10 Street Food Varieties To Try In India

India is quite famous for its street food. There are many vendors selling food in their portable stalls. Different
regions in India serve different kinds of food. Each state has a different speciality. There are a variety of tastes
and to tingle your taste buds, you should definitely try these varieties of street food:
1. Pani Puri: These are hollow balls of puffed bread. Eaten with tamarind water and filled with
chickpeas and mashed potatoes, pani puris are famous all over India. One can find a variety of
flavors with different kinds of water added to the mixture instead of tamarind water. It also
comes with sweet chutney, if you ask for the variant.

1. Masala Dosa: Predominantly a dish from the southern part of India, masala dosa stalls can be
found in a few parts of northern India as well . It is a pancake made of rice and black lentils.
These are served with coconut or groundnut chutney, sambhar (curry made of pulses) and fried
potatoes. It is commonly used for breakfast in south India. There are many variants like the
Rawa masala dosa (containing onions), set dosa, uttapam, etc.

1. Vada Pav: Vada pav is the most famous street food from Mumbai. This most loved dish is made with
fried potatoes (vada) which are served in a bun (pav) with green and red chutneys. Green chillies are
also provided with the vada pav. Similar variants include the dabeli, batata vada and misal pav.
2. Pav Bhaji: It consists of a bun which is served with a vegetable curry on the side. The vegetable consists
of tomato sauce and contains cabbages, cauliflower, peas and potatoes. A fast food dish from
Maharashtra, it is served throughout India.
3. Aloo tikki: Aloo tikki means a potato cutlet. It is made of boiled potatoes which are then fried with a
covering of flour. These are served in every chaat stall. These are mashed and served with mint sauce,
tamarind sauce, onions, chickpeas and curd.
4. Akki Roti: In the tech city of India, Bangalore, the special street food is the akki roti. It is a flatbread
made from rice flour. The dough may also contain coriander, onion or sesame seeds. It is eaten along
with chutney
5. Momos (and Thupka): Steamed dumplings made with flour and filled with meat, beef or vegetables,
momos are famous dishes from northern India. Originating in Nepal, these dishes are served in Jammu,
Himachal Pradesh and other parts of India as well. Thupka is the variant where these dumplings are
served in soup.
6. Litti Chokha: Littis are coal baked balls made of wheat flour, grinded gram or sattu (mixture of whole
grains). These are served with a chokha, made from tomato, potato and brinjal. Litti chokha is served
with a bowl of desi ghee (clarified butter).
7. Butter Chicken: Butter chicken is made from chicken which is marinated in a spice mix overnight. It is
grilled and a sauce is poured over it which is consists butter , tomato puree and fresh cream. It is eaten
with Indian breads like naan, and tandoori roti.
8. Chicken Manchurian: An Indian chinese dish, it is made from chicken cubes that are deep fried and
covered in a gravy made of onion, chillies and soy sauce. It is served in Mumbai, as well as some cities
in the northern region of India.
Apart from these tasty treats, one can also find poha-jalebi, chhole bhature, kachori, parathas, idly sambhar,
sambhar vada, poori bhaji and kulfis in India. Depending on the different regions, one can find different
varieties of food in India and the taste changes drastically from north to south.
