4.1 Definition of a model student and Head Girl as a model student

In Miss Ls opinion, a model student should have a good manner and good attitude. A
model student should not only based on the academic only, it is very important to
have the characteristics of a good manner and good attitude. Good attitude means the
way you treat people, that will make the others to respect you. While good manner,
showing respect no matter to the younger or elders, it should be expressed in our daily
life. Having a good results can also define you as a model student because you need to
hard work to obtain the good results.
Besides, Miss L considers as a model student because she has confidence. She said
that confidence can define one person as a leader. They are confidence to talk, to share
their ideas and opinions to the others. A model student is a role model to the students.
She explained that if a model student did not have any confidence, why this student
can become a model student? She indicated that a model student should have the
qualities of confidence. Bravery also is one of the qualities of a model student. A
model student should be brave to take any challenges. They should brave to complete
the task that are given by the teacher. They should not give up and must adhere to the
completion to the task that are given by the teacher.
4.1.1 Head Girl as A Model Student
According to Miss L, the reasons why she wanted to become a model student is she
wanted to try something new. She said that she became a prefect not because of the
curricular marks but she wanted to do her best as a prefect. After being a head girl,
she took her responsibility to carry out all her job. Becoming a prefect can also train
her leadership skills. She wanted to tell the other students what is good and what is
wrong. According to Miss L, becoming a prefect can train her how to be
independence because you learn everything by yourself. Among the prefects, they
learn to help to each other. When you are facing difficulties, they will help you to
overcome this task. These are the reasons why she wanted to become a prefect.
In her period as a prefect, she convinced that the difficulties thing occured when
becoming a prefect is to face the teacher. My teacher will say,tell me,you already
wasted your time for a prefect, Miss L said. Most of the teachers will worry about
the position of prefect will disturb their studies. So, we will see how Miss L does so
that she does not neglect her studies while perform well as the head girl. Her idea is
time management. She will plan her own timetable to balance her studies and
curricular activities. According to NIRAVS (2012), timetable is said to be a second
clock which indicates all the activities. Planning a timetable is very compulsory in a
students life because timetable help us to be more efficient and effective. A schedule
is a written record of considered decisions made on the allocation of 'time to tasks.' It
will serve as an aide-memoire for carrying out necessary activities, listing 'when and
what' needs to be done especially it is important in our daily life. For examples, time
to study, outside door activities, relaxation, entertainment and so on. Bear in mind that

procrastination is the thief of the time. So, we must plan a timetable to manage our
time.
Besides, she will attend all the extra classes that have been arranged. In order to
perform well in studies, she said she needed to sacrifice her energy and time because
she did not want the teacher think that she only come to school for a head girl only,
she took her responsibility as a learner too.
4.2 Model Students Studying Skills
Not only perform well as a head girl, she did good performance in her studies too. She
pointed that her studying techniques are doing revision, practising, asking friends and
group study. She practises doing a lot of exercises. Group study is a good way for her
because if you do not know the contents, maybe your friend will know. The group
members will discuss together to solve it. This is the same concept with the asking
friends. She said that, for her, she will learn easily and remember easily through
asking. If you just read and you do not know the the concept, it is useless. So, these
are the studying techniques of a model student.
But, each student has different learning preferences and styles. We cannot make sure
that Miss Ls studying techniques is suitable for every student. According to the
Education Corner (2005-2013), the learning style has included the auditory, visual,
logical, social, solitary or tactile. It is not uncommon for people to discover certain
learning styles that work best for them or styles that are preferable in certain
situations. It is also possible for individuals to develop learning styles never utilized in
the past or further hone preferred style. Anyhow, this is just suggestion and this
research just become a reference to the reader.
For the subject that she are not good at, Miss L will do a lot of exercises to improve
the subject that she are weaken. She will also improve her weaken subject by paying
more attention in class. She said if someone do not know, just ask the teacher and
never shy to ask because this is Form Sixs life. She also said that someone must
sacrifice more on studies and separate their time wisely.
Besides, according to Miss L, the way she learns MUET is from reading. She will
read more English books and watch English movies. The movie that Miss L interested
is regarding challenging, for example, the movies that have fighting but also related to
religions. She said that we are not only learn English from movie, we can learn moral
values also.
4.3 Model Students Support System
If you have a support system, these people no matter are your family, your friends or
your teachers will push you to success. They will give you advice, guide you the right
ways throughout your life. They are always support you and they cheer for in times

when you are successful. Having a support system will permanently gives you an
advantage. Miss L convinced that family is her support system to make her success.
She said that parents support her from many things, from financial, morals and also
advise. Parents support is really important to her due to they always give her the best
and support her no matter she is good or bad. They support her through giving her the
confidence and calming her to face the world. She emphasized that parents is really
important in her life.
Furthermore, Miss Ls friends play an important roles for bringing her to success to
become a model student. She mentioned that her friends will keep support her even
when she fall down and the time she failed. They will keep advise her and encourage
her to try one more time until she build up her confidence and believe she can do it.
Apart from that, Miss L said that the role of teacher is also indispensable in our life.
Teachers will give us the support and they will advise us from many things not only in
studies only. Teachers will share their experiences and knowledge to us and we cannot
get anything except from teachers. She stressed that teachers also being a important
part to make us to become a model student. Exactly what she said, family, friends and
teachers really assume this important role to make us successful.
4.4 Analysis Of Qualities Which Make Miss L Become A Model Student
Actually, we cannot precise that what is a model student. The objectives we do this
research is to make us better understand what is a model student look like and what
are the qualities of a model student should have. In this subtopic, we are going to
analyse what are the qualities of Miss L which can make her to become a model
student or the other statement, are the qualities of Miss L able to make her to become
a model student?
When asked for the unique qualities which make Miss L become a model student, we
had found that she has the characteristics of sense of humour. For instance, when we
asked her about what made her want to become a prefect, she said because my perfect
is prefect. She is using humour to build rapport and create a relaxed while we are
conducting the interview.
In addition to this, Miss L is motivated. Motivation is vital to make us success. Her
motivation to become a prefect is she wants to try something new. In her secondary
school, she never become a prefect but as a librarian only. Being a prefect can make
her learn many things such as she can learn to be more responsible. She said that she
will take her responsibility as a prefect and even being a head girl. Besides, not only
as a head girl, she took her responsibility as a learner in class. So, Miss L took her
consideration in both studies and curricular activities.
Apart from this, Miss L is a leader. She is a head girl in SMK Sacred Heart. The
position of head girl has built her leadership skills because a head girl need to guide
people. She need to tell the other students what is good and what is wrong. She also

has the characteristics of independence. She learned everything by herself for being a
prefect. She is trustworthy too. She said that when a teacher gives you a task, they are
putting faith into you that you are trustworthy enough to handle this task.
Furthermore, she learn to cooperative with the other prefects. If she cannot complete
this task or the others were facing the difficulties, they will help each other to
overcome this task.
We can say that Miss L is a problem solver too. The most difficult thing when she
become a head girl is to face the teacher. Most teachers will worry about a head girl
will disturb her studies while carrying out her job. So, her solution is time
management. She will plan her own timetable and sacrifice her energy and time so
that she would not neglect her studies while perform well as the head girl.
Next, Miss L is a hard-worker. A model student is not necessarily is the smartest
student. But, she need to hard work to obtain her success. Learning to work hard early
on will pay off. In order to improve the subject that are not good at, Miss L will do a
lot of exercises and pay more attention in class. Besides, she will keep asking when
she meets the questions she does not know. For what Miss L said, if we do not know,
just ask teacher, that is Form Sixs life. You just ask and when you do not know, never
shy to ask. So, we can conclude that Miss L is a inquisitive student too.
From the interview, we found that Miss L is humble. When asking her what are her
study techniques that make her excel in exam, she answered that she is not an
excellent student and said she is just middle part. From this conversation, we can
understand Miss L has the characteristics of humble.
In asking her who are her support system, her answer is family, friends and teachers.
Our support system push us to success, offer advice and guide and direct us
throughout our life. So, having a support system will permanently give us the
advantage.
Miss Ls dream is to become a lawyer. She is enthusiastic in becoming a lawyer. She
is motivated enough in order to achieve her dream. She will study hard and struggle
and sacrifice many things to achieve her goal and her aim for her life. She will try her
best for everything in order to achieve her dream.
Lastly, she is open and talkative too. She willingly shares her ideas and her
experiences to us so that we can get benefits from her.
In conclusion, we can define Miss L as a model student. She is a head girl. She not
only is a head girl, she has a lot advantages on her own. A model student is not only
perform well in studies or in curricular activities or both of two, there has a lot of
elements that make someone become a model student. Our interviewee in this

research entitled Head Girl As A Model Student, we can observe from her, she is
really has a lot virtues we can learn from her. She is accord with this topic.
