Definition;
An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective, or another
adverb by making its meaning more specific.
An adverb is a word gives more or additional information to a verb,
an adjective, or another adverb

POSITION OF ADVERBS
You may place an adverb that modifies a verb in different positions in
relation to the verb.
For example;

1) Apparently he ate last. (it placed at the beginning)


2) He apparently ate last. (it placed at the middle)
3) He ate last, apparently.(it placed at the end)

If an adverb modifies an adjective or another adverb, however, you


must place it immediately before the word it modifies.
For example;
1) Yogurt is very good for you.
2) Only rarely do I eat dessert.

Hence, inversion is mainly used when the sentence begins with a
negative word.

scarcely, hardly, barely, rarely & seldom, the auxiliary verb comes
before the subject..+ when

Note: these time expressions are normally used with a perfect verb
form or modal auxiliary verbs. However, comparative form are also
common.
