theScholarshipsAZwebsite,andtranslatinganyScholarshipsAZdocumentsincludinga
60pagestudentresourceguide.Ibelievethateducationshouldbearightnotaprivilege,
andwhenIseethatstudentsarebeingdeniedtherightofacquiringacollegeeducation,I
feeltheneedtotakeaction.Consequently,thisisthemajorreasonwhyIdecidedtobean

organizedsocial,culturalandcommunityserviceeventsforthecampus,andledgroup
discussionsaboutsocialjusticeasaprojectfacilitatorforanantidiscriminationclub.Prior
tothis,IwastheCommunityServiceChairpersonfortheStudentGovernment,andwasin
chargeoforganizingcommunityserviceactivitiesforthecampusincludingblooddrives
andamonthlycleanupoflocalneighborhoodstreets.

MynameisAbigailLopez.IamastudentatSoutheasternCollegecompletingan
associatesdegreeinscienceandplanningontransferringtoafouryearcollegeor
university.Myeducationalaspirationsconsistofacquiringabachelorsdegreeinany
biologicalorhealthsciencethatwouldassistmeinpursuingamedicalcareerasadoctor.
Ontheotherhand,mycareervisionistoonedaybeabletoprovideaffordablehealthcare
tomarginalizedcommunitiesintheUnitedStates.However,IamcertainthatifIdonot
completemycollegedegreeIcouldneverhavetheopportunitytoachievemycareergoals.
IdecidedthatIwillattainacareerasadoctorsincemypassionhasalwaysbeen
assistingothersandtryingtoimprovetheirqualityoflife.Therefore,Ithinkthatpursuing
suchacareerwillprovidemetheopportunitytohelpimprovethecommunity'shealth
qualityconditionsandlearnabouttheirmedicalneeds.Afterbecomingacertifieddoctor,I
wanttospecializeinoncology,thestudyofcancer,andaddmyknowledgetothecancer
researchfield.
Furthermore,IwanttocontributebacktoundeservedpopulationsintheU.S.that
struggleeverydaytosustainafamily,andwhodonothaveasmuchaccesstomedical
assistanceasotherprivilegedgroups.ThefirsthealthprojectIwanttoaccomplish
throughoutmycareerasadoctoristoestablishafreeclinicwhereaffordablemedical
assistancecanbeprovidedregardlessofthepatient'simmigrationstatus.Thediverse
healthserviceswouldincludefreedoctorconsultations,lowpriceorfreemedication,and
nutritionalclassestopreventthepresenceofdiabetesorheartdisease.Ialsointendto
provideaninterpreterforpatientsincasetheydonotspeakEnglishandestablisha
financialassistanceprogramtohelppatientswhoarenotabletopayforanytypeof

surgerythatneedstobeperformed.
ThesecondbiggestcareergoalthatIwanttoaccomplishistoestablishanonprofit
organizationwhereIcancreateinternshipsformedicalschoolstudentsaroundtheU.S.,
andallowthemtotraveltoisolatedcommunitiesaroundtheworldtoprovidefreemedical
services.Ialsowanttoprovidenutritioneducationtosupportthesemarginalized
communities,especiallyindigenousgroupsfromLatinAmericancountries.Thiswillhelp
contributetothephysicaldevelopmentofkidsandofferasolutiontomalnutrition.
IknowthatallofmygoalswillremaindreamsifIdonotcompletemymedical
degree.Therefore,Iamcommittedtoworkinghardinschoolandlookingforopportunities
thatcouldhelpmemakemygoalsareality.

As a citizen from a developing Commonwealth country, the scholarships will certainly enable me to
achieve my career aspiration, from where I would be able to share my knowledge gained to benefit
the future generations and help in the growth of my home country through scientific development. I
