Chapter 1 Cabinets
Components of the SG7000 such as frame, back administration module (BAM), disk
array cabinet, local area network (LAN) Switch, and keyboard & video & mouse
switcher (KVMS) are installed in the cabinet. This chapter describes the structure of the
SG7000 cabinet as well as the structure and performance of the internal components.

1.1 Overview of Cabinet

The SG7000 adopts the N68-22 standard cabinet. This section describes the
appearance, structure, technical specifications and features of the cabinet.

1.1.1 Appearance of Cabinet

The dimensions of the N68-22 cabinet are 2,200 mm (H) x 600 mm (W) x 800 mm (D).
The usable internal space height is 46 U (1 U = 44.45 mm). The weight of an empty
cabinet is about 130 kg. Figure 1-1 shows the appearance of the cabinet.

Chapter 1 Cabinets

Wire bushings are installed on the lateral column of the cabinet. A wire bar and a
cabling rack are installed in the rear of the cabinet. This is to facilitate the wiring and
bundling of the internal cables.
The N68-22 cabinet can be installed on the cement floor or in a room with an antistatic
floor. The N800 series support is used when the cabinet is installed in a room with an
antistatic floor.

1.1.3 N800 Supports and Fittings

I. Introduction to Supports
The support is used to raise the cabinet and thus facilitate cabling in the equipment
room. It is made of welded steel sheets. The cabinet, slide rails and support are
secured together by bolts to secure and support the cabinet.
There are four types of N800 supports, three of which are height-adjustable and the last
one has a fixed height.
Figure 1-3 shows the appearance of the N800 series supports.

Note:
Floor height refers to the distance between the upper plane of the antistatic floor and
the cement floor.

Types I, II and III can have their heights adjusted in a stepless manner within their
height ranges. The adjustment is implemented through relative movement of the upper
and lower supports.
Type IV has a fixed height, and is mainly used in situations of extreme antistatic floor
heights. The minimum floor height applicable for this type of support is 100 mm.

II. Introduction to Bracket and Slide Assembly

The bracket is used to support the floor around the cabinet, while the slide to connect
the cabinet with the support. Figure 1-4 shows the appearance of the slide.

III. Number of Supports and Number of Bracket and Slide Assemblies

The number of supports can be calculated using the formula of 2 x N. That is, each
cabinet independently uses one set of supports (2 supports), and a row of cabinets (N
cabinets) uses 2 x N supports.
Each cabinet uses one set of bracket and slide assembly, which is delivered with the
supports. Each set of bracket and slide assembly comprises two slides, two lateral
brackets, two bracket fixing pieces, one front bracket, and one rear bracket.

Each cabinet needs two bracket fixing pieces, one front bracket, and one rear bracket.
Each row of cabinet also uses two lateral brackets. If only one cabinet forms a row, two
lateral brackets are also needed.

1.1.4 Technical Specifications and Features of Cabinet

Table 1-2 lists the specifications and features of the N68-22 cabinet.
Table 1-2 Technical specifications and features of the N68-22 cabinet
Design
standards

The cabinet complies with International Electrotechnical Commission

(IEC) 297 standards and adopts the modular design to facilitate
capacity expansion and maintenance.

Outer
dimensions

2,200 mm (H) x 600 mm (W) x 800 mm (D)

Capacity

The usable internal space height is 46 U. Up to four frames can be

inserted.

Weight

The weight of an empty cabinet is about 130 kg.

Installation
modes

The cabinet can be directly installed on the cement floor or in the

equipment room with an antistatic floor. The N800 series supports
and slides are used when the cabinet is installed in the equipment
room with an antistatic floor.

Wiring
modes

There are cable-through holes at both the top and the bottom of the
cabinet. Both the upward wiring mode and the downward wiring mode
are supported.
The front door and rear door adopt the structure of double door in
folio. The side panels adopt a suspension structure. This saves
installation space and facilitates operations to the cabinet.

Structural
features

The lateral columns have mount angles to install and secure internal
components.
A wire bushing is installed on the lateral column of the cabinet, and a
wire bar and a cabling trough are installed in the rear of the cabinet.
This is to facilitate the wiring and bundling of the internal cables.
The lateral column in the rear of the cabinet has a grounding bar,
which is used for the grounding of internal components and the
interconnection of inter-cabinet protection grounding cables.

Heat
dissipation

The front door, rear door, and bottom plate have small and densely
distributed ventilation holes. The cabinet has an air deflector. The
power distribution frame and frame have fans. This forms the
ventilation mode in which air comes in from the front, goes out from
the rear, and flows from the bottom to the top. This mode endows the
cabinet with excellent heat dissipation performance.

Electromagnetic compatibility is considered in design; as a result, all

the interfaces have excellent electromagnetic shielding performance.
Protection

The ventilation holes on the front door, rear door, and bottom plate
are lined with an air filter to make the cabinet dustproof.
The cable-through hole has a ratproof cover plate to cover the
opening left in the hole after wiring. This feature prevents dust and
little animals from entering the cabinet.

Materials

The internal fireproof materials of the cabinet assembled through

screws by quality electrolytic zinc-coated steel sheets and cold-rolled
steel sheets comply with the Underwriter Laboratories (UL)
standards.

Color

The outer surface of the cabinet is Huawei purple gray and Huawei
silver gray. The rack is in Huawei purple gray.

1.2 Types of Cabinets

According to the difference in component configuration, there are two types of cabinets:
basic cabinet and extended cabinet. In addition to the power distribution box and
frames, the basic cabinet also accommodates components like the BAM, disk array
cabinet, LAN Switch, and KVMS. By contrast, the extended cabinet only
accommodates the power distribution box and frames.

1.2.1 Basic Cabinet

The basic cabinet must be configured. Its internal components include the BAM, disk
array cabinet (optional), KVMS, LAN Switch and frames. The basic cabinet provides
such functions as basic service processing, external interfaces (FE, clock, E1, and so
on) of the SG7000, and communication between the foreground and background.
The fixed configuration of the basic cabinet includes one BAM, two LAN Switches, one
KVMS, one or two frames, and one direct current (DC) power distribution box. You can
also configure another BAM to form the dual-system mode. In this case, a disk array
cabinet is also needed. The weight of a basic cabinet with full configuration is about 400
kg.
Figure 1-5 shows the full configuration of a dual-system basic cabinet.

1.3 Components of Cabinet

The internal components of the cabinet include the BAM, disk array cabinet, LAN
Switch, cabling frame, KVMS, and DC power distribution box. This section describes
the specifications and features of these components.

1.3.1 BAM

Note:
The manufacturer, model, and hardware configuration of the BAM server may differ
from what are described here. In that case, the delivery prevails. The description of this
document is for reference only.

The BAM is a server of the operation and maintenance (O&M) system of the SG7000. It
acts as a bridge between the SG7000 and workstations. The BAM forwards the O&M
commands of workstations (local/remote) to the host and redirects the responses of the
host to related O&M workstations. In addition, it stores and forwards alarm information
and service statistics data. You can install one BAM or two as you like.
The SG7000 adopts IBM X343 server as the BAM server, which is fixedly configured in
the basic cabinet.

1.3.6 DC Power Distribution Box

I. Function
The DC power distribution box is installed at the top of the N68-22 cabinet. Two
channels of 48 VDC power are introduced to the power distribution box. After such
processing as internal lightning protection and overcurrent protection, six groups of 48
VDC power are exported to provide working power to various components of the
cabinet.
Meanwhile, a monitoring unit configured in the power distribution box detects the
voltage of the two channels of 48 VDC power, output power status after distribution,
the temperature and humidity of the cabinet, and the status of the air breaker and
lightning protection unit. Through an RS485 Com port, the monitoring unit
communicates with the system board and reports detection parameters. The running
status of the power distribution box is displayed through the panel indicator. The
monitoring unit generates audio and visual alarms when the DC power distribution box
fails.

II. Appearance and Structure

The power distribution box complies with the IEC297 standards. Its dimensions are 2 U
(88.9 mm) (H) x 19 inch (482.6 mm) (W) x 476.2 mm (D).

1.3.7 Air Deflector

I. Function
Usually, the air deflector is above or under the service frame. It changes the direction of
air slowly and separates the heat dissipation channel. This forms the ventilation mode
in which air comes in from the front, goes out from the rear. It also decreases the loss
generated by the compression of air. Figure 1-22 shows the heat dissipation channel
inside the cabinet after the air deflector is installed.

Chapter 2 Frames

Chapter 2 Frames
2.1 Function of Frame
The frame uses the backplane to assemble various boards inserted to the frame to
form an independent working unit. The SG7000 adopts the open standards telecom
architecture platform (OSTA) of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to
as Huawei) as the hardware platform. Four types of backplane buses such as the
resource bus, Ethernet bus, H.110 bus and serial port bus are all available on this
platform.

2.1.1 Appearance of Frame

The OSTA platform is 19-inch wide and 9-U high. The design of the structure complies
with the IEC297 standard. The backplane is in the middle of the frame. The boards are
inserted oppositely, and all the cables are led out from the back of the frame. There are
21 pairs of slots in the frame. A plug-in fan box, which is used for heat dissipation, is
installed at the bottom of the frame. Figure 2-1 shows the appearance of the frame.

interface (ALUI) board are fixed configuration of the frame, and they are installed at
fixed slots. The signaling broadband processing unit (SBPU) board (a service board)
and the signaling E1 peripheral interface unit (SEPU) board (the back interface board
of a service board)are installed in the remaining 12 pairs of slots. The slots are
numbered 020 from left to right.

2.2 Fan Box

Each frame has a fan box in the lower part for heat dissipation. The fan box is made up
of plastic and sheet-metal. Each fan box contains six fans, which are 119 mm wide and
32 thick.

2.2.1 Function
The system supports the fan hot plugging function, temperature detection and speed
adjusting. You can control the speed of fans if the heat dissipation and running situation
are normal.
You can know the running situation of the components inside the fan box by observing
the indicator. You can also remotely maintain the fan box through the NM terminal.

Figure 2-4 Board allocation of master frame configuration

III. Description
1)

In master frame configuration, the HSYS, HBIU, HSCU, ALUI, CKII and power
board are mandatory boards. The HSYS is fixedly configured in slots 6 and 8 in the
front, the HBIU in slots 6 and 8 in the rear, the HSCU in slots 7 and 9 in the rear
(forming a pair configuration with the HSYS), the ALUI in slot 16 in the front, and
the CKII in slots 13 and 14 or 15 and 16 in the rear (one CKII occupies two slots).

2)

For the remaining slots, configure the SBPU in the front slots and the SEPU in the
corresponding rear slots according to the system capacity. You need to configure
blank panels for slots not configured with boards.

3)

If the system supports broadband services, you need to configure the SBPI in slots
4 and 11 in the front and the VIEB in corresponding slots in the rear.

4)

To ensure system reliability, configure the HSYS, SBPI, and CKII in the
active/standby mode.

2.3.2 Slave Frame

I. Function
When the master frame configuration cannot meet the demand for subscriber capacity,
you can use one or more slave frames to improve the ability of processing signaling
service. The working clock of the slave frame is provided by the CKII of the master
frame.

II. Board Allocation

Chapter 4 Cables

Chapter 4 Cables
This chapter describes the cables of the SG7000, which can be roughly classified into
power cables, protection grounding cables, internal signal cables, and external signal
cables. This chapter describes the functions and appearances of these cables.

4.1 Power Cables and Protection Grounding Cables

Power cables provide input power for the cabinet and its internal components.
Protection grounding cables of the components in the cabinet interconnect with each
other through grounding bars in the cabinet. The grounding bars are connected to the
protection ground (PGND) of the DC power distribution cabinet through the protection
grounding cable of the cabinet, and connected with the protection grounding bus in the
equipment room through the DC power distribution cabinet. In addition, adjacent
cabinets are closely linked through protection grounding cables, making the whole
device an equipotential system.
The power cables and protection grounding cables of the cabinet and its internal
components can be classified into the following:
z

Power cables and protection grounding cables of frames.

Power cables and protection grounding cables of the BAM.

Power cables and protection grounding cables of the LAN Switch.

Power cables and protection grounding cables of the KVMS.

Protection grounding cables of the power distribution frame (connected upon

delivery).

Input power cables and protection grounding cables of the cabinet.

Interconnected protection grounding cables of the grounding bar of adjacent

cabinets.
