defined by Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD).
B. Students from schools identified as having low progression
rates to higher education by the Schools for Higher Education
Programme (SHEP).

G. Students who have participated in Heriot-Watts Brightest
Watts Programme in the year prior to entry.
Students who are awarded an Access Bursary receive a total of
1,000 for each year of their undergraduate studies. The student is
paid 1,000 in their first year of studies, (this includes those
entering directly to Years 2 or 3), and 1,000 in each year as an
enrolled student on an Honours degree. If the student is taking part
in a paid work placement, the bursary will not normally be paid for
that year. Students on an intercampus transfer will continue to
receive the bursary. There are approximately 50 Access Bursaries
available each year. Fulfilment of the eligibility criteria does not
guarantee that a bursary can be awarded, we try and identify the
applicants who are in greatest need.
Please complete the following information and e-mail this
form to accessbursaries@hw.ac.uk no later than 5pm on Friday
21st August 2015.

6). Please say why you have applied for an Access Bursary. Please
focus specifically on: financial need; personal or family
circumstances which may make it difficult for you take up a place
and/or complete your studies at the University; evidence of
commitment and motivation. Please note that this is a
competitive bursary and what you provide in this section will
be used in the selection process.
I have applied for an Access Bursary, as it will greatly aid my family
and myself financially as I go on and start my year 2 at Heriot-Watt
University. My fathers workplace will soon be closing down, so he is
currently looking for another job that he can potentially take on.
However, this also means that he is at risk of being unemployed for
an indeterminate amount of time.
I am also currently looking for a part-time job, which requires
sensible hours that would be able to help me financially but have
yet to find one.
I am hoping for your kind consideration of my application,
Ian Aquino
