COGS 
COGS (Client for Online Gaming Service) is the application you need to install and use to be able to play games on 
Wateen’s online dedicated gaming servers and do much more. 

Hardware Requirements 
COGS has following hardware requirements: 

1. CPU: Pentium 4  (Dual Core or higher recommended) 
2. RAM: 512 MB (1 GB or higher recommended) 

Kindly notice you may need a better machine with dedicated graphics processing devices to be able to play games 
supported by COGS. 

Software Requirements 
COGS setup is published on the web and you need an internet connection and browser to install the application. It is 
highly recommended to use Internet Explorer to install COGS. 

COGS runs on Windows XP/Vista and has following software requirements: 

1. Internet Explorer 
2. Windows Installer 3.1 v2 
3. .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 

Other than the Internet Explorer, these requirements are automatically downloaded and installed at the time of COGS 
installation, if not found on your system.

Logging In 
To be able to log into the system: 

1. You must own an active WOGS (Wateen Online Gaming Service) subscription 
2. You must have COGS installed on your machine 
3. You must be connected to the internet 

After the application is installed, you can launch it either from the Start menu or from the Desktop shortcut. Whenever 
COGS is launched, it will always first ask you for your subscription account’s credentials. 

Give your subscription account’s credentials and press the ‘Log In’ button to log into the system. 

The login progress and result messages are displayed in the information bar below the login area. 

Troubleshooting 
Following error messages are displayed in case of failed login attempts: 

“No active user found matching the supplied credentials” 

This message is displayed when either there is no subscription account matching the supplied credentials or the 
subscription account associated with the credentials is no longer active. If your subscription has not expired yet then you 
need to check whether you are giving the correct credentials. If your subscription has expired then you need to renew 
your subscription to be able to log into the system again. 

“Could not communicate with server properly. Kindly check your internet connection.” 

This message is displayed when the application was not able to connect to the server due to internet connectivity issues. 
COGS always uses Internet Explorer’s connection settings. Check your internet connection properties of Internet 
Explorer and confirm that you are able to browse internet using it. 

Other Error Messages 

Restart the application and retry logging in. Contact the service support if the problem recurs.

Playing a Game 
To be able to play a game: 

1. You must be logged into COGS 
2. You must have the game installed on your system 

You must have the server version of the game installed to be able to successfully connect to the server and play. 

Supported Games 
Games supported by the system are displayed in a bar at the top of the application. 

You can select a game by clicking on its image. Whenever you select a game, it moves to the center of the bar. The 
currently selected game is always displayed at the center of the bar. 

Dedicated Servers 
When you select a game, the ‘Servers’ section is automatically selected and the dedicated servers corresponding to that 
game are displayed under it.

You can switch to other sections and come back to the ‘Servers’ section using the menu bar at the left of the application 
anytime to view the dedicated servers corresponding to the currently selected game. 

Joining a Server 
To join a server you just need to double‐click on a server’s row inside the ‘Servers’ section. The application itself 
launches the game and starts connecting you to the server. 

Playing a Game for the First Time 
When you try to join a server of a game you’re playing for the first time using COGS, you’ll be asked the game’s 
executable file’s location. (If you haven’t already set it from the ‘Settings’ section) 

Browse to the folder where the game is installed, select the executable file and then press the ‘Open’ button. 

Troubleshooting 
When you join a dedicated server, the application first authorizes you on it. If the authorization is successful, the game is 
then launched and you’re connected to the server. If the authorization fails, a message box with error description is 
displayed. 

Following error messages are displayed in cases of failed authorization: 

“No active user found matching the supplied credentials” 

This message is displayed if your subscription expired during your current COGS session. You need to renew your 
subscription to be able to play a game again. 

“Could not communicate with server properly. Kindly check your internet connection.”

This message is displayed when the application was not able to connect to the server due to internet connectivity issues. 
COGS always uses Internet Explorer’s connection settings. Check your internet connection properties of Internet 
Explorer and confirm that you are able to browse internet using it. 

Other Error Messages 

Restart the application and retry joining the same server. Contact the service support if the problem recurs. 

Game gets disconnected from Server 

Various reasons include the following in decreasing order of probability: 

1. Internet connection gets disconnected/slow 
Check your internet connection settings in Internet Explorer. Contact your ISP. 
2. COGS is closed 
You must not close COGS while playing a game. It is needed running to keep you authorized on the 
dedicated gaming server. 
3. Subscription expires while playing 
You need to get your subscription renewed. 
4. Single subscription account is used from multiple locations 
One subscriber can successfully play a game from one location at a time. You cannot distribute your 
credentials to let others play at the same time you’re playing. 
5. Multiple subscribers are sharing the same internet connection 
If two or more users (each having a subscription of his own) are sharing the same internet connection 
then they must use a different gaming port from each other. See the ‘Gaming Port’ section under the 
‘Settings’ section of this manual to know how to change it.

Chatting 
To be able to chat with other WOGGERS: 

1. You must be logged into COGS 
2. You must decide and set your Gaming Nick 

Setting Gaming Nick 
You can set your gaming nick from the chat bar at the right of the application. 

You cannot change your gaming nick once it’s set. This nick will also be automatically set inside the games whenever you 
join a server using COGS. (Few games may not support this feature) 

Once you set your gaming nick, your chat account is also created and your chat messenger starts signing in. Afterwards, 
whenever you log into COGS, your chat messenger will automatically sign in. 

Adding Friends 
You can add chat friends by pressing the ‘Add Friends’ button at the bottom of the chat bar. 

A list of users you can add as friends will be displayed with a checkbox next to each one.

Tick the checkbox against a user you want to add as a friend and then press the ‘Invite’ button. 

Invitations 
You get an invitation whenever someone adds you as a chat friend. Whenever you have one or more chat invitations, a 
button labeled ‘Invitations’ is displayed next to the ‘Add Friends’ button at the bottom of the chat bar. 

Press the ‘Invitations’ button to see your list of invitations which is much like the list of users you can add as friends.

Here, you can: 

1. Accept an invitation by ticking the checkbox against it and pressing the ‘Accept’ button 
2. Reject an invitation by ticking the checkbox against it and pressing the ‘Reject’ button 

There is a limit on the number of chat friends you can have. When that limit is reached, you can only accept invitations 
after removing one (or more if needed) of your existing friends. 

Removing Friends 
1. Right‐click the friend from the chat bar at the right of the application 
 

 
 
2. Select ‘Remove contact’ 
3. Press the ‘Yes’ button to confirm removal 

Messaging 
You can open the messaging window (‘Chat’ section) by left‐clicking on a friend from the chat bar at the right of the 
application.

Enter your message in the bottom writeable text field and press the ‘Send’ button next to it. 

Whenever you click on a friend, the ‘Chat’ section is automatically selected and chat messages from current session are 
shown. You can switch to other sections and come back to the ‘Chat’ section using the menu bar at the left of the 
application anytime to see the messaging window of the currently selected friend.

Tournaments 
You can see the list of oncoming tournaments by selecting the ‘Tournaments’ section from the menu bar at the left of 
the application. 

Registering in a Tournament 
1. Select a tournament row to view its details at the bottom of the section 

2. Press the ‘Register’ button 
3. Press the ‘Yes’ button to confirm registration

Settings 
COGS Settings can be accessed by selecting the ‘Settings’ section from the menu bar at the left of the application. 

Change Password 
1. Select the ‘Settings’ section from the left menu bar 
2. Select the ‘Security’ section from the top menu bar of the ‘Settings’ section 

3. Provide your current password and new password 
4. Press the ‘Save’ button 

Games’ Executables 
1. Select the ‘Settings’ section from the left menu bar 
2. Select the ‘Games’ section from the top menu bar of the ‘Settings’ section

3. Double‐click the game’s row you want to change the executable file path of 

4. Browse to your intended executable file’s folder, select the file and then click ‘Open’ 
5. Press the ‘Save’ button 

Gaming Port 
1. Select ‘Settings’ section from the left menu bar 
2. Select the ‘Network’ section from the top menu bar of the ‘Settings’ section

3. Provide any random port number between 1828 and 65535 (which you believe is not already being used by any 
other software on your machine) 
4. Press the ‘Save’ button 

Clan’s Name 
1. Select the ‘Settings’ section from the left menu bar 
2. Select the ‘General’ section from the top menu bar of the ‘Settings’ section 

3. Provide your clan’s name 
4. Press the ‘Save’ button

 If you have both your gaming nick and clan’s name set then a nick of format [Clan]Nick will always be automatically 
set inside the game whenever you join a server. (Few games may not support this feature)
