Introduction
Josef Ransley and Hadyn Ingram (2004) use the concept of the modern motor vehicle to explain
the trend in the hospitality industry. The modern motor vehicles are designed so as to meet every
type of preference, taste and pricing level. Ransely & Ingram (2004), claim that the hospitality
industry is headed in the same evolutionary process. With the globalization rate gathering
momentum, the hospitalization industry is meeting of challenge of encountering different culture
with diverse values on similar issues (Ransely and Ingram 10).
Ransely and Ingram (2004) argue that globalization has pushed the hospitality industry to find
ways o f adapting and applying greater flexibility to existing and new products. This, they claim,
will entail the development of new concepts with intrinsic ways of changing service, content and
image in an economical way. They claim that the service methods are susceptible to quick
changes being based on personnel skills. There is a need for increased investment in people and
new methods have to be used in the campaign to retain people (Ransely and Ingram 10).
Creating flexibility in the physical property seems to pose a challenge to the hospitality industry
however two solutions are given on this. Since most of the construction systems are becoming
systemized and manufacture based, there is need for altering the established process of
management thinking. It is true that value increase in properties when they are located where
they are most needed. From this point of view today's offices are likely to be tomorrow's hotel
and vice versa. This simply means adapting a building to maximize inherent value (Ransely and
Ingram 11). They however write that in all these adaptation the process must satisfy the
following equation; (selling price x volume) cost = profit.

Task 1: discuss the structure and operation of the

UK economy (size, features, philosophy,
regulation, taxation, security, efficiency,
direction)(AC1.1; M1)
As we know that UK is highly open economy. Openness of the global economy can increase the
size of trade market available to domestic manufacturers and encourage the transfer of
technology. The process of globalization highly impact British economy. Here we see few
examples of impact of globalization on UK economy.
The British has been a favoured place for foreign direct investment. There are many factors that
can explain this statement like improvement in supply performance of the economy, good system
of tax and improved record in industrial dealings.

A main aim of taxation is to redistribute wealth. The redistribution effect strives to transfer
income between the rich and the poor via taxation. Many people believe that taxes should
impose a small cost on society and that the burden of taxes should be distributed fairly
(Mankiw and Taylor, 2010). In the UK, taxation is above the median level for industrialized
economies where the tax burden measures 36%. In 2007-08 the total amount of taxes levied in
the UK for every person was 8925. Most of this is attributable to income tax which is the largest
source of revenue for the Government. However, not all income is taxable; every person is
entitled to personal allowance which is essentially tax free income

Task 2: Analyse current government economic

policy and its effect on business and services
industries (focusing on a major UK hotel group )
(AC1.2; M2)
he UK economy is one of the most globalised economics in the world. The UK economy is now
clearly experiencing one of the worst economic problems in recent history. They are facing
problems like unemployment, large budget deficit and related problems. Though now a days
fiscal policy is not used so much in the modern economic system, but, this theory can help to
prevent recession or inflation rate. Now a day In UK economy recession and inflation both are
major economic problem. By using fiscal policy- UK government can increase tax rates and cut
their spending to face inflation problem. The advantage is that it will help to reduce budget
deficit. This will help to reduce aggregate demand and therefore reduce inflation pressure. But in
recession problem the government can increase AD, increasing government spending and cutting
taxes. Lower taxes increase disposable income. This helps increase economic growth and
reduces unemployment. In my opinion in a country like UK, which has a large budget deficit,
Government can use fiscal policy for increasing tax rate and reduce public spending. Because,it
will reduce the inflation and at the same time it can improve the budget deficit.

Main Objectives of Government Economic Policy:

Sustained economic growth
Stable prices (low down inflation)

occupational distribution in relation to the
provision of business and services operations
(consider who are the users of the Hospitality

The industry consists of wide category of fields in the service industry including restaurants,
lodging, event planning, transportation, theme parks and some additional fields in tourism sector.
It is a billion dollar industry depending on availability of disposal income and time. Single
hospitality units like restaurant or even amusement park comprise of multiple groups like direct
operations, maintenance, marketing, finance and HR. Human Resource is highly valuable in the
hospitality sector sue to the type of industries comprising it. For as long as any of us in
