UNITED WAY CUTS SENIOR CENTER FUNDING

Because contributions to the United Way of Delaware have continued to decline, allocations to
agencies were reduced. Wilmington Senior Center will receive $26,000 less in annual funding
beginning July 1, 2015. The Center staff will work very hard to continue providing all services to
members & clients, but we have been forced to reduce hours and salaries for the following staff
members:
Patricia Anderson-Rice, Director of Supportive Services will be off on Thursday afternoons
Gretchen Broadwater, Activities Coordinator will now work 9:00-2:00 on Tuesday,
Wednesday & Thursday (she will continue to be off on Monday & work 9:0012:00 on Friday)
Sue Getman, Executive Director reduced hours will vary weekly as schedule permits
James Hicklin, Maintenance Supervisor will be off on Friday
Mattie McBee, Bookkeeper 8:00-1:00 daily
Beth Ray, Executive Secretary will be off on Friday
We will evaluate programs, schedules & budget in 90 days & make adjustments if necessary. In
the meantime, if you have questions or concerns, please see Sue Getman. We appreciate your
understanding & support.

DID YOU KNOW?

The dog days of
summer refer to the
hottest, most sultry
days of July & August in
the Northern
Hemisphere. The term
originates from the
ancient belief that
Sirius, also called the
Dog Star & the brightest
star in the constellation
in Canis Major, is closest
to the sun from mid-July
to mid-August. Ancients
believed that its heat
added to the heat of the
sun & caused the not
weather. Those in the
Southern Hemisphere
experience dog days in
January & February.

TIPS TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM CYBER CRIME

Always be careful when clicking attachments or links in email. Check the url, look for
spelling mistakes or low resolution images which can indicate a fraudulent site.
Think you can spot a phony website? Take the OPENDNS phishing quiz
(http://www.opendns.com/phishing-quiz).
Shopping or banking? Use only your own device and on a network you can trust - using
the free wifi in a public location can expose your information.
Never leave your devices unattended and lock your computer when away from your desk.
Practice good password management. Use a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
Dont use the same password for multiple sites.
Back up your data regularly.
Keep anti-virus software up-to-date.
Be wary of phone calls or emails asking for personal information. Say no. You can always
call the company directly to verify credentials.
Monitor your accounts for suspicious activity. Question anything that looks unfamiliar.
