Maya Devi (Monica f.) is dancer and teacher of Indian and Bollywood dances at the international
level. She travels, and performs professionally in India since 1996. She is recognized as an Active
Member of CID UNESCO and as first and only teacher of GIPSY DANCES of RAJASTHAN and
KALBELIYA in Italy.

Maya dances since the age of 8 studying various forms of dance: Argentine

Tango, Flamenco with international grandmasters, gypsy dances, SUFI dance, Asian and Japanese
dances and also the Chau dance of Orissa. She is the only Italian students of SUVA DEVI, one of the
greatest teachers of Kalbeliya and of Gulabo Sapera, the greatest dancer of Rajasthani dances in the
world.
From 1996 she travels in India following a deep spiritual journey following the Living goddess
tradition" and learns Indian and sacred dances during long stays: thefolk dances of Rajasthanwith
the Guru Vandana,Kalbeliya danceat the villages of gipsy enchanters of snakes and the teacherSua
Devi, danceOdissiwith Rekha Tandon in Bhubaneswar, danceKhatakwith Kamal Guru Maharaj and
Sufi dance from Indian Masters.
Maya has founded MUDRARTE in 2009 to spread the teachings of Yoga and Indian dance in Italy.
She is also Creative Director and teacher of the Maharani Dance Company and Bollywood Dance
Academy. Since 2010 she is dedicated to spreading the nomadic GYPSY Dances ROUTE through
dance festivals, such as festival NOMAD DANCE FEST dedicated to all gipsy dances and nomads
and the MAYUR INDIAN DANCE FEST .
Maya holds classes and workshops in Milan and the whole of Italy and performed in famous theaters
and abroad in international dance festivals with the Maharani Dance Company. Every year she
organizes INDIA DANCE TOUR a journey dedicated to dance for people who want to learn the

Rajasthani Gypsy Dances!

These original dances of Rajasthan are considered to
be the roots of some oriental dances and
Flamenco. From the Thar desert in Rajasthan the
Indo-European migration of Gypsies over 500 years
ago and has influenced the culture, the traditions, the
dances of Europe and North Africa.

Kalbelia

dance is one of the most sensual gipsy

dance forms of Rajasthan.

This fascinating dance is native of Kalbelia dance
community "the snake charmers", living in the Thar
desert in India . Maya Devi was repeatedly invited to
represent the Indian dances at the International
Congress of CID UNESCO!!

Bollywood Dance & Academy!

The Bollywood dance is a contemporary fusion of a
long artistic tradition that crosses the entire Indian
history.His spectacular charm is widely spread far
beyond the borders of India thanks to the success of
major film productions, in which dancing plays a
central role.The tradition of sacred dance joins in this
discipline to Middle Eastern influences particularly
present in the North of the country and the
celebration of folk dances..
BOLLYWOOD MAHARANI company performs
periodically during shows, festivals, private functions,
birthdays. The Company organizes workshops and events
in Italy and abroad.
From 2011 Maya Devi conducts the first triennial
Bollywood Dance Training School certified FID
(Italian Federation of Dance) in Italy.

Mystical Sufi Dance!

The rotary movement invokes the same movement of the universe, in which everything
revolves: atoms, the Earth, the planets around the Sun, the thought itself.Sufi dance
represents the spiritual ascent of man towards God, in which the personality dissolves
and returns to Earth. Movement and rhythm, as the dances or the recitation of
repetitive formulas (mantra) facilitate an altered state of consciousness. The mind
calms down and at the same time you go out from space and time.

Sacred Dance Devadasi !

The sacred dance of DEVADASI (sacred dancers of Hindu temples) becomes a sort of
prayer in movement, depicting the game gods and their interaction with the human
world, expressing at the same time the nine basic feelings of the soul. The intent of
its language is symbolic one of moving in different moods making the viewer as
participant as the interpreter. Music, poetry, color and rhythm whose message is
directed according to senses, are especially directed by the inner soul of the dancer.
