SWIMMING POOL VENTILATION

HOME SWIMMING POOLS AND WELLNESS CLUBS

Swimming pool ventilation

Comfort use of home swimming pools, wellness facilities and small public swimming pools requires their perfect ventilation and heating.
To reduce humidity it is suitable to cover the water surface using foil to suppress condensation therefrom and thus reduce the energy
demand. In swimming pools and wellness clubs there is also the issue of vapours from chemical substances used for water treatment
such as chlorine and ozone etc. Installing dehumidifiers does not deal with this chemical load but only reduces air humidity without
providing at least air circulation with enough reach to all nooks and corners of the pool where mould areas subsequently form as a result
of condensation. Controlled ventilation takes the chemical load away along with high humidity. The supply of fresh, warm and dry air to the
glazed surfaces and all corners of pools reduces or even eliminates humidity condensation. Appliances with heat recovery are used
for energy-optimum operation to reduce the cost of ventilation by up to 90 % compared with direct ventilation while providing controlled
ventilation performance, re-heating supply air and maintaining slightly negative pressure in the swimming pool hall, which also protects
the construction part of the building. Thanks to the economical EC fans and the sophisticated, top-of-the-range digital control system with
automatic functions the DUPLEX RDH4 meets all the above requirements with minimum energy demand. In addition, all the main
components and the casing of the DUPLEX RDH4 are completely made of special chemical stainless steel AISI 316, highly resistant to all
common chemical compounds used to treat swimming pool water. However, it may not be fully resistant to high concentration of chemical
compounds in salt-water swimming pools; if this is the case, please get information regarding your specific application.
Designing and sizing principles
Typical small swimming pools have their requirements for air change rates, i.e. the supply of fresh air and the extraction of exhaust air,
determined and verified according to seasons 11 m3/hour per each square metre in winter, 16 m3 / hour per square metre
in the transitional period and 32 m3/hour per square metre in summer. Sizing is optimized for the transitional period, while in winter
the period of ventilation is then reduced and in summer the controlled ventilation system must be supported by opening glazed surfaces.
Due to possible condensation on cold surfaces air needs to be transported to glazed areas and ducts designed from durable materials.
Air-conditioning systems for swimming pools should always be designed to be separate from other areas in the building. The all-stainless
air-conditioning DUPLEX RDH4 unit designed for the demanding conditions of swimming pools ensures air change rates with heat recovery
at intensities according to immediate requirements. To cover heat loss in the area in idle mode it is useful to include e.g. an underfloor
heating system. The complete coverage of heat loss and a fast increase in air temperature from idle to operating mode are provided
by a DUPLEX RDH4 connected to a heat source. The RD4 control system sensitively responds to changes and allows the user to control
and switch between pre-set modes. The built-in web-server also allows remote control via the Internet, possibly also through smart phone
applications. To design a system for a specific swimming pool of wellness club it is recommended using also ATREA's design software,
freely available on www.atrea.cz, which among other things includes calculation for the required ventilation performance according
to the swimming pool type.

The DUPLEX RDH4 is fitted with an S5 series modern heat recovery exchanger heat
recovery unit . Inside it, heat transfer takes place through its partition plates in winter
warm exhaust air pre-heats cold air supplied from outside. Heat recovery efficiency thanks
to its special design and the subsequent high heat recovery efficiency the exchanger
achieves a very economical consumed electric power (to run the fans) to heat recovery ratio.
The fan input / heat recovery ratio during swimming pool ventilation reaches an energy
efficiency rate of 1745, i.e. for each 1 W of electric power used to run the DUPLEX RDH4
in ventilation mod up to 45 W of energy is recovered from the swimming pool's exhaust air.
Effective ration 1 : 45. The material used to make heat recovery exchangers is also an
important point when they are used in swimming pools the entire heat recovery exchanger
is made of plastic whose properties make it resistant even to a highly aggressive
environment caused by exhaust air condensation.

BUILT-IN CONTROL SYSTEM RD4 WITH INTERNET

T ext.

T int.
Heat source

As standard the DUPLEX RDH4 includes a built-in RD4 modern control system. On top of standard
functions, it also has optional modes for swimming pools an idle mode (usually 24 C) and
an operational mode (usually 2830 C). Switching between these two modes can be done via a weekly
time schedule or based on immediate requirements; this can be also done remotely through Internet
connection. During this switching the control system automatically set the circulation output and
controls heat sources such as mixing valves, gas boiler and a heat pump etc. based on readings from
a room temperature sensor. When the required indoor temperature value is reached, it switches
to the circulation output for uniform ventilation in the area and maintains supply air temperature.
If relative humidity exceeds the value set by the hygrostat, it automatically increases the volume
of ventilation air. The user can utilize swimming pool modes with pre-set operating temperature
and the automatic start of ventilation demand by a room hygrostat. A selection of other operating mode
is additionally available circulation, circulation & ventilation, equal pressure ventilation including
temperature settings, also in weekly programming mode. For more information on control options
and documentation for electric terminal connections it is recommended using ATREA's design software
with detailed outputs for subsequent electrical, health & engineering and central heating professions.

POWER CONNECTIONS

E.g. IZT, HP,

switchboards etc.

The DUPLEX RDH4 is fitted with a hot-water air heated optimized for low temperature gradients to
make it suitable also for e.g. heat pump systems. The RD4 control system makes it possible to provide
power supply 230 V for the circulation pump, control the mixing valve via a 010 V output, close a
24 V DC valve or send a command to the power supply to run via a switch contact. During 010 V
control the control voltage depends on the outlet air temperature to the swimming pool area. The
system is not controlled based on outside temperature; operating performance rates are determined
solely by demand from swimming pool or wellness club areas.
Optional three- to four-way
manifolds for supply
air temperature control
