TIMEart
Time Images Time Images is a concept based on the perception that we live in
an accumulation of non-recurring moments and the opinion that all moments are
equally valuable.
Yasemin Yilmaz creates her art work within a period of time, in order to capture that
special period of time and location. Important elements of this method are incidents
taken from the daily newspaper, which influence the work of art. Thus each fragment
is part of a collage, which is becoming a piece of art by the reflections of the artist.
Afterwards the art is not changed and left as it is, whether the pieces are satisfying
or not. This procedure can be viewed as a real time-art.
Artists The participants are all contemporary artists with international achievements.

Project description Globalization Connections Time is an intercontinental cultural art project that was initiated by the participating artist Yasemin Yilmaz. The project evolved from her personal ongoing art project Time
Images. On February 29th 2008, 12 artists from 6 continents worked on an OneDayWork.
The complete work symbolizes one global day, produced in an age in which the element of time demonstrates an
extremely fast-moving moment.
There live approximately 6.5 billion people distributed on 6 continents, (excluding Antarctica and with America
divided into North and South) The 12 artists of this project symbolize, in a minimized manner, the world. Here
they are represented with respectively 2 artists per continent.
The project uses art as an instrument to provide viewers different insights into the themes of Globalization,
Connections, and Time. This exhibit shows how through the use of the Internet artists can each make individual works of art and still be linked by a theme thus coming together in a common global purpose. It also shows
the extent to which notions of significance and insignificance can play out in one day in the life of each person.
The realisation of this project covers the time from 29.02.2008 to 29.02.2012, and is divided into three project
phases.
Project phase 1:
Project phase 2:
Project phase 3:
February 29th the lost and regained Day 29th February only comes into existence every four years as a
leap day. It being an accumulation of surplus hours of each year, this date was the perfect day for the realisation
of this global work.
... The globality as well as the abolishment of distance were essential to this project. With the chronological
parallelism of the different time zones the aspect of time was intrinsic. The period of this regained day almost
doubled to 43 hours... (Junge Kunst)
The artists pored over the newspaper of their city or country, content filtering subjectively for relevant news of
the day. As representatives of the global society in a virtually frozen snap shot of 24 hours, they reflect with their
work zeitgeist and connections of the globalised international community. The artists were free in their choice of
materials, techniques and creation.
The sole restrictions were; (1) the time span of 24 hours; (2) reading a high-circulation newspaper; (3) not leaving their familiar surroundings and country; and (4) integrating the date from the newspaper into their work.
Their experiences have been documented and the newspapers involved kept. Please visit the link for an overview
and further detail: http://www.time-images.org/page4.php The artists documented their experiences in pictures
and writing. These will be exhibited as well as the used newspapers which are an important part of the
complete work.
Doc Ross (New Zealand)-Sarah Robson (Australia)-Rathin Kanji (India)-Talal Moualla (UAE)-Stefan Balog
(Romania)-Yasemin Yilmaz (Germany)-Cecile Heystek (Namibia)-Mountassir Chemao (Morocco)-Perla Bajder
(Argentina)-Raquel Schwartz (Bolivia)-Paul-Campbell (USA)-Patricia Goodrich (USA)
For more information about their individual achievements and works please find the website addresses on the
bottom of the page.
Exhibition concept/tour The concept for the exhibition in the second project phase aims to go beyond merely
presenting the final art work. Visitors are invited to learn about the individual experiences of the artists, not
only through observation but also in an interactive way, to gain a better understanding of the artists and their
surrounding.
By displaying video interviews of the artists; cultural differences and similarities in the perception of time in
connection to todays global world will be emphasised.
In some countries, e.g. Romania and Morocco, there will be symposia with the participating artists, other international artists and local artists, in addition to the exhibition.

Cultural sciences thesis The project will be supported by the Cultural Sciences department of the University
of Hagen in Germany with a scientific study, a thesis The interaction of regional and global art production exampled by the project Globalization-Connections-Time.
Documentary film The second phase of the project will be accompanied by a film crew from Germany with a
documentary film with regard of the origin of the existing work and the upcoming expositions.
The footage will reconstruct and review the 29th February by means of interviews with the artists and related
visual material. The artists will be portrayed individually at the place of their creation and particularly brought
into context with the theme Globalization-Connections-Time. In this context it is particularly interesting under
what circumstances the works were created. (For example some of the artists had to drive for hours or import
their daily newspaper, while others had access to their newspaper everywhere.)
These interviews are an important part of the exhibition, to build a bridge between the artist, their work and
the onlooker.
At the end of the exhibition tour the complete documentary, which will also visualise each exhibition, will be
part of the closing event on 29.02.12.
