more
competitive internationally. Capital intensive production technique will reduce labor especially in
countries where labor is expensive, or there are no skilled workers and the company has to import
labor (Aquinas, 2006).
