OUTCOMES
By the end of this two-day programme you will have:
defined and clarified your job role and key expectations others
have of you within that role
clarified what the difference between leadership and
management will be for this group, and for GCFE
identified different leadership and management styles, and
reflected on how this might affect your delivery of your role
identified and committed to ways of effectively addressing
overload, poor performance, resilience, resourcefulness, and the
release of potential
worked out strategies to help you guarantee effective delivery of
your commitments and your role
reflected on the main components of an effective and successful
team
tested your thoughts about effective teamwork through a number
of team based activities
helped build the GCFE profile for The College Way
and for all the above
identified what it will take to close any perceived gaps, and make
a personal and group commitment to the main actions necessary
to close them

Key deliverables and non-negotiables: minimum expectations and
standards of behaviour and performance

11.15: Leadership and management
Vive la difference? Are they different? If so, in what way? Lets all be
clear about what we mean by each term
Changing roles, changing perspectives: when will you be acting in a
leadership role? When will you be managing? How do things differ if
viewed from a leadership or management perspective?
The clothes rail: here they all are a range of styles. Which to choose
and why? Suits you, sir?
Gap analysis: how do the above relate to what you and others do now?

1.45 Creating capacity
Five critical factors: overload, poor performance, resilience,
resourcefulness, and releasing potential. Why is each an issue? Whats
the problem? What can GCFE (led by ourselves) do about it?
Gap analysis: how do the above relate to what you and others do now?
Is there a gap?
Closing the gap: what actions are necessary, by whom, to close any gap?
How do we make this happen (action planning is not enough.)

3.30 Design to delivery: making it happen


Sofor everything weve discussed today whats stopping you? Whats
stopping us? What are the blocks, barriers and obstacles to closing all
gaps?
Sowhat can we do about dealing with these blocks? Do the blocks
defeat us, or do we defeat the blocks?

whats the evidence for this?) What if anything do we need to change or
do differently?
9.30 Team building and teamwork talk the talk
What makes a good team? Key requirements and characteristics.
Success measures?
Measuring up 1: how does this team (today) measure up against the
above? What are the gaps, if any, and how do we close them?
Measuring up 2: how do your teams, now and future, measure up
against the above? What are the gaps, if any, and how do we close
them?
11.00 Teambuilding and teamwork: Walk the walk
Principles into practice time. So much for the theory lets put it to the
test..
Sohow did you do? What did you learn? How will you use that
learning back in College?

2.00 New ways of working
The College Way: what do we want The College Way to be? Lets agree
a dozen Waypoints that capture and characterise The College Way
what we do, how we do it, how we behave. Reputational indicators
Gap analysis: how do the above relate to what you and others do now?
Is there a gap?
Closing the gap: what actions are necessary, by whom, to close any gap?
How do we make this happen (action planning is not enough.)
3.45 Endgame
Sowhere to from here? What difference will we all make? What
difference will each of us make? How can you be sure? How will we
(and others) know?
FPK: the final activity..
