COURSEDESCRIPTION
Fiber-optic communication is a method of transmitting information from one place to another by sending pulses of light through an
optical fiber. The light forms an electromagnetic carrier wave that is modulated to carry information. First developed in the 1970s, fiberoptic communication systems have revolutionized the telecommunications industry and have played a major role in the advent of the
Information Age. Because of its advantages over electrical transmission, optical fibers have largely replaced copper wire
communications in core networks in the developed world.
Optical fibre splicer is responsible for ensuring efficient splicing of the optical fibre cables and supports in optical fibre installation and in
carrying out fibre testing using OTDR and power meter.
This unit is about carrying out efficient optical splicing and tests its effectiveness through OTDR and power meter tests.
This unit is about supporting the Optical technician in installation and commissioning of Optical fiber cables as per route plan. It involves
coordinating activities like trenching and laying of cables and carrying out splicing of cables.
COURSEOBJECTIVES
The core objective of this course is to be familiar with the technical testing and maintainance of optical fiber cables and wires. This
course will help.
1. Program prepares the student as a Fiber Optics Technician and Optical Fibre Splicer.
2. Provide basic of Optical fiber instruments and their applications.
3. Provide a platform for the student to deal with various applications in biomedical, defence and communication domain.
4. Provide an environment for the student for research works also some opportunity to hands on with real time field works.

Demonstrate evidence of original thought, strong analytical and critical abilities as well as a thorough grasp
of the topic from background reading and analysis; should demonstrate every good organizational theoretical
and presentational skills.
Demonstrate evidence of critical and analytical thinking but not necessarily original in their thinking; show
adequate grasp of the topic from background reading and analysis; should demonstrate strong
organizational, , theoritical and presentational skills.
Demonstrate evidence of a reasonable grasp of their subject but most of their information is derivative, with
Rather little evidence of critical thinking; should demonstrate fair organizational, rhetorical and
presentational skills.
Demonstrate evidence of being able to assemble the bare minimum of information, poorly digested and not
very well organized in presentation. There is no evidence of critical thinking
Demonstrate evidence of poor knowledge and understanding of the subject, a lack of coherence and
organization, and answers are largely irrelevant. Work fails to reach degree level.
