Savings Time and weather dependent, opening ceremonies will be held on the Drill Pad at the Airman Leadership School beginning
at 1840. Seniors and Cadets will be in formation for openingplease be on time.
***HEADS UP*** PT NIGHT LOCATION CHANGE- Thanks to 11th Wing Services, they are now permitting Andrews Squadron to
utilize the West Fitness Center-Tactical Fitness Area as our location for PT. WE WILL NO LONGER ASSEMBLE AT THE CHURCH
FOR PT NIGHTS IN THE WINTER FROM THIS POINT FORWARD.
PT/PFTs will be conducted from 1845-1945 and we must vacate the Tactical Fitness Area by 2000. The meeting schedule will
continue at our spaces in the classroom.
Location of the West Fitness Center: Bldg 1444 Concord Ave (Behind Airman Leadership School and the Andrews Office Park).
ACTIVITIES NOTES:
CAP MEMORIAL SERVICE AT AF MEMORIAL (19 April)- The ceremony will last about one hour and we will read the names of
the CAP members (seniors and cadets) from all across the US (about 150 names) (we read the name and someone behind the
audience answers "absent, sir" for each name). We will also have the wing commander lay a wreath and have a flag folding
ceremony. All Andrews members are encouraged to attend and honor the CAP members who have passed on in 2013.
MIDDLE EAST REGION SAR COLLEGE 2-4 MAY- The Middle East Region Search And Rescue College registration is now open.
Please go to WWW.MERSAR.COM for more info and to register. Cost this year will be $65 for Barracks lodging and $95 for BOQ
private room lodging. MER SAR 2014 will be held at Fort Pickett the weekend of May 2nd through 4th.
More Detailed info will be sent to each registrant after registering.
ACS ES & GROUND TEAM TRAINING/HAWK MOUNTAIN, PA (25-27 April)- The squadron ESO, 1st Lt Betts (SSgt, USAF), as a
part of the overall ES training continuum, will hold the next ES training event at the CAP Hawk Mountain Training Complex 25-27
April. This will be classified as an overnight and High Risk Activity. RSVPs for the training will be first come, first served. To
confirm your RSVP, you must have your current 101 card, CAPF-31 (signed by the Squadron Commander) and CAPF-161
(Emergency Contact Form).
Please RSVP directly with Lt Betts, betts.j@natcapwg.cap.gov. RSVPs will close out on 18 April or as soon as all seats in the van
are filled.
CADET PROGRAMS NOTES:
NEW DEPUTY COMMANDER FOR CADETS- Again, a hearty congratulations and Welcome Aboard to 1st Lt Mustico (YN1(AW)
USN) as the DCC and newest member of the ACS Command Staff! He has already hit the ground running in his turnover with Capt
Sanzone and is ready to lead a growing and dynamic Cadet Program at Andrews Squadron.
PHYSICAL READINESS- In order to promote in the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program, in addition to the academic and drill testing
requirements for each achievement, you must maintain an acceptable level of physical fitness in order to pass the Cadet Physical
Fitness Test required for each achievement and qualification for promotion. If you fail the PT test standard, you cannot promote,
which will affect your progression in the Cadet Program. Additionally, failure to promote at least twice per calendar year is
considered unsatisfactory cadet progression and could subject you to administrative separation from the CAP cadet program.
But most importantly, you should stay physically fit for your overall health and appearance! Physically fit cadets are much more
alert, healthy and present a sharper appearance in the wearing of the Air Force uniform. If you need an assist with physical
readiness, please contact your Senior Cadet Staff and the DCC.
SENIOR PROGRAMS NOTES:
NEW PDO- 1st Lt Zachary Steele (SrA, USAFR) is the units new Professional Development Officer, taking over from 1st Lt Mustico.
He has also hit the ground running enacting an internal tracking chart of all SM progress through the SM Professional Development
Program. If you have any issues or questions dealing with Level I, specialty training track progress and beyond, please do not
hesitate to speak with Lt Steele. He will also start looking for mentors to assist our Senior Members complete Level I and beyond.
SM PROMOTIONS- Are you missing an item that is keeping you from promoting to the next higher grade? Check your eServices
record and see the PDO! There are some seniors that have been in grade for longer than the required/desired time, and if you are
in zone for promotion, we can help you become promotion complete to help you achieve the next higher grade.
TBD- SENIOR MEMBER GREAT START- Tentatively scheduled for 21 June. All new Senior Members and those who have
completed the online training for Level I but still need the facilitator portions should plan on attending this training. Capt Pritchard
and Lt Steele are the POCs for the training.
SENIOR MEMBER BILLETS- Seniors, have you found a way to plug in and contribute towards the growing operations of
Andrews Squadron? If not, there are still opportunities available and a lot of work that needs to be done to keep our unit moving
upward and onward. Please see the PDO and DCC to check on availability of a desired billet. The only squadron requirement is
that once you have chosen a billet that you will enroll and progress in the related specialty track for a rating (technician, senior or
master).
VOLUNTEER NOTES:
The unit is STILL looking volunteers in the following capacities:
A Senior Member to serve as 1st Lt Betts relief as Emergency Services Officer when he executes his AF PCS this
September. The interested volunteer must be a minimum of GES Qualified, GTM and Technician rated in the ES
specialty track. Interested SMs please see Maj Acevedo, Ops-O, for details.
Senior Member and Cadets to form an IT/Media Team. Our former C/Cdr, C/1st Lt Harris, has done an excellent job
getting our squadron website operational; however, he cannot do it all alone. Maj Acevedo has set up our Facebook Fan
Page and 1st Lt Steele our internal FB page and Instagram account. Any cadet or senior member that desires to join the
IT/Media team to contribute, please see OPS and C/Lt Harris for details.
SAFETY NOTE:
ASK YOURSELF- IS YOUR SAFETY QUAL CURRENT IN E-SERVICES?!?
FROM YOUR SAFETY- O: Reminder- If your safety qual is not current in eServices, under
instruction/regulations you will NOT be permitted to participate in any CAP activities until you are
current. If you miss a meeting, you can take a safety module here:
http://www.capmembers.com/safety/safety_education/
OUR GOAL IS 100% UNIT COMPLETION OF SAFETY CURRENCY FOR FEBRUARY AND
ALL OF 2014!!!!!!!

PERSONAL AWARDS
The outlook for our squadron continues to look better and better each day as our ranks continue to grow. This past month alone we
gained FOUR new cadets. At the time I am writing my commentary for the POM, there is the possibility of 2 more prospective
cadets, a new Senior Member and a former Senior Member who wishes to rejoin Civil Air Patrol and Andrews Squadron. We are
continuing to grow in quality and quantity WITHOUT A SINGLE RECRUITING DRIVE. I truly believe the reputation of our unit is
good; and people will join an organization that has quality, structure, purpose and a place for them to fit in. Please welcome aboard
our new and prospective members and make them feel at home at Andrews Squadron.
Your Command Staff continues to work hard each and every month to plan a robust schedule for the following month. April will
continue this trend with a lot of opportunities for training and other activities to plug in. Id like to take a moment to give a BRAVO
ZULU to 1st Lt Betts who kicked off a robust ES training continuum in March with our first official ES and UDF training event on 22
March. His efforts will help us as a unit continue to become more operational and lead towards qualification of many of our
members in Emergency Services and Urban Direction Finding. THANK YOU for going above and beyond with the training
evolutions and a JOB WELL DONE!!!
I would also like to thank our mission partners of the 11th Wing who have been extremely supportive of Andrews Squadron and Civil
Air Patrol. Their enthusiastic support of our mission has allowed us to freely operate on a major Air Force installation. Mr. Mark
Crockett, who will be departing Joint Base Andrews this month for his new assignment in Japan has been a key player in supporting
our activities from our regular squadron meetings to special training evolutions such as the Cadet Great Start Weekend where we
were able to use the East Fitness Center and Freedom Dining Hall. THANK YOU and BRAVO ZULU Mr. Crockett!
I look forward to another great month in leading this fine unit with PRIDE, PROFESSIONALISM and PERSONAL
RESPONSIBILITY!
