A Litany of the Gospel Power That

Delivers
From the Powers of Darkness
Rob

Luke 4:16-21 16 When he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as
usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. 17 The scroll
containing the messages of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him, and he unrolled the
scroll to the place where it says: 18 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has
appointed me to preach Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives
will be released, that the blind will see, that the downtrodden will be freed from their
oppressors, 19 and that the time of the Lord's favor has come. " 20 He rolled up the scroll,
handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. Everyone in the synagogue stared at him
intently. 21 Then he said, "This Scripture has come true today before your very eyes!"

Mark 1:14,21-28 14 Later on, after John was arrested by Herod Antipas, Jesus went to
Galilee to preach God's Good News. 21 Jesus and his companions went to the town of
Capernaum, and every Sabbath day he went into the synagogue and taught the people. 22
They were amazed at his teaching, for he taught as one who had real authority-- quite
unlike the teachers of religious law. 23 A man possessed by an evil spirit was in the
synagogue, 24 and he began shouting, "Why are you bothering us, Jesus of Nazareth?
Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are-- the Holy One sent from God!" 25
Jesus cut him short. "Be silent! Come out of the man." 26 At that, the evil spirit screamed
and threw the man into a convulsion, but then he left him. 27 Amazement gripped the
audience, and they began to discuss what had happened. "What sort of new teaching is
this?" they asked excitedly. "It has such authority! Even evil spirits obey his orders!" 28
The news of what he had done spread quickly through that entire area of Galilee.

Luke 4:40-41 40 As the sun went down that evening, people throughout the village
brought sick family members to Jesus. No matter what their diseases were, the touch of
his hand healed every one. 41 Some were possessed by demons; and the demons came out
at his command, shouting, "You are the Son of God." But because they knew he was the
Messiah, he stopped them and told them to be silent.

Mark 1:32-39 32 That evening at sunset, many sick and demon-possessed people were
brought to Jesus. 33 And a huge crowd of people from all over Capernaum gathered
outside the door to watch. 34 So Jesus healed great numbers of sick people who had many
different kinds of diseases, and he ordered many demons to come out of their victims.
But because they knew who he was, he refused to allow the demons to speak. 35 The next
morning Jesus awoke long before daybreak and went out alone into the wilderness to
pray. 36 Later Simon and the others went out to find him. 37 They said, "Everyone is
asking for you." 38 But he replied, "We must go on to other towns as well, and I will
preach to them, too, because that is why I came." 39 So he traveled throughout the region
of Galilee, preaching in the synagogues and expelling demons from many people.

Matthew 8:28-33 When Jesus arrived on the other side of the lake in the land of the
Gadarenes, two men who were possessed by demons met him. They lived in a cemetery
and were so dangerous that no one could go through that area. 29 They began screaming
at him, "Why are you bothering us, Son of God? You have no right to torture us before
God's appointed time!" 30 A large herd of pigs was feeding in the distance, 31 so the
demons begged, "If you cast us out, send us into that herd of pigs." 32 "All right, go!"
Jesus commanded them. So the demons came out of the men and entered the pigs, and the
whole herd plunged down the steep hillside into the lake and drowned in the water. 33
The herdsmen fled to the nearby city, telling everyone what happened to the demon-
possessed men.

Matthew 12:22 Then a demon-possessed man, who was both blind and unable to talk,
was brought to Jesus. He healed the man so that he could both speak and see.

Luke 8:1-2 Not long afterward Jesus began a tour of the nearby cities and villages to
announce the Good News concerning the Kingdom of God. He took his twelve disciples
with him, 2 along with some women he had healed and from whom he had cast out evil
spirits. Among them were Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons;

Mark 5:1-20 So they arrived at the other side of the lake, in the land of the Gerasenes. 2
Just as Jesus was climbing from the boat, a man possessed by an evil spirit ran out from a
cemetery to meet him. 3 This man lived among the tombs and could not be restrained,
even with a chain. 4 Whenever he was put into chains and shackles-- as he often was-- he
snapped the chains from his wrists and smashed the shackles. No one was strong enough
to control him. 5 All day long and throughout the night, he would wander among the
tombs and in the hills, screaming and hitting himself with stones. 6 When Jesus was still
some distance away, the man saw him. He ran to meet Jesus and fell down before him. 7
He gave a terrible scream, shrieking, "Why are you bothering me, Jesus, Son of the Most
High God? For God's sake, don't torture me!" 8 For Jesus had already said to the spirit,
"Come out of the man, you evil spirit." 9 Then Jesus asked, "What is your name?" And
the spirit replied, "Legion, because there are many of us here inside this man." 10 Then
the spirits begged him again and again not to send them to some distant place. 11 There
happened to be a large herd of pigs feeding on the hillside nearby. 12 "Send us into those
pigs," the evil spirits begged. 13 Jesus gave them permission. So the evil spirits came out
of the man and entered the pigs, and the entire herd of two thousand pigs plunged down
the steep hillside into the lake, where they drowned. 14 The herdsmen fled to the nearby
city and the surrounding countryside, spreading the news as they ran. Everyone rushed
out to see for themselves. 15 A crowd soon gathered around Jesus, but they were
frightened when they saw the man who had been demon possessed, for he was sitting
there fully clothed and perfectly sane. 16 Those who had seen what happened to the man
and to the pigs told everyone about it, 17 and the crowd began pleading with Jesus to go
away and leave them alone. 18 When Jesus got back into the boat, the man who had been
demon possessed begged to go, too. 19 But Jesus said, "No, go home to your friends, and
tell them what wonderful things the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has
been." 20 So the man started off to visit the Ten Towns of that region and began to tell
everyone about the great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed at
what he told them.

Matthew 15:21-28 21 Jesus then left Galilee and went north to the region of Tyre and
Sidon. 22 A Gentile woman who lived there came to him, pleading, "Have mercy on me,
O Lord, Son of David! For my daughter has a demon in her, and it is severely tormenting
her." 23 But Jesus gave her no reply-- not even a word. Then his disciples urged him to
send her away. "Tell her to leave," they said. "She is bothering us with all her begging."
24
Then he said to the woman, "I was sent only to help the people of Israel-- God's lost
sheep-- not the Gentiles." 25 But she came and worshiped him and pleaded again, "Lord,
help me!" 26 "It isn't right to take food from the children and throw it to the dogs," he
said. 27 "Yes, Lord," she replied, "but even dogs are permitted to eat crumbs that fall
beneath their master's table." 28 "Woman," Jesus said to her, "your faith is great. Your
request is granted." And her daughter was instantly healed.

Matthew 9:32-33 When they left, some people brought to him a man who couldn't
speak because he was possessed by a demon. 33 So Jesus cast out the demon, and
instantly the man could talk. The crowds marveled. "Nothing like this has ever happened
in Israel!" they exclaimed.

Dan

Matthew 17:14-18 14 When they arrived at the foot of the mountain, a huge crowd was
waiting for them. A man came and knelt before Jesus and said, 15 "Lord, have mercy on
my son, because he has seizures and suffers terribly. He often falls into the fire or into the
water. 16 So I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn't heal him." 17 Jesus replied,
"You stubborn, faithless people! How long must I be with you until you believe? How
long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to me." 18 Then Jesus rebuked the demon in
the boy, and it left him. From that moment the boy was well.

Luke 9:37-43 37 The next day, after they had come down the mountain, a huge crowd
met Jesus. 38 A man in the crowd called out to him, "Teacher, look at my boy, who is my
only son. 39 An evil spirit keeps seizing him, making him scream. It throws him into
convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It is always hitting and injuring him. It hardly
ever leaves him alone. 40 I begged your disciples to cast the spirit out, but they couldn't
do it." 41 "You stubborn, faithless people," Jesus said, "how long must I be with you and
put up with you? Bring him here." 42 As the boy came forward, the demon knocked him
to the ground and threw him into a violent convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the evil spirit
and healed the boy. Then he gave him back to his father. 43 Awe gripped the people as
they saw this display of God's power.

Luke 10:1,9,18-20 The Lord now chose seventy-two other disciples and sent them on
ahead in pairs to all the towns and villages he planned to visit. These were his
instructions to them:… heal the sick. As you heal them, say, 'The Kingdom of God is
near you now.'…When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him,
"Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!" 18 "Yes," he told them, "I saw
Satan falling from heaven as a flash of lightning! 19 And I have given you authority over
all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush
them. Nothing will injure you. 20 But don't rejoice just because evil spirits obey you;
rejoice because your names are registered as citizens of heaven."

Jim

Luke 11:14 One day Jesus cast a demon out of a man who couldn't speak, and the man's
voice returned to him. The crowd was amazed…

Dan

Luke 13:10-17 10 One Sabbath day as Jesus was teaching in a synagogue, 11 he saw a
woman who had been crippled by an evil spirit. She had been bent double for eighteen
years and was unable to stand up straight. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called her over and
said, "Woman, you are healed of your sickness!" 13 Then he touched her, and instantly
she could stand straight. How she praised and thanked God! 14 But the leader in charge of
the synagogue was indignant that Jesus had healed her on the Sabbath day. "There are six
days of the week for working," he said to the crowd. "Come on those days to be healed,
not on the Sabbath." 15 But the Lord replied, "You hypocrite! You work on the Sabbath
day! Don't you untie your ox or your donkey from their stalls on the Sabbath and lead
them out for water? 16 Wasn't it necessary for me, even on the Sabbath day, to free this
dear woman from the bondage in which Satan has held her for eighteen years?" 17 This
shamed his enemies. And all the people rejoiced at the wonderful things he did.

Acts 5:12-14, 16 the apostles were performing many miraculous signs and wonders
among the people. And the believers were meeting regularly at the Temple in the area
known as Solomon's Colonnade. 13 No one else dared to join them, though everyone had
high regard for them. 14 And more and more people believed and were brought to the
Lord-- crowds of both men and women…Crowds came in from the villages around
Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those possessed by evil spirits, and they were all
healed.

Acts 16:16-18 16 One day as we were going down to the place of prayer, we met a
demon-possessed slave girl. She was a fortune-teller who earned a lot of money for her
masters. 17 She followed along behind us shouting, "These men are servants of the Most
High God, and they have come to tell you how to be saved." 18 This went on day after
day until Paul got so exasperated that he turned and spoke to the demon within her. "I
command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her," he said. And instantly it
left her.

Acts 26:17-18 I am going to send you to the Gentiles, 18 to open their eyes so they may
turn from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God. Then they will receive
forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God's people, who are set apart by
faith in me.'
