network termination units (NTUs) deliver Fast Ethernet and mid-band Ethernet traffic over multiple bonded E1 or T1 circuits. These devices bridge the bandwidth gap between E1/T1 and E3/T3, employing MLPPP bonding to create a scalable, virtual large pipe from individual E1/T1 circuits. The RICi-4E1 and RICi-4T1 devices support four unframed E1 or framed T1 circuits, while the RICi-8E1 and RICi-8T1 each support up to eight unframed E1 or framed T1 circuits. All devices feature four 10/100BaseT user ports or two optional 100BaseFX ports. All four devices are MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum)-9 certified for Ethernet Private Line services, supporting applications such as transparent interLAN connectivity, direct Internet access and Ethernet Private Lines, as well as IP DSLAM and WiMAX base station backhaul.
Ethernet link and service OAM
Ethernet OAM is one of the cornerstones in the transformation of Ethernet into a carrier-class technology. The RICi-8E1, RICi-8T1, RICi-4E1, and RICi-4T1 support service OAM based on IEEE 802.3ag and ITU Y.1731, providing end-toend fault monitoring and performance measurements. In addition, they support OAM diagnostics per 802.3-2005 (formerly 802.3ah) master and slave mode. Ethernet OAM enables Ethernet service providers to proactively monitor their service and thus minimize their operational expenses. End-to-end OAM performance measurements provide the service provider with an essential tool to monitor SLAs and guarantee that the customer receives the SLA that has been contracted. In cases of error conditions on the TDM port, a fault propagation feature disconnects the link on the Fast Ethernet port, and enables routers on both ends of the link to reroute the traffic. Ethernet QoS and VLAN capabilities The devices can be used in a point-to-point application or in a hub-and-spoke topology, operating opposite the Egate-100 gateway. The devices support VLAN priority (802.1p), DSCP and per port priority, enabling users to define different levels of quality of service (QoS) according to application requirements. The built-in Fast Ethernet bridge can work in VLAN-aware or VLAN-unaware mode. The VLAN tagging, stacking and stripping option enables transparent delivery of user traffic, keeping all
user VLAN settings intact. In addition, the
management traffic may be tagged with a different VLAN, fully separating it from the user traffic. Configurable maximum transmission unit (MTU) enables users to control delay versus throughput parameters. SNMP management and diagnostics The RICi-4E1, RICi-4T1, RICi-8E1, and RICi-8T1 feature flexible management capabilities, including local management via an ASCII terminal (RS-232). In addition, remote management can be performed either inband or out-of-band, using the network or user ports, while maintaining separation between management and user traffic via the use of VLANs. Advanced FCAPS (Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance, Security) and diagnostic tools are provided by RADview-EMS, RADs carrier-class element management system, via a Web browser. All four devices also support a variety of configuration access channels, including Telnet, SNMP, Web server, and TFTP. Incorporated security features include Secure Shell (SSH), Web-based Secure Socket Layer (SSL), SNMPv3, and RADIUS. The RICi-4E1, RICi-4T1, RICi-8E1, and RICi-8T1 support Syslog, to enable system logs to be forwarded to the network according to predefined criteria. Their diagnostic capabilities include ping test and route trace, as well as bit error rate test (BERT) and remote and local loopbacks over the E1/T1 lines.
