BENEDICTS R C CHURCH
Well, two weeks have almost gone by since I left Atherstone for the
Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. I had the surgery on
Monday 29th June (for 5 hours apparently). I then spent a couple of
days in the Intensive Care Unit. They were keeping an eye on me
because I had rather low blood pressure and diculty with breathing.
I went back to the Ward then and spent a few days being filled with
drugs to get the pain under some control.
I can relax into the final days of Wimbledon and also face the
delightful prospect of the season of Test Cricket and winning the
Ashes! Perhaps many of you are getting ready for holidays. I do hope
that they will be relaxing and refreshing.
God bless
Fr Paul.

PRAYER GROUP - The prayer will take the basic format of Evening
Prayer of the Church with the opportunity to extend the various elements
of the Prayer (Praise and adoration, listening to Scripture readings and
Intercession for our various needs). To give you a sense of how long the
meeting might last - last week we prayed together for about half an hour!
Called to be Holy
We all have some share in the priesthood of Christ by
virtue of our common baptism. This invokes in us, a
sense of belonging yes, belonging to the body of
Christ. This is sometimes referred to as the priesthood
of the faithful. St. Peter tells us that: through Baptism
and the anointing of the Holy Spirit are reborn and
consecrated as a spiritual temple and a holy
priesthood. By living the Christian life, they offer up
spiritual sacrifices and proclaim the prodigious deeds
of Him who called them from darkness into his own
wonderful light (1 Peter 2, 4-10). This is the sense in
which we are invited to be Holy as our heavenly father
is Holy (1 Peter 1: 15).
The prophet Amos was sent by God to the land of
Judah. In the same way, we are called and sent to our
families, our communities, our friend, bringing alive
once again the message of salvation. Like the
apostles, the Lord is asking us to be his hands of
compassion, the voice of mercy and forgiveness,
healing and love. But then, we must be transformed
ourselves before we can bring it to others. Today, we
ask the Lord transform us into true copies of Himself in
order to bring the good news to others. Amen.
