Francesca lives with her boyfriend Alberto and daughter
Chiara (8) in a two-storey apartment in a small town on
the outskirts of Venice. When I was a little girl I made
my own dolls houses, now my home is my real-size
dolls house where I can try out my ideas. I like being

What happens when you introduce an architect-cum-stylist with
a passion for textiles to a creative dreamer who likes to play
with recycled materials?

I made curtains from my mothers old tea towels to cover our open
shelving. I hate to look at clutter! It has been great to have another
brain to work with on more textile projects. You really helped me to
view things in a different way.
sa: I wanted to show you that it isnt about changing your home but
adding to it. If youre clever then what you add can work in all of the

rooms of your home, not just one. Layering textures, pattern and fabric
quickly makes a space feel warmer and more inviting. I remember your
face lighting up when I told you about the fabric feature wall.
Francesca: Yes! I was so excited about that and so surprised at how
easy it was to make. I think its my favourite new addition. Im not sure
I wouldve had the courage to try it on my own.

At IKEA we say children are the most important people in the world. As
a parent this statement rings true to me on a personal and professional
level. We want our products to be good for children and when it comes
to the supply chain, we want to promote ethical and sustainable
working practices. This view is promoted by the new Childrens Rights
and Business Principles, a comprehensive framework developed by IKEA
partners Save the Children, UNICEF and the UN Global Compact that
will help businesses better understand our impact on childrens
wellbeing. Spending time in the factories we work with, I see the
positive impact changes we make have on lives. We do this not just
because we believe its right to do it but also because it is good business
sense. It gives us greater control over our supply chain, putting us in a
position to ensure we get safe, quality products that are produced with
respect for people. Our customers want to be able to buy our products
with a clear conscience. The areas outlined in the Principles are not new
for us but the Principles will help strengthen our efforts and show us
good examples to learn from always in the childs best interest.
