Education for the mentally handicapped. Through the years Tim has
overcome much of his physical and emotional problems. The
emphasis of the Baleys' ministry is that such handicapped people
need a chance to develop their potential and can be useful -- often
possessing gifts that can be used to glorify the Lord.
Mrs. Baley encourages the parents of other brain-damaged
children by saying, "Do not accept negative advice. Just keep
plugging, no matter how bad it looks. Our strength came from the
Lord. There is certainly a lot He has to offer".
And what is Tim the musician doing today? He has already
performed twice on the White House lawn and on Liberace's nine-foot
glass concert grand piano in Las Vegas. One of Tim's latest
accomplishments, and the fulfillment of a life-long desire, was to meet
and play the piano with Liberace. This meeting was planned and
filmed by the NBC television network for broadcast on their
nationally-televised "Fantasy" program. Way to go, Tim!

Reflections...
GLEANINGS WITH MEANINGS

... I have many beautiful and special thoughts of my

sister, Ruby, who passed away three years ago, and I
cherish every precious memory of her. One of those
times was when I was very young. We were doing
dishes, and it was just days till Christmas. My child-like
curiosity of what I was getting was about to get the
best of me. I also had begged mother to tell me what
Sis was getting; however, mother did not trust me with
this type of secret. But in her weakness and with MY
PROMISE not to tell Sis, she said, "We got her a

beautiful pink chenille bedspread!" This only added to

my excitement. .. Sis hstened as I badgered her,

trying to get the answer to my question, but I knew it

was hopeless. I gave one LAST try and blurted out,
"Sis, IF you'll tell me what I got for Christmas, Til tell
you what color your bedspread is!" I won't say what
took place after that, except it was years before
mother ever told me another secret! I told Sis just

enough.... In Revelation Chapter 21 we are given just

a hint of how beautiful heaven will be! We have just a
taste of its description, and as Sis was overwhelmed
with the beautiful bedspread, we cannot begin to
visualize the beauty of heaven, only that God promises
it to all who faithfully love, trust, serve, and obey
Him!

.. . Jan. 23. Sunday. Off to Horizon City, east of El

Paso. Tim played and we sang at the Community
Chapel. A lovely turkey dinner followed at the Lloyd

Sapp's, and other guests were friends and neighbors of

the Sapp's, Carol and Galen Foster. Tim has a
SPECIAL love for these people and was so happy to
have this time with them, too.

... Jan. 25. Thursday. Presented the chapel program at

the El Paso School of Missions. A phone call and at the
other end were the voices of long-time friends, Forrest
and Edythe Mae Clodfelter of Grand Junction,
Colorado. With them were Merle (Edythe Mae's

brother) and Vivian Rintoul of Garden City, Kansas.

Dinner was a time when all had "verbomania!" Fun!

.. . Every spare minute while we were home was

precious and used to plan the 1983 tour and to catch

up on office work and correspondence!
.. .Jan. 27. Thursday. A 4:45 A.M. alarm isn't the
choicest way to start a day, BUT we did! At 5:30
Forrest took us to the hospital, and at 6:00 Jerry was
being prepared for surgery. Forrest did not trust me

(he said) to drive Melody, but he is just the kind of

person whose Christian character and love is as alive
early morning as any other time of day. They truly
cared and insisted on helping out. We are ever grateful

for such long-standing, devoted, loving friends. Jerry's

left eye has had very little vision from birth but some
peripheralvision was there and helpful; however, it was
diminished by a cataract. This was becoming a real
problem with ALL the driving he does. The eye exam
revealed the cataract, and the doctor advised removal
and a lens implant. This was the day! The Lord blessed
the surgery in every facet of it, and Jerry was home by
10:30 A.M. How I marvel at this tremendous surgery

from our home someone appeared from "NOWHERE"
and hit our Melody in the left front as Jerry was
preparing to turn left. The person got away within
seconds, and there were no witnesses. We feel certain,
with the tremendous speed, the individual was either
drunk or on dope. Police were of NO help. The damage
was between $4,000.00 and $5,000.00. All this in a
fleeting moment. Sleep didn't come easily when we
finally got to bed at 2:00 A.M. Thanksgiving for all of
our blessings kept us awake! Had we been in a car we
all would have been hurt or killed, I am sure

... Jan. 7. Friday. A wonderful way to start the New

Year with Jerry's cousin, Nela, and husband, Mel
Flannery surprising us with a flash visit! Home to
Romoland, California, had a stronger pull then we had,
and they were far too soon on their way.

.. . Jan. 20. Tliursday. Another surprise, surprise! Bill

and Marcheta Lockhart, minister in Green Valley,
Arizona, were passing through El Paso. They, too,
stayed for what seemed like a fleeting moment.

meaning that night (morning).

.. . Jan 31. Monday. Melody was towed off to the

hospital. We were all sad\ The left front was severely
damaged, even the frame. I can't conceive how the
person drove his car away from the accident.
... Feb. 1. Tuesday. Planning meeting held with the El
Paso Mental Health and Retardation Center. Tim will

give a benefit concert March 13. Meetings are held

every Tuesday evening.
... Dentists, doctors, income tax

all need to be

attended to while home.

OVER MEXICO WAY

...Feb. 12. Saturday. A unique concert in Juarez,

Mexico. The spoken language is a barrier at times, but
music is a universal language, and as guests of many
Christian young people, Tim was delighted to present a
concert for their annual Sweetheart Banquet. Their
applause and standing ovation were overwhelming
expressions of appreciation and love that thrilled Tim,
along with a superb Mexican dinner that put "FIRE"
into his playing.

.. . Feb. 24. Thursday. Lots of time and effort spent as

the benefit concert gets closer.
A SIDEWINDER

... Feb. 26. Saturday. Even at 5:00 A.M. Melody was

agreeable and in good shape (although the repairs were
not finished yet. The skin (cover) had to be put on and
the painting done.), and so we trekked off to Arizona.
First stop was with the Green Valley Christian Church
and some favorite people, Bill and Marcheta Lockhart,
minister. It is a place Tim loves to return to! The folk
there treat Tim as their own, and his joys are many.

... Feb. 27. Sunday. We were pleased the morning

service brought in many from the community as we
shared our work during the Bible School hour, and the
concert was during the morning worship service.
Afternoon was a time to share at a nursing home in
Green Valley. A "first" for all of us as "Millie" was
wheeled in by Tim who was at the piano. For a long
time this 104 year old lady, a former music teacher,
has been nearly unresponsive. She does not speak, but
as she watched Tim, she responded by clapping at

MORE HOMETOWN HAP-E-NINGS

... Tim has played locally at the Eastside, New

Testament, Westside, Logan Heights, and Austin Park
Christian Churches. We are grateful for this area of
service, and at the same time we get to see many
friends while home that possibly otherwise we would
miss.

.. . Feb. 14. Monday. Melody was to be done

(partially) but delayed, and many more delays
followed! (More on this later.)

...Feb. 16. Picked Melody up today! Started

"housecleaning" her. Those drapes are no picnic to
wash and iron, and there seems to be no end to
cupboards, which seem all too small when 1 load them.
.. . Feb. 20. Sunday. A day at Austin Park Christian

Church. Hal Selke, minister, invited Tim to give a

concert and invited us to tell of our work at the

monthly fellowship dinner. In the evening we went

across town to Eastside Christian Church for a concert.
Ken Johnson is the minister there.

... An endless (seemingly) chore was to pack and

re-pack the motorhome, sort and choose what to take.
Clothing for all seasons takes space!

.. . Feb. 22. Tuesday. Taxes are FINALLY ready to

take to our faithful preparcr, Lee Clark. At least we see
her once each year. That's the only good I can see in it.
. . . Feb. 23. Wednesday. Warmth and Christian love
were all that superseded the tasty Bar-B-Que Chicken
Dinner as we were with the Immanuel Baptist Church
in El Paso. Tim's concert received an overwhelming

first feebly and then with considerable zest. Effort was

even made to talk but not accomplished; however, her
bright and shining eyes were telling it all as they filled
with tears. I'll always remember Millie and the teddy
bear that lay in her lap,.. A bit of a hurried trip now
into Tucson and to the Northside Christian Church,
Jim Larsen, minister. We arrived in time for a huge
dinner at the church. (Sure would have hated to miss
it.) The concert followed, and it too was a noteworthy
evening. Next, a trip around the corner from the
church to the hospital emergency room. Severe pain
persisted all day in Jerry's right eye, and it was
diagnosed as "overwearing" his contact.

GRAPHIC SPLENDOR

... Feb. 28. Monday. Breakfast at Larsen's. Jerry was

especially thrilled to see Karen Larsen's dad, J. C.

during this all too short a time in Arizona. By 2:00

A.M. we felt Melody needed her rest (not us), and a
roadside park near Lordsburg, New Mexico, was the

Garrison and to visit with him. J.C. and he had been in

perfect spot.

seminary together. .. A little time has passed since

then. Karen's brother, sister-in-law and their baby also
came. The day seemed LONG as Tim awaited the

evening's event. Liberace was in concert in Tucson, and

we had never been able to attend a concert before. Tim

said, "The Lord worked it out," and I don't disagree at

all. Jim Larsen was our gracious chauffer. We arrived at
Music Hall... Tim spotted the table with records and
tapes. I think he has every one Liberace has ever made!
At any rate, he said to the young man at the table, "I
had a thrill of a lifetime... I got to meet Liberace and
play a duet with him on national TV!" The young man
said, "I know." I was shocked and said, "How do you
know?" His reply, "I was there, I work for Liberace."
We exchanged a few more words and started our trek
to our seats. Finally reached the area. An usher, who
had been talking on a 2-way radio came to us (Jerry
was ahead.) and said, "Front row seats OK, sir? Please,
follow me." I did NOT hear what he said, and as Jerry
got to the door, he stepped aside to let me go ahead.
As we got about midway, I said, "Sir, this is our row!"
Jerry said, "Follow him." I did. To the front
row... Tim had begged for front row seats. Wlien I
talked to the ticket office, NOTHING was available

close. I told Tim and kept telling him there was

absolutely NO WAY we could sit down front. That
reserved seat is your seat wherever it is! As we sat
down, Tim whispered in my ear, "See, Mom, the Lord
answered my prayer. I told you we'd get front row
seats!" The only better seat would have been on top of
the piano... The concert was superb in every way, and
Liberace's smiles to Tim and then a handshake with

Tim and me, during

Then a short time in a coffee house to let Tim unwind.

Jim got a blow-by-blow description of EVERY last

detail. Liberace speaks of Eddy Duchin as his idol... I
don't need to say who Tim's is.
.. . March 2. Wednesday. A return visit to Sierra Vista,
Arizona, Qiristian Church, Lee Erwin, minister. This
evening was their annual missions fair. The devastating
storm that plagued CaUfomia was presenting itself in
the form of hard rain and wind in Arizona. It didn't

affect

the

crowd

however,

and

the

beautiful

international dinner before the concert seemed even

tastier. And then, the time was here, though far too
soon, to say good-bye. There are so many who are
precious to us there. The weather forecast was for
severe wind and rain to move in and the possibility for
high profile vehicles to be grounded, so we got our
bodies in high gear and at 9:00 P.M. were rolling along
I-10, thanking God for His goodness to us in every way
and recalling the blessings each event afforded us

BACK HOME AGAIN

IN EL PASO

... March 3. Thursday. Dad was eager to get on the

way, and at 5:15 A.M. he routed poor Melody out, but
as always, she was up and at 'em! El Paso was having
her share of the storm, and when we arrived home at
8:30, we breathed a sigh of relief. We needed to get
Melody unloaded as she was due back in the hospital in
the morning. It was a real blessing to have the rain
cease while we did this.

... March 4. Friday. The "SKIN" they call it, or

outside covering, of Melody had to be ordered. It had
arrived, and so Jerry took her to the shop for the
finishing of that and all the other repair work. It's
supposed to be finished in a week.
... March 5. Saturday. El Paso has had a name for
beautiful weather, and ordinarily one can brag. Tim
had a concert for First Church of Santa Teresa, Ron

Sapp, minister. (Santa Teresa is on the outskirts of El

Paso.) Well, today I believe we had the worst
sandstorm (a result of the same storm on the coast) I
have ever seen!!! We found our way to the concert (I

wondered how?), and many others did too... and had

a beautiful evening. It was even more pleasant with a
time of relaxation (We were ready.) at Ron and his
wife, Amy's, so we enjoyed tacos with them and
friends, Travis and Ruth Qopton.
A CAUSE TO CELEBRATE

.. . March 6. Sunday. For some time Jerry had worked

with and encouraged Tim to accompany us when we

sang. We knew he could do it. Well, today was the first

in public! We sang at Eastside Christian Church, and
Tim did a super job accompanying us, and he was
thrilled with the accomplishment... A return concert
at the Zion Lutheran Church in El Paso. They honored
us with a beautiful salad buffet, and the crowd was so
responsive.

... March 7. Monday. An exciting event. The Mental

Health and Mental Retardation Benefit Concert plans
and advertising were going full-speed ahead. They truly
left no stone unturned in their "blitz" campaign. Since
it was "Tim's Dream" to help his own kind, the theme
was carried out to the fullest, and a most impressive
billboard

in

downtown El

Paso was donated for

advertisement. It went up today. It was right on I-IO

and most visible. Banks across the city headlined in

neon lights "Tim Baley Benefit Concert". I told Tim

this was the first to be on a billboard and have his

name in neon lights. When we took him by to see

them, I said, "Well, Tim, what do you think?" He

didn't say anything for a minute and then said, "Oh, I
guess it's OK!"
.. . March 10. Thursday. A concert at Bel Air Middle

-4-

School in El Paso. Time in the evening with Forrest

and Edythe Mae Clodfelter of Grand Junction,

Colorado, and Les and Veda Lively, who were in town
from Ojai, California. We all enjoyed many years
together back in the late 50's and early 60's in Grand
Junction. What a joy to relive many memories over
dinner.

. . . March 11. Friday. The benefit concert is just

around the corner. Today was given over to the news
media. At 10:00, 11:30, and 2:00 we had interviews
with TV stations. Then a local newspaper came for
pictures. People from MH & MR Center came, so it was
a sort of "open house". A fun but exhausting day.
Melody came out of the shop AGAIN but still NOT
done.

SPOTLIGHT

... March 13. Sunday. The awaited day had arrived!!!

All the bad weather left, sunshine and warmth were
abundant. The elegant sanctuary of the Immanuel
Baptist Church was FULL. A few kind remarks from
the chairman of the board of Mental Health & Mental

Retardation Center, Taft Lyon; then we spoke, and

now "Tim's Dream" was to be realized. He could

hardly wait to get his fingers on the beautiful grand

piano. He was dressed in his first "full dress suit"
(creamy beige and chocolate brown). Beautiful floral
arrangements graced the stage, and one sat by the

said, "Tim's Dream ~ March 13, 1983". There is no

description of Tim's reaction when he saw this gift. I

can only say I'm thankful Taft Lyon did not receive

Tim was truly the picture of an artist. His audience was

under his command, and the afternoon was an

any broken ribs from his "Bear Hug"! The curtain

emotional experience for all. The program opened as

Tim gave a bombastic rendition of "My Country 'Tis
of Thee." Clients from the different workshops for the

dream was a Reality and has already brought in $2,100

for MHMR!!! We say thank you sincerely for those of

retarded carried in flags, and the audience stood and

saluted. Other clients assisted passing out bulletins and
ushering. Numerous local dignitaries honored Tim and

MHMR by attending. City councilman, Joe Divis, gave

compassionate remarks. Dr. Lee Yudin, executive
director of MHMR, brought to the attention of all that

this day, March 13, was National Retardation Sunday!

When the concert date was set, no one was aware of
this! God's timing is so perfect. The slogan for the
Texas Association of the Disabled is "Disabled but

Abled!" Tim's challenge this day was to bring into

focus the possibility of a greater life for all, who like
him, are mentally disabled. Tliere is no doubt that the
effort he put forth did just that, and I feel sure a
greater love and empathy will be extended to bridge
the gap of society's acceptance of the mentally
disabled. As I viewed Tim's joy and excitement of the
moment, I could also see and feel the love the audience
was extending to Tim. Applause rang out, eyes were
weepy, and the standing ovation left no doubt in my
mind "Mission Accomplished." The cooperation of all
El Paso, and especially the Civitan clubs, the many
generous contributions, and the efforts of all made this
momentous occasion what it was. .. one exhilarating
thing was yet to come! Tim was presented with an
adorable miniature, clear plastic, grand piano music
box for his collection. On it was a gold plate which

could then be drawn on "Tim's Dream"

but the

you who shared in this.

... March 14. Monday. Our prayer has been, "Lord,

should we keep our house in El Paso? It offers us a lot

of concern as we travel." After much prayer we put it

on the market. Time will tell. Poor "Melody" back
in the hospital. Hopefully this is it. (I told you it was a
hassle.)

... March 15 & 16. Tuesday & Wednesday. Time is

approaching to be leaving on our next tour! So MUCH
yet to do. Trying to get the inside and outside of the
house ready. Visits with many El Paso friends had to
be. Will be SO LONG til we see them again.
... March 17. Thursday. Melody STILL not done! We
went and got her at 4:15 p.m. anyway! Began final
stage of packing and cleaned up the mess from the
repairs (grease on rugs, etc.). It had been a
disheartening day and with so little time to finish
preparation. Mike and Josie Padilla and their girls (our
neighbors) saved our day with a huge farewell Mexican
dinner. No restaurant can surpass Josie! After a bit of
rest, we went back to work and finally called it a day
at 1:30 a.m.

Please pray for us and

"Melody " as we are on the road.

THRILLS AND CHILLS

... March 18. Friday. How dare that alarm ring at

5:45 a.m. I thought it couldn't be. There was an
exciting time ahead!! Many months ago we were
contacted by the Good Shepherd Lutheran Homes to
go to San Jose, California. They have an annual
business meeting for the homes and wanted Tim to be
the entertainment. These homes are superb residences,
sponsored by the Lutheran Church, for the mentally
handicapped. Having visited one in Terra Bella,
California, we knew we wanted to be a part of it and
appreciated the kind invitation. Our only problem was
we were booked, and our tour was east, NOT west. '"If
you can change your tour, we'd surely appreciate it."
"We miglit be able to," I said, "But we have to work
our way to a destination and that will be impossible at
that time." "Oh, we'll fly you to and from, if you'll
just come." We knew the sincerity of their request and
went to work on it. Everything fell into place, and now
it was the appointed day. Arising early and getting the
finishing touches done made departure pleasant. Jerry
took Melody back to the shop on the way to the
airport. Mike (our neighbor) graciously took us to the
airport. The plane was LATE. Well, a second breakfast
was the first thing Tim suggested. When we took off in
a doozy of a storm, we were told the delay was "a
mechanical problem". I said, "I HOPE it's fixed." Tim
manages to get air sick at the least bit of rough motion.
It was rough, and he was sick! The storm was doing its
thing.. . then before we reached Albuquerque, New
Mexico, there was a loud crash and a brilliant flash of
fire. I felt it must be lightning. Jerry thought this, too.
Soon the flight attendant said the captain will come on
and explain the problem. He did. All we could
understand from his airline terminology was the plane
had had a "discharge of some kind."

out all was beautiful, and we were greeted ever so

warmly in a COLD breeze by Ruth Bifulco, our
gracious hostess and the Associate Director/Publica
tions of the homes. Tim and Ruth have a great love for
each other, and this bond was encased in cement these
days. We were escorted to the beautiful Hyatt House in

San Jose, and the generous hospitality of these people

was unending! What better way to unwind after a most
hectic flight than over dinner in the lovely restaurant
at the feet of an outstanding harpist. Tim was
enthralled and cheered her on. Our very dear friends,
Earlene and Gail Wolfe, came to the hotel and joined
us for dinner. This was the whipped cream on top of
the cake. Love those two!! And then finally rest was,
oh, so welcome.

...March 19. Saturday. The day started with a

leisurely breakfast with Ruth and a run-down of the
week-end of events to come. A 1:00 p.m. buffet gave
us opportunity - and at 3:00 p.m. Tim became
acquainted with the piano. A social hour at 6:30 p.m.,

CALIFORNIA HERE WE ARE

... All I can say is the flight and setting down in

Albuquerque, and then in Denver's snow left us with a

few memories we'd just as soon forget. From Denver
elegant dinner at 7:30, and Tim's concert at 8:30.
After a time of meeting people, a more intimate time
of conversation in the coffee shop followed. The next
day had arrived better get to bed!
... March 20. Sunday. Ruth took us to the Prince of
Peace Lutheran Church in Fremont, California. Tim

played for 2 Bible School classes and then gave a

mini-concert at the morning worship service. A lovely
lunch followed for the board members, visitors, and
others there for the Good Shepherd Homes. We then
thrilled as we were privileged to tour two newly
completed homes located in Fremont a group
home for 12 and an independent living complex with
20 single apartments. These facilities are of the highest
quality in every way. Truly a step forward in the right
direction for the residents! Time had come to an end

Tim, Rosemary, Jerry, & Ruth Bifulco

for us to be with the Good Shepherd Homes. Ruth

took us back to our hotel. It is always hard to say

good-bye, and in this case, it was extremely so. Such
tender and benevolent hospitality will never be
forgotten. We only pray we were as much a blessing to
those we were with as they all were to us. At 5:00 p.m.
Gail Wolfe picked us up and taxied us to Almaden
Valley Christian Church, Ron Rasmussen, minister. It
was like old home week! What joy to see Keith and
Evelyn Romkee (were in Grand Junction, Colorado,
when Tim was little. He was thrilled to see them.)
Then the C.V. Dyer's from San Leandro, California,
and such a beautiful young lady and friend, Debby
Backstrand. A jubilant time, without a doubt, followed
in the social hall after the concert. We couldn't leave
town without a bit more time with our treasured

friends, Gail and Earlene Wolfe, and a bonus was

meeting Earlene's brother, Wendall, and his children.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT

...March 21. Monday. A 1:00 p.m. departure, and

our flight was most pleasant. A stop-over in Denver
was a really blissful time as we were greeted by Ray
Underwood and Wilma and Clayton Grimstad
friends for oh, so many years. On to El Paso, and our
welcoming committee was Nancy and Bill Petsch. They
did the impossible (I do believe). They saw to it that
Melody WAS finished (one for Ripley's "Believe It or
Not") and outside the gates of the garage so we could
pick her up when we got in town at 10:00 p.m. I wish
there was space to give you all the agonizing details
that transpired. It would fill a volume. In a nut-shell,
we were to leave in the morning (March 22) so had to
have the motorhome out, packed, and ready! Since the
garage closes at 5:00, and we didn't get in till 10:00,
our friends, Nancy and Bill Petsch, said they'd go by
and get the key and assured us that Melody would be
out of the fenced, locked yard and READY to go. A
little before 5:00 p.m.. Bill went in to see if she was
READY and to get the key. He had been on them all
week-end to be sure it was finished. In talking to a
man, he said he saw her sitting there and was relieved.
Bill said we'd be in around 10:00 to get the
motorhome. The fellow said, "You can't get it. They
park cars all across the drives to keep people out!" It
was a FIRST for Bill as he gently and prayerfully drove
Melody to a nearby furniture store parking lot. We
knew as they greeted us Melody was DONE finally and
out of the hospital and safe as they were grinning from
ear to ear, BUT it was not an easy job! Don't think we
were ever so relieved in all our lives. It was a BIG

thanks to Nancy and Bill, and then home to WORK,

really getting in gear as morning was well on its way.
OH! The clock says it's 4:00 a.m.! All that unpacking,
repacking, laundry, etc. did take time.
ON THE TRAIL

sluggish start in Melody, BUT she had sat a long time

in the garage. (We thought.) Soon we were cruising
peacefully down the highway towards Artesia, New
Mexico. This is a 4-hour drive. The concert was to be

at 7:00. On Guadalupe Pass, miles from nowhere, Jerry

pulled into a roadside park (going up the mountain). A
brief rest and ready to go. NOT SO! Must be a dead
battery. We sat. A terrible day very, very strong
winds, dust, and COLD. Tim got out to flag a trucker.
Not successful. . . "Lord, it is getting very late. We
have the 7:00 p.m. concert, and we're still over 100
miles away, and no phone near to call them. PLEASE,
take care of this situation." .. In a few minutes our

dearest of friends, Forrest and Edythe Mae Clodfelter,

were coming up the mountain! Tim, so cold and
miserable, tried again. THEN he saw WHO it was and
about went into outer space with excitement. Within
minutes a jumper cable had us going. It was 4:00 p.m.
At 6:45 a car and its driver, Don Fream, anxiously
awaiting our arrival, met us at the drive-way of Artesia
Christian College and drove us to where we were to be.
At 6:55 we were dressed (after a fashion) and ready
for the concert at 7:00. After all was over we thanked

our God for HIS ever perfect timing, for HIS very
present help in trouble, and STILL once more a greater
realization He takes care of every situation, and in this
case it seemed He did the impossible again. The
Clodfelter's had changed their plans, and God used
them as His angels of mercy! An exciting concert with
all the dear friends.

MORE HIGHWAY HIGHLIGHTS

... March 23. Wednesday. A good night's sleep, a

refreshing breakfast in the cafeteria, and Melody was
then checked out. Again, God blessed us! The college
has a garage, and the expertise of William Baldwin
found a new starter... In no time at all, we were in
Dimmit, Texas, and lovingly greeted by Wenonah and
Roy Barringer, minister of the Dimmit First Christian
Church. We had met "Nona" and Roy the year before.
Time has a way of changing people! Nona said,
"Rosemary, I know you! When I read your book and
saw your maiden name (No one would forget it.), I
said, 'Roy, we were in college together.'" We had not
recognized each other the year before when we met. It
was hard to settle down for the concert, but soon we
were in the spirit and such a gratifying time! The
church was full, and they loved Tim so. Food
everywhere after... and the amiable feeling they
imparted will always be with us. We are SO blessed. It
was impossible to quit talking, and Nona also drug out
pictures. Roy works part-time as a truck driver. He
said, "Tim, if it's not too bad (weather) or late when I
go to work, I'll take you to see my truck." There
would be no weather too bad or hour too late if Tim

and 11:30 a.m. we had it altogether. (I think.) With
great anticipation of the days and months ahead we
bid farewell to El Paso once again... A bit of a

keep and finally at 1:00 a.m. Nona, Roy, and Tim left.
Jerry and I said, "Thanks anyway."
... March 24. Thursday. Nona had a farm breakfast
ready, and after she loaded us down with homemade

goodies of every description, we said, "adios" and

went again, rejoicing and praising God for His endless
blessing to us.
i Peter 5:7

... Weather is raging behind us, so we will keep ahead

of it (we hope). Tliey say "TORNADO WARNINGS"
in such and such counties. That tells you a lot when
you are a stranger! It had been a long day. Rest is a
must. "Lord, we are in Your hands. Protect us." The
wind howled, the rain and some hail pounded on poor
Melody's roof, and the lightning flashed, but we felt
safe and snug as we were lulled off to sleep by all the
storm's racket, knowing our Lord had us in the hollow

of His hand.
WIND-BLOWN

... March 26 April 3. The storm was staying right

around us, but it pushed Melody from behind as we
continued on. That was nice. In late afternoon the

Small family greeted us with a BIG welcome. Jim

Small (Bob Small's nephew) and his wife, Vickie,
minister to the Checotah, Oklahoma, Christian Church.
The Bob Small's (Bob and his wife, Dr. Norma Sneed
Small) have been cherished friends for many years.
Tim about crushed tiny Norma with a big hug. We had
an exciting, wild, and wonderful week with all the
Small's and this fine group of people as we led in a
Pre-Easter Evangelistic Meeting. Days were filled with
trips into Tulsa (There were two.) for TV interviews,
(Tulsa is 60 miles 1 way from Checotah), a concert at
the local high school, and times to visit with people
and enjoy such generous hospitality in ever>'
conceivable way. There were meetings each night, and
of course, food was abundant as we were hosted in
many homes all week. Only the love shown to us was
superior, and we felt the bonds of this love as it tugged
at our heart-strings. What a jubilant surprise to get up
to sing one night, and out in the audience were some

of the dearest people we know Darryl, wife Linda,

and daughter Stacie Grimm from Claremore, Okla
homa (75 miles away). It was my birthday. They came
with a huge, beautiful cake, and the church had
surprised me with a cake. What a thrill! The Grimms
trekked down twice. That's a lot of effort, time, and

devotion. The excitement of the week grew each day

and night, and though the stormy, blustery weather
had been with us, it did not curtail the attendance or
spirit.

been the preaching minister for the meeting. Once a
preacher always a preacher, I guess. The sun went
down there in the park, and the lights flooded over
Tim as he praised God through music this night. As
always, he did a tremendous rendition of "How Great
Thou Art." I was overwhelmed, even to tears, in those
moments that our God loved us ALL enough and was
so great that He sent His Son, Jesus, to give salvation
to ALL. Praise God! He is risen!! And too, as Tim
played, I somehow knew how weak and frail I was as a
mother. I could never give my son for someone else! It
was now dark and cold, and I felt it ever so much
because we had to say good-bye to all those we'd
grown so close to all week.

... April 4. Monday. Bob Small did some photography

of us for the Capstan Review paper before we left, and
soon Melody wound her way from Capstan, Inc.
(where we were parked at Bob and Norma's). With a
little effort, we were directed to Dallas. Bill and
Dorothy Morgan met us at the Qearview Christian
Church and tended to our every need. We were
overjoyed to see these, our fellow co-workers in El
Paso, and for a short time, our neighbors.

... April 6. Wednesday. Dorothy Morgan had never

CHEERS TO TEARS

... A simply gorgeous Easter Sunday was ours to

enjoy from beginning to end, and though it was brisk,

Tim gave an open air concert in the little park in
Checotah as the final climax to the meeting. . . Prior to

this Larry Buck took Tim to see the diesel trucks and

equipment where he works. (See picture.) Tim was

truly high for the concert. How hard to say "Thank
you ALL for a memorable time. You have helped us,
and our prayer is 'may it be we helped you.'" Jerry,
usually ministering through music, was blessed to have

heard one of Tim's concerts, though she had heard him

play many times. She vowed this time NOTHING
would get her down! It didn't. .. We were taxied by
her to Dallas Christian College where Tim played for

the chapel service. A host of El Paso youth attending

the college greeted us Gizelle Vega, Leslie Wray,
Jill Russell, Dawn Stivers, Dana Eggleston, and Judy
Bump. We couldn't believe these kids were so GROWN
and

out

on

their

own.

Love

them

all

so

much... Lunch in the college cafeteria, and we were

on our way to Four Seasons Nursing Home in Dallas.

Bill met us there, and Tim soon had the residents

"tapping their toes." "Do you have to go?" they
asked. Twill never forget one little lady who took my
hand and with tears in her eyes, said, "Thank you for
cx>ming. This was wonderful. It was SO MUCH
BETTER than sitting and looking at my bathroom. I
have a beautiful bathroom, but this was so much
better!" Concert number 2 for Dorothy! A bit of rest
followed and back into the Morgan Taxi and across
town again to another nursing home. They, too, were
elated with the concert. A man and his wife sat at the

door as we

finished, a man was standing just behind

me, and as Tim came over, he said, "I am H. 6. (Has

Been) Worthy... My daughter came back and said,

*Daddy, come quick and meet this boy at the piano!"'

We ended up going back to see his wife of so many
years, now a patient. Though paralyzed of body, her
mind was so vibrant. She wanted to hear Tim play so
badly, but there was no way to do this. Her eyes
sparkled with the joy of the moment, after a bit, Jerry
led in prayer and we left.

... April 7. Thursday. Concert this morning at

Heritage Christian Academy. This was number 4 for
Dorothy! She's doing A-OK! A quieter day and time to
relax a bit vwth the Morgan's.
... April 8. Friday. Afternoon was pleasant as we were
able to be at the lovely Juliette Fowler Home in Dallas.
It is a Senior Citizens Retirement Center. (I could have
stayed.) Liz Moore, Public Information Specialist for
the National Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC),

graced us with her presence. We have had many phone

calls with this office, but this was our first personal
contact. It was worth waiting for. The ARC has been
very helpful and supportive of Tim and encourages
parents and workers across the U.S. to attend the
concerts. The evening was spent enjoying High School
Days at Dallas Christian College.

. -. April 9. Saturday. The Kingdom Seekers Class of

Qearview Christian (Thurch had a dinner meeting. Jerry
borrowed a guitar, and though everyone was full and
running over with beans and com bread, we all made a
"joyful noise unto the Lord" as he led us in singing
and brought devotions.
TIPTOE THROUGH THE TULIPS

...April 10. Sunday. A full and happy day with

Qearview. Tim played, and we spoke during the
morning worship. Lunch with Dorothy and Bill and a.
quick trip to see beautiful Las Colinas, a new city
being built near Dallas. The floral landscaping leaves
you breathless, and it's indescribable except to say
there must be millions of red and yellow tulips, huge
yellow and white pansies, and small, delicate, purple
flowers perfectly planted throughout this magnificent
place. A peaceful waterway winds through the city
accenting the gracefully designed buildings and

sidewalks, which are free of litter on the ground, and

one sees no litter of billboards or signs on buildings.
McDonald's is there, but its appearance is that of an
elegant restaurant! And so we viewed man's ability to
build a beautiful city but have a greater vision and
hope of seeing the eternal city where the streets are of
pure gold. It truly will be indescribable. The concert
followed at 6:00 p.m. at Qearview. Jenny (George)
DeMar and her husband, Danny, and their children
drove over, and her cheery countenance added so
much to our day. Well, Dorothy did OK... this was
concert number 6! Congratulations, Dorothy, and we
hope you didn't get sick afterwards from all the
activity!

... April 11. Monday. Corpus Qiristi, here we

come... Tim^s times with teacher. Red Camp, were, as
usual, PRICELESS, as are these friends to us. More and
more people say to us, "Red Camp has to be a
wonderful person for all he has done to help Tim. We'd
like to say 'Thanks' to him for his part." So we give
them his address. For any of our readers who would
like to do this, we say a hearty "right on", and give

you their address:

and Mrs. Red Camp, 548
Naples, Corpus Christi, Texas 78404. He truly has
given far above the average teacher, and his pay is our
very grateful and sincere "Thank you, Red and
Alvis"... The beautiful RV park on the Gulf, with the
gentle breeze, sunny skies, sea gulls, palm trees, and all
that goes with beautiful Corpus Christi, was just the
ticket to put some vitality back into some **unvital"
people. Tim walked and walked and learned ever so
much more about the ocean, ships, Corpus Christi, and
you just name it. He takes it ALL in!
... April 14. Thursday. Another wonderful learning
experience for Tim and Dad, and then that which we
did

not

like

was

upon

us.

We had

to

say

good-bye... Lunch on our way out of town with Fred

McWhorter, minister of the New Testament Christian
Church in Corpus Christi, and back on Highway 77.
After awhile, we were in Victoria. Here we had to say
hi to former El Pasoans, the Russell's, Floyd & Alta,
and their son, Gary. So great to see them.

... April 15. Friday. Breakfast afforded a time for a

brief visit and then on toward Houston. Now for a

surprise. WE HAVE REALLY IMPROVED... We got

through Hpuston without spending 2 hours going
around the freeway this time. That is progress!
ACROSS THE SOUTHLAND

...April 16. Saturday. Beaumont, Texas, our next

scheduled stop, was soon home for a few days. We
were greeted on the K-Mart parking lot by Bob

Nichols, who led us to the Washington Boulevard

Christian Church. Melody was extremely content to
rest under a huge shade tree, and we never heard a
word out of her the whole time we were there! Lee

and Marsella Wineinger minister here, and how we

appreciated this marvelous family and their beautiful

hospitality to us. Dinner was wonderful, as was the
9 _"round table" discussion till late.

... April 17. Sunday. Morning worship Tim played a

"teaser" for the people, followed by a time to enjoy
Bob and Helen Nichols, as well as her delicious
cooking. Bob saw to it we connected time-wise to our
next event a concert in a lovely nursing home,
Sabine Oaks. The concert at the church was at 7:00.

Tim gave it all he had.

.. . April 18. Monday. An unscheduled concert was
scheduled, and it truly blessed our lives. A senior group
meets each month at Sour Lake Christian Church (near
Beaumont). Today was the day. Program planned was
unable to be there, so we went. When they learned wc
could go, instead of it being just for Senior Citizens,
they busily called other church folk, and it was a
"family affair." Oh my, the food!!! and the affection
for us was beautiful. What a blessing to our lives!

. .. April 19. Tuesday. Evening was a special time with

new acquaintances, Evelyn and Clifton McGee. Our
eye balls about popped out when we saw NOT reindeer
on the housetop BUT poodles (3)!!!. Clifton has made
dog runs on the roof of their home and garage and
ladders to the runs. The dogs are as agile on the roof as
on the ground, and I assure you it astounds any
passerby. At first sight one might think, "What was in
my coffee or soft drink?" It is absolutely wild. As you
might have guessed, these 3 poodles are a bit spoiled,

but you couldn't NOT love them and spoil them.

Evelyn's gourmet dinner was superb. Tim had a special
attachment to her and Clifton, and all the wonderful
people in Beaumont.
.. . April 20. Wednesday. Crystal and Gary Laidacker,
daughter and son-in-law of the Wineinger's, are
ministering with the Nederland, Texas, Christian
Church in the capacity of assistant minister. Minister,
R.A. Mainord, will be retiring in the near future, and
Gary will become the senior minister. We shared this
evening with these people, lunched afterward with
Crystal and Gary, and then we all went to the
Wineinger's for a time to say "Thank you, God, for
such a blessed week", and another time to say to our
friends, "We're sorry we have to say so long. Never will
we forget all the precious memories and abundant
blessings all have brought into our lives."
.,. April 22. Friday. Well, Louisiana, we are coming.
Hope the high water has all receded! The devastating
floods were just a few days prior to this time. This is
our VERY FIRST time in Louisiana.. .No problems
encountered, and before long, Leonard Navarre,
minister of Calvary Christian Church in Baton Rouge,

was giving us a down south welcome, Mary Eddy

Tackett, publicity chairman, worked diligently, and
one of the things scheduled was a TV interview. We
arrived at 2:00 p.m. Tim played for children in the
school. Interview followed, and then before long, the
concert time had descended upon us. A torrential

... April 23. Saturday. Tim had had a severe allergy

attack getting much worse... We had anticipated
going to Lake, Mississippi. Our friends, the Billie
Nichols family, gave us a 5-star portion of southern
hospitality. They are friends from several years back
and

minister

to

the

Lake Christian Church.

The

beautiful dinner was a family affair. Billie is a

pharmacist by trade. Poor Tim was nearly down flat
with the allergy. Billie started fixing Tim up. Some
pills and to bed.

.. . April 24. Sunday. Much better in the morning.

Some more medicine and to church. Hm! That stuff

sure does do something to my eyelids. I can't keep

them open! We sang, he accompanied but with little
knowledge of what he was doing. A solo next, but the
bombastic Tim saved his energy for the evening. (He
did get awake!) A fun time at a smorgasboard
followed. Tim ate in his sleep, so best place was bed,
and by evening sleep had made all the difference in the
world. He gave the concert his all, and the people were
so generous with their response. A packed house and a
joyous occasion followed in the beautiful reception. A
piano player and a runny nose aren't compatible!
.. . April 25. Monday. An early start... Tim still feels
badly. Sleep is best medicine. The highways are radiant
with dogwoods blooming. A sight to behold!!
TENNESSEE WALTZ

... April 26. Tuesday. Across into Tennessee rest

office work laundry hair cuts, etc.
.. . April 27. Wednesday. Arrived at Mission Services in
Knoxville. Love that Ray family Gwen, Howard,
and daughter, Sharlotte. Lunch was waiting for us, and
Ethelyne and Clarence Linsenbigler, friends from my
home church in North Industry (Canton), Ohio, were
there. Boy, did we TALK! We thrilled at the facilities
of Mission Services, and as always, praised God for this
ministry and its dedicated workers. The afternoon was
gone! Time for concert at the Woodlawn Christian
Church in Knoxville. What a tremendous reception. We
had the pleasure, finally, of meeting J. O. Pierson, a
brother in Christ whose ministry is devoted to the
mentally handicapped. The Special Class in this church
honored Tim with a beautiful boutonniere. He was

thrilled! We had corresponded with Brother Pierson

and looked forward to meeting him. Today was the
day. The emotions of the day and hour left us
exhausted, and a quiet time with the Ray's at the
Sizzler, and food for stomach and soul truly filled us
with energy needed to drive on to Milligan College,
Tennessee. We found our way by God's guidance
(surely NOT ours), and at 1:30 a.m. told Melody she
could rest her weary self, too. Tim still weary with
allergy. Mine is taking over in a great way, too!

.. . April 28. Thursday. Convocation at Milligan

College was at 9:20. The kids responded with such
enthusiasm. Next off to Elizabethton, Tennessee, just a
few miles away. Rodney and Kathleen Marshall are the

downpour had been taking place, but the crowd was

great, and the time of refreshments that followed was
again a wonderful opportunity to learn to know so
many.

Melody after the service.

Kathleen Marshall cooked it because of a physical

the calendar says so. That means I sign off. I'd love to

STILL WALTZING THROUGH TENNESSEE

GLEANINGS WITH MEANINGS

My Daddy was such a very special person. How fortunate we

kids were to have such a dad (and mother, too). He taught

through his eyes, his hands, and his face. I don't recall that he

ever spanked me (He left that up to mother.), but he got his

message across. I guess I was considered spoiled, but then I

don't apologize as I didn't raise me; my parents and brother and

sister did! Gotta blame it on someone. ... At any rate. Daddy
would GIVE me anytliing he possibly could and DO anything
almost that I asked him to do. One evening we sat on the back
porch, and it was so very hot. Daddy had worked so hard all
day, and in my child-like way, I was bugging him. I wanted

$1.00 to go with a friend, Loma, to go get candy. After a

continuous round of "PLEASE, Daddy," and lots of HUGS and

KISSES, he took his battered billfold from his pocket andsaid,

"Sweet Potatoe (his nickname for me), I would give you any
thing I have if I could, but I don't have any money." I
remember so vividly the look in his face and the love in his eyes.

How many times since I have grown that I have thought of how
my Heavenly Father has given all He had (HIS SON, JESUS)
and how I must BUG Him and seem so ungrateful. I constantly
pray that I am worthy of His love, mercy, and grace....
Philippians 3:8 through the end of the chapter.

Number 2

... May 1. Tennessee was our location at the close of our last

newsletter. It was a wonderful beginning of a new month as we

closed the evangelistic meeting at the Southside Christian

Church in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Rodney Marshall (minister)

John Qark, and Jerry were off at the early hour of 7:00a.m. to
a Gideon Prayer Breakfast. Tim said he'd rather SLEEP, A

savory table was spread, following the morning worship service.

What "DOWN SOUTH" dishes do for a growling tummy. All
too soon then it was evening, and Tim's concert closed our time

with these beautiful people. Farewell's always seem to be sad,

and this was NO exception.
... May 2. Rodney invited Jerry to attend the ministers' area

breakfast... and after they returned, we told Melody her nice

rest was over for a little while, and away we went.

... May 3. The last night of the meeting (Sunday, the first),
Tim developed a very red and swollen (on the top)left hand. Ii
was very painful as he played his concert. Treatment on Mon

day saw no improvement. We hurried to Lexington, Kentucky,

for our next concert. Dick Carpenter, minister, is a dearfriend

of many years. For around 16 years he ministered to my home

church, so we knew he would help us find a good doctor, and
he did.

IN THE BEAUTIFUL KENTUCKY BLUEGRASS COUNTRY

tomorrow.

... May 5, It is severe "tendonitis". Medicine and LESS playing

until the hand improves, the doctor said. He said Tim could go
ahead with the scheduled concerts unless it hurt too bad.

Medication and treatment followed. A lot of improvement

(redness and some swelling gone) was seen by Sunday...
.. . May 8. MOTHER'S DAY, Found our day with Broadway
Christian Church in Lexington one of real joy. We THRILLED
at hearing Dick preach again; it had been so long. He was always
good, but now is great! Lunch with Dick and his wife, Eileen,
and their sons, David and Steven, and Steven's wife, Beth Ann.
These boys were just kids the last time we saw them, so it was a
joy to see them and learn of their lives and how wonderfully
God has blessed the whole family. Tim thrilled at the love and
response of the evening's concert. The massive auditorium and
lovely grand had him primed just right for the moments thai
followed.

... May 9. A newspaper ad led us out to Lexton Records. . .

(More on this in July.) After being there a great share of the

morning, we had a hurried lunch and went with George Butler,
Minister of Music at Broadway Christian, to tlie Bluegrass
School for the Mentally Handicapped. We thrilled at tlus lovely
facility, and Tim had a lot of fun with the kids. They sang all
the hymns at the top of their voices! Tlie evening hours were
spent at another facility in Lexington for the mentally handi
capped also, called Excepticon. It is a large residential facility.
Tim was hot, as there was a lot of plate glass and the bright sun
of the late afternoon shone through. He HATES to be warm
when he plays but went ahead, and the kids brought the house
down. More singing at the top of their voices, and then many
found their way up to the piano, still singing, while others
danced to the beautiful hymns. Jerry and I sat there witli tears
dotting our cheeks and knowing the meaning of Psalms 149:3,
"Let them praise His name with DANCING." "We love you,
Tim," and "please come back" rang out, and then it was time to
go. I sat beside a beautiful, young girl who craved conversation.
I was drawn to the beauty of her face. In the course of our
conversation, she said, "I've been here so long and have no
friends or family that come." Her parents placed her there and
have not returned in all these many years. I wanted to take her
with us so badly. The staff members said she could function in
society with little problem, but she had no one or no place. She

a beautiful young mother, Nancy's parents were there in Fairfield, so we had a wonderful reunion over dinner with them,
Nancy and Tim, David and Shiriey and their son, Steve. Steve
and Tim became very close friends. He is such an amiable young
man who also has a mental disability. Really had to watch the
clock as it would have been so easy to keep visiting and miss the
concert! More wonderful surprises when more dear friends sort

of came out of the woodwork. A classmate in college, Dorothy

Schmale, and a minister friend of so many years. Barton
McElroy, were at

the

concert. This

was an EXCITING

EVENING in every way. An after concert let-your-hairdown time was over at the Phillips, and we enjoyed the
video-cassette of FANTASY (where Tim meets and plays a duet
with Liberace). It was time to close a long and wonderful day!
... May 12. Still at Fairfield.... the evening was a joyous time
at the church's Mother and Daughter Banquet. They asked Tim
to play for it. Shirley Phillips (minister's wife) was the speaker.
This charming and gracious woman challenged ALL to be
GREATER Christian women. I'm so glad I was there.
... May 13. Need to be MOVIN' on today, but some printing is
a must. Betty and Sandy, church secretaries at Fairfield, said
they would HELP. That they did. We were so thankful and
grateful. Dr. and Mrs. Stanley were most concerned about Tim's
STILL ailing hand. Better, but not all right yet. He spent time
in treating it during his noon hour. What Christian love! We had
grown to love all tliese people so much, but next concert was
calling. Melody found her way easily over to New Richmond,

Ohio, (not very far to go). We were given a royal welcome by

the minister of the New Richmond Church of Christ, Rob Ford,
and church secretary, Darlene. Rob made sure Melody was
content, and then saw to it that a boy whose hunger pangs were
overwhelming had relief. What an evening to follow this de
lightful meal. A very large crowd for a Friday night, and Tim's
energy was back after tlie food, so all went well, and the
reception that followed showed the artist's ability in a beautiful
cake made for Tim. They gave us ONE for the road, too, and

XT

praised the church that took about 150 of them to services each
week, and I thanked God for this, too.

... May 10. A bit of a visit with Dick and Eileen Carpenter and
some friends who were formerly from tlie Canton area, Sherriell
Storey, also Bill and Kate Riddle who used to live in my
hometown. It was a great surprise to see all of them and have a
brief visit. Soon we were on our way again. Jerry found an RV
garage to get a new fuel filter, and in checking Melody over the

mechanic found out her universal joint was about to give up the
^ost again, so we were detained until they could get one from
Lexington. How we thanked God for the mechanic who found

this. Soon, we were merrily on our way and happy that Melody
felt better.
SHORT STOP IN OHIO

... May 11. Fairfield, Ohio, next stop. What ajoy when I found
out that the minister and his wife, David and Shirley Phillips,
were OLD college mates. Also, tlie youth minister, Tim Heck,
said, "My wife is Nancy Pace," (daughter of Talmage and Irene
Pace). Nancy was a young girl when we saw her last and now is

also a HUGE decorated chocolate chip cookie which said

"WELCOME TIM BALEY". What ajoy to have a former college

professor and his wife to come. Professor and Mrs. Carver. The

years have been so good to them!

First Christian. Tim played a sort of teaser for the forthcoming

concert, then a hasty but pleasant lunch with the Ritter family.
A newspaper interview was scheduled prior to a concert for the
Association of Retarded Citizens of Sandusky, which was
scheduled for 2:00 p.m. We had corresponded and talked with
the ARC Executive Director, Kay Mackey, and NOW we were
privileged to meet this charming woman. Though the crowd was
not as large as they had hoped, it could not have been more

... May 14. A long day of travel today, so got our bones up
early, even beat the chickens. (Second thought, maybe there
weren't any.) Our eyes beheld beautiful Michiana Christian
Service Camp where Jerry and Melody stopped. Robert Mallett,
camp manager, saw to it immediately that we were fixed up,
and then it was soon time for the meal and program of the
evening for which we had come (a sort of camp rally for the
youth). It had been another LONG, Hard, but wonderful day!
... May 15. We found the cold, cloudy morning was dispelled

responsive. A stop in a restaurant after and what did Tim see

except a PIANO. His curiosity got the best of him, and soon he
knew the history of this GEM. It was a natural thing to play it,

in the cozy kitchen as we had breakfast with the Mallett's. On

to Elkhart, Indiana, Church of Christ. A year ago we accidently

happened into this church as we were in Elkhart to have Melody
worked on at the factory there. We immediately feel in love
with those people. Genuine Christian friends were made, and we
said, "We'll come for a concert next time we come through."
This was the day! We were fed spiritually by Bob Hargraves
after Tim's concert, and then a "Care-E-In" dinnerfor physical
nourishment followed. I thought at first we were in a Safeway.
There was food EVERYWHERE! That gave us the the pizzaz to

and as a result, we can say Tim truly played for his supper!
Evening services followed, and then our hostess, so to speak,

(the lady who was instrumental in our going to Sandusky)

Virginia Duff, and others had a friendly time at "FRIENDLY'S
Ice Cream Parlor". A sweet ending for this perfect day.
... May 23. Virginia came and took us to the Sanduslq^ Senior
Center. We were so impressed with this beautiful faciUty, and
the superb meal was just the ticket. A brief site-seeing trip and
then preparation for the coming evening. The men of the

scurry over to Granger, Indiana. Harris Prairie Church of Christ

was easy to find, and we were welcome at the home of Dan

church (headed by Preacher Jim Irby) outdid themselves pre

Crosley, associate minister. The responsiveness of these people

TURNED Tim ON, and it was a great experience. Back to the
Don Grain's home (minister at the Elkhart Church), and there

paring the meal tiiey served the ladies. Tim's concert and the
rest of the program followed. Thus our time in Sandusky came
to a dose, and we have such fond memories!

was FOOD AND FRIENDS. A wonderful finale to a fantastic

AT HOME WITH GRANDMA BRECHBUHLER FOR A BIT

day.

... May 24. Tim was chompin' at the bit this morning! We were
getting awful close to Canton, Ohio, and he could hardly wait
to see Grandma and the family. The tendonitis had still not
cleared up as well as it should have, so a stop in Ashland, Ohio,
to have nephew. Dr. Stan Brechbuhler (orthopedic surgeon)

MELODY GETS A GOING OVER AT HER BIRTHPLACE

... May 16. Melody routed us out of bed so she could get to
her doctor's appointment at 7:00 a.m.... Journey Motorhome
Factory is a place that is running over with kindness, and they
made us welcome for the next three days! We were plugged in
and at home right there on the parking lot, and the Journey
people were "family" in the days that followed. Hm ended up

take a look. It would relieve Mom and Dad a whole lot. It's a

joy to go to a doctor when they are as knowledgeable and dear

to you as Stan is to us. With a bucket full of pills and advice, we
were then on the last lap to Grandma's. Hm asked Dad if he
couldn't PEDAL just a little faster. We were soon there, and
Grandma and food were waiting. Brother Wayne and wife,"
Elizabeth, and Grandma and us all piled in the car a little later
to celebrate our homecoming by going to Milk 'N' Honey Ice
Cream Parlor. That place can do you in.

giving numerous mini-concerts for most of the employees. Bob

Hargraves was preaching an evangelistic meeting at the Elkhart

Church, so we were able to attend the two evenings we were
there, and that was NICE! We found wonderful new friends

eveiy place we went, and among them were Bonnie and George
Derr and Gay and Bill Gaddy. On Tuesday noon and evening
they took care of the hunger pangs, and we feasted, too, on the
fellowship with them. God's people are so wonderful to us

A CONCERT QRCLE IN OHIO

everywhere....

... May 25. Melody is perkin' but not like she should. Brothers
have shop and mechanic that will help her. Work that we
thought was done in El Paso had NOT been touched, and we
wondered how we made it to OHIO without problems. Again
we thanked God for seeing us through. Another Mother and
Daughter Banquet was scheduled this evening at the OrrvUle
Church of Christ. Another hu^ crowd and a church with two
grand pianos really excited Tim. He had a REAL problem

... May 18. Melody was done at the Journey factory, so after a
final concert there on the "Journey" parking lot, we tried to
say THANK-YOU for the kindnesses all had shown us in every
way and said, "See you," and we were off to the Muffler's

Unlimited for a final stop in Elkhart. A new muffler and tail

pipe, and Melody said, "Let's be on our way now."
PLEASANT EXPERIENCES IN NORTHERN OHIO

he wanted to play them both at once! Besides thajoy of being

.. . May 21. Arrived in Sandusky, Ohio, and the beginning of

there, we were pleasantly surprised that there were dear friends

whom we had not seen in years Max and Ethel McLaughlin,
Ethel's son, Bob, and wife, Joan, Welker and their children,
sisters of two of my college roormnates, and former nei^bors
of my parent's in North Industry. It was home with Joan and
Bob after the concert, and we finally made it to bed before it

another glorious time with the First Christian Church there. Jim

and Faye Irby serve this congregation, and it was a renewal of a

friendsWp from yeais past to one that has grown to be so
precious. We wonder why Tim is such a CLOWN, and then we
say with all the people he meets (such as Jim) we KNOW why.
What a time! We marvelled at the BLUEHOLE in Castillia,
Ohio, just outside of Sandusky. Tim was fascinated and asked a
million questions concerning this hole that seems to have NO
bottom. The ladies of the Sandusl^ church had invited us for
their Mother and Dau^ter Banquet, whichwas to be May 23rd,
so we came for the Sunday. The big church lot had lots of room

was time to get up.

... May 26. Late to bed and early to rise. On our way to
Columbus, Ohio. What a welcome we received from Rick Ruble,
minister of music of the Indianola Church of Christ. A Colum

bus Dispatch photographer met us at the church and photo

graphed Tim for a newspaper article. The interview was done via
telephone several days earlier. From there we zipped over to the

for Melody, so we had it made.

... May 22. We were in for a GREAT day. Worship services at

-

Ohio Historical Society and Village where Tim was to play for
15

the "Central Ohio Veiy Special Arts Festival". This was a

festival where many, many talented handicapped people partici

pated. Every kind of art imaginable was displayed or demon
strated, WHAT A THRILL to see what had been accomplished.
There were over 1400 there. Hm gave a i^hour concert. It was
a joy to meet Rick's wife, Debby, in the evening as we had
dinner at "Chi Chi's". The Mexican food could not have been
better!

... May 27. A visit to the Beechwold Church of Christ where

Tim played for the Tree of Life School students. A brief visit
with the diurch's minister, Dm Benton. Concert followed, then
a quick lunch and back to the Very Special Arts Festival. A
most delightful experience was Tim's as he was privileged to
play today on a BOX GRAND PIANO that was made in 1860.

Center in Mt. Vemon where Tim played for the clients. We were
so impressed with this fine center not just the beauty of the
architecture but the beautiful spirit of the caring staff. A
pre-concert dinner with the liming family, concert at 7:30 and
after, the Liming's opened their hearts and home for a time of
relaxation.

... June 3. Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, Mt. Gilead, Ohio,

was only a stone's throw by way of a crow, so we had no reason
to hurry. Don and Norma Neumeister have labored here success
fully and have led this congregation over 25 years. Don met us
at iJie diurch, and we drove to the Whetstone School, a public
special education school, first class in every way. Norma had a
delicious spaghetti diimer waiting, and then the concert fol
lowed at the church. A SPECTACULAR TABLE surprised us

ji>
It still had the original works. What a lovely instrument. Tim
.said, "Oh, to have a piano like that!"

.,. May 29. Up and on our way to Dayton, Ohio, and the
Church of Christ of East Dayton. Bob and Shirleen Hanze,
friends since childhood (Bob and I were raised in the same
hometown and church together.), greeted us. Tim played for
the morning worship and then a pleasant and relaxing afternoon
at Bob and Shirleen's. Soon time for the 6:00 p.m. concert, and
Tim's energy level needed replenished with FOOD, so Shirleen

after the concert of the evening. The ladies of the church served
beautiful refreshments (Some cookies were made like the
musical staff.), and around the table was a skirt that was made
like a piano keyboard. Above the keys were spaced all sorts of
musical motifs, such as rests, notes, sharps, flats, etc. A little
centerpiece was a staff and written thereon was "In My Heart
There Rings a Melody". The lady who did the work did not

took care of that, and we all had a grand time.

... May 30. MEMORIAL DAY. Up and ready to leave. Melody

said, "I'm not up to it." Her battery had lost ALL its spark!!!
Bob and his son, Tim, coaxed her out of DEPRESSION with
jumper cables, and soon we were on our way HUNTING a place
to get a battery on a holiday. It is NOT easy on a holiday. The
Lord took over though, and as we ate lunch, a man and his wife
next to our table struck up a conversation and in its course told
us of a 24-hour place. So if you are ever in Springfield, Ohio, on
a holiday and need a battery, there IS a place that never closes!
Ihis perked Melody up, and away we went.
... June 1. Marysvilie Christian Church, Marysville, Ohio, was
our destination. Preacher David Winner and wife, Priscilla, are
to be commended for the fine work they are doing here. Didn't
think we would know anyone at this concert here, but we were
pleasantly surprised, and the time of fellowship after afforded
time to visit.

... June 2. Off to Fredericktown, Ohio, to the Palmyra Church

of Christ. Though we had never met, we felt like the minister,
Steve Liming, and his wife, Sharon, were life-long friends
through our correspondence. Steve took us to the New Hope

ARTIST who did this masterpiece was Darleen Edmundsen. It

was STUNNING, and how Aoughtful it was. Darleen auto
graphed the table cover, and we have kept it for posterity. A
terrific evening, even though the weather was miserably rainy.
16-

... June 5. We truly were going in circles, as today we were

back in Columbus with the Indianola Church of Christ. This is a

A DAY WITH THE AMISH PEOPLE

repeat visit and concert, and we love these people and their
minister and wife, Jim and Edna Walker, so very much. It was a
full day that included morning services and a huge diimer at
noon. My nephew, Jim Brechbuhler, his girlfriend and her
parents, also Mrs. Fuller and Martha Nielsen, both dear, dear
people from my hometown, were among this sensitive, vibrant
audience. Three standing ovations showed the love and response
to Tim's efforts this night. We left with joy, tremendous thanks
giving, and humbleness of heart. ... Edna and Jim led the way
to "Bob Evan's", and reminiscence of the past days unfolded.
.,. June 6. Our workshop "God's Neglected Children" was held
from 10:00 a.m- to 3:00 p.m. After a time of visiting and
discussion, we were highway bound to mother's (Canton), and
it was a good trip. Cool and cloudy.
... June 7. The next days were busy with office work, family,
friends, and preparation for the days aliead. Jerry saw to
Melody's needs, and I managed to keep busy.

... June 17. Wayne and Betty wanted to take Tim to Amish
Country. We all piled in the car and headed for Millersburg and
the surrounding area. Tim's eyes beheld a 10,000 (TEN THOU
SAND) pound mound of cheese! He asked Uncle Wayne a
million questions and sampled nearly every sample of cheese
they make. He could not quite accept chocolate cheese, even
though he is a chocoholic. Next, he learned about all there was
to know about the building and rebuilding of buggys. The A &
D Buggy Shop was fascinating. We were ready for the delightful
lunch that soon came at the beautiful new "Inn at Honey Run".
This was a hard place to leave, but it seemed we needed to head
to Canton.... We had a concert set for Springwood RV Camp
ground. This being a return concert made it especially nice to
see the folk again. Jannie and Delbert Plaskett, friends for
always, are there and spearheaded the efforts. It was a good
day!

... June 11. Homesworth (Ohio) Bluegrass Festival a first

for Tim to play. Numerous people had said, "Tim must go to

... June 19. FATHER'S DAY... Back down to Springwood

Camp where Jerry brought the morning message for the
campers. We did a mini-concert, also some singing, and Tim
played a few songs... This evening was Tim's concert for the
home church, North Industry Christian Church, and we sure say
they weren't selfish with their ardent response. How we thrilled
at the vast crowd and MANY friends we had not seen in years.
Numerous teachers I had had in high school and some I had not
seen since then came. They all looked so wonderful and ageless.
... June 20. A busy day of preparation to begin travelling

one of these." Arrangements were made, and we were there.

The man in charge said to Jerry, "Can we help you set up?"
Jerry told him we didn't have anything to set up. Surprise!!!
They thought we had our own piano (We do, bolted down in
the motorhome.), and we assumed they had one! Don't need to
tell you the rest. Effort was made to bring out a small organ,
BUT it was too small, and Tim is not an organist. So after four
numbers, we gave it up and said, "'Twas good to have been
here." They were disappointed, and of course, we were too.
... June 12. Our morning to be with the home church (North
Industry Christian Church, Canton, Ohio). So very good to see
everyone, and Rod Huron (minister) is always a blessing to us.
Jerry and I sang. Lunch with lots of friends and family, and
then it was soon time to be on our way to "Little Country
Church" in Waynesburg, Oh. Ended up at brother Wayne's and
his wife, Betty's.
...June 15. A TV interview with Sherry Lee (She's a real
angel.) at 2:00, and then an interview with a local newspaper
followed that. It was a good but tiring afternoon.
... June 16. Tim's birthday was just around the comer. We had
a big family reunion at brother Clyde's and his wife, Wanda's,
home. We had everyone who lives in the area there except
nephew Stan (the doctor). That is a real accomplishment, as the
family has increased in size so much.

... June 18. Newspaper interview and practice for concert on

the morrow.

again. It seemed we took two steps forward and three back

wards. .. but by bedtime we were getting there!

... June 21. Time to say "Adios", and that isn't to our liking,
but we were soon off and away. As we were traveling to New

Jersey, we stopped at Hatboro, Pennsylvania, where we finally

met John and Edna Massimilla. We had talked to them on the

phone, but this was our first personal meeting. Edna is the
author of the poem "Heaven's Very Special Child". After a
short visit with them it was on to Scotch Plains, New Jersey.
A REUNION DM NEW JERSEY

... June 23. Arrived at Scotch Plains, New Jersey, and were
met by Dexter Williams (minister of Church of Christ), his wife,
Evalee, and daughter, Debby. We had a wonderful reunion...
That sure helped smooth over the thoughts we have had about
the ROUGH highways in our country! Can't believe some of
them, and between Ohio and New Jersey WHOEE!!! Worst
part is you PAY to get on them. We had a BIG celebration.
Today is Evalee and Dexter's 35th anniversary and Tim's 31st
birthday. We seemed oblivious to bedtime as we caught up on
the past...
... June 24. We were in Scotch Plains for a week-end evan

gelistic meeting. Tim presented a full concert to begin. These

people endeared themselves to us, and we were off to a
wonderful beginning.

... June 25. An afternoon concert for various groups of men

tally handicapped at the church in the afternoon. ITiere was a
black boy in the group who was blind as well as mentally
handicapped. We were told he loved to sing and he played the
organ some too. When Tim finished the concert, we asked the

young man if he would sing for us. I only wish you might have
been thrilled as we were as he sang "Amazing Grace" and Tim
accompanied him. Talk about something tugging at your heart

strings... We enjoyed the young people so very much and the

staff that came with them. Over to the home of Joe and Sharon

Harron (formerly of Canton felt like they had to be KIN),

^ere they and linda and Stan Armitage serveda meal fit for a
king. Back to the diurch for the evening service. Many new
people and another group of handicapped people came. It was a

great SATURDAY NIGHT. We had a^orious day in every way.

... June 26. Services of the morning (Jerry preached, we sang,

and Tim played.) were followed with a pot-luck dinner. The
southern ladies are praised for their cooking, but let me tell you
New Jersey takes NO back seat! We hated to see evening come
because after that we would be closing out our stay in Scotch
Plains. If was a real climax to three WONDERFUL DAYS, and
there was no way around tearful farewells. Already we are

anticipating our retum for another meeting next year. It is our

prayer God allows this in our lives.
OFF TO TOE "BIG APPLE'
NEW YORK aTY
AND SOME ANXIOUS MOMENTS

... June 27. A day for FUN. Never been to New York City, so
the Williams said, "Can we take you?" We jumped at the
diance. The rapid transit train was very close to their home. We
patronized it. Within a very short time, we were in New York
City. A subway was the best transportation to get to the World
Trade Center. Dexter and Jeriy had gotten the tokens, but they
were trying to find out where we should get off... Tim and I
had our tokens in hand. A woman who seemed to think that

EVERYONE ought to know just shouted angrily at me

"You know it is the second stop-CANAL STREET." I looked
at her with amazement, and Tim and I stepped ahead. The door
to the subway was open, and we got on. "Die second we did, it
flew diut! Jerry and the Williams's were NOT with us. My heart
sank. Hm said, "MOM, they aren't on!" I said, "Tim, WE aren't
OFF." My only thought then was, "Thank you, LORD, for the
angry lady who blurted out, *YOU KNOW, it is the second stop,
CANAL STREET.'" Well, I hadn't known, but she saved our
day! Soon we exited, and on the next subway Jerry, Evalee,
Dexter, and Debbie came zipping along, and we LIVED
HAPPILY ALL DAY LONG. With the party all together now,
we took in all that we could in a short time, starting at the top
of the World Trade Center (The beauty of the dty, the stateliness of the Statue of Liberty, the harbor through a light fog,
and just everything was an awsome site.), on to the Empire
State Building, followed by a trudge through Macy's, lunch in

Chinatown, and ending up, as we returned homeward, in Penn

Station. Contending with the heat, some of the filth of the city,
the scary subway ride, etc. seemed insignificant as we marvelled
at the history and vastness of the structures, and were impressed
that we are Americans living in freedom! And though we realize
our country has weaknesses, we say "Thank you, God, for
blessing America." Can't tell you how good a bed felt that
night.
... Jiine 29. Got Melody up and said we needed to be moving
toward Illinois, but she said her STARTER hurt. In all fairness
to her and to keep her happy, we got her a new one. After that
she was most agreeable and took off, but she was sad to leave
the comfort of a huge shade tree, and we always regret saying
good-bye. Hopefully we'll c-u next year.
... Later, same day. A day of travel and into a campground
>A^ch was nearly unoccupied as far as human beings are con
cerned. A note said, "Pick your spot." There were lots of
vehicles, but not a soul around, so we found the only available
spot, and a CAR was in it. I went to the trailer that was by it
and knocked..; A grizzly old man came to the door. "Sir,
would you kindly move your car so we can get our motorhome

in this spot?", I asked. I was NOT prepared for his answer... "I
don't want to, BUT I will.. I've worked hard all day, and you
are bothering me. I have to shave, so I can eat." With a not very
pleasant look and shaving cream on his face, he hot-roddedYds
car out, and Jerry parked. I said, "Thank you very much," but
he didn't even look at me! I wondered WHY he was so angry at
me.

A BANG UP FOURTH IN ILLINOIS

... July 2. We had such a pleasant experience as we were

welcomed in Bridgeport, Illinois, First Christian Church. Don
and Anita Renner are very special people who minister here.
They have two lovely children, Amos and Marilyn, and they
ALL wound themselves around our hearts. Don led us to Rosie

and Marlin Gray's spacious backyard, and Melody thought it

was perfect as it was complete with water, electric, and sewer
hook-ups. The next days were full of happiness and joy. Hm
thought it was pretty neat that there was another Rosie (my
nickname). Marlin and Jerry settled Melody in, and then we had
a leisurely dinner, and after the torrid heat of the day, it was
truly perfect.
... July 3. The services of the morning with Don Renner's
sermon were infused with inspiration. Home with the Renner's,
and though the sewer had backed up in the parsonage basement
while the family was at church, Anita cahnly served a LARIPIN'
good chicken dirmer. Afternoon passed quickly into evening,
and a gentle rain cooled things a bit. Tim's concert left us with a
feeling we were on HIGH C. What a responsive people. Rosie,

full of motherly instincts, KNEW Tim was famisiied, so we all

congregated for pizza.

... July 4. We had such a nice 4th of July. We chose not to

travel on this day. Since we were not pressed for time, we
enjoyed the day with Marlin and Rosie. A cookout in the
evening and then to Vincennes, Indiana, to view the fireworks.
The finale of the day was Texas Sheet Cake and HOMEMADE
ice cream. That sure wasn't hard to take.

... July 5. The highway was calling, and it was a cool morning,
so not quite so hard to say good-bye... Well, we thought we
would be going! Left Marlin and Rosie's and went to the post
office, but Melody just wasn't up to traveling. Seemed that old
starter (even thou^ only ONE WEEK old) didn't do its thing.
Well, Marlin and Amos Rermer put on another starter and
starter relay switch, and in the mid-afternoon, we were fmally
on our way.

BACK IN KENTUCKY

... July 6. Arrived at the beautiful KENTUCKY HORSE PARK

(a campground) in Lexington, Kentucky.

... July 7. On into FS Productions. You will remember Tim
having tendonitis and our going to Lexington on May 5. At that
time I had a bit of time to read the paper. One of my THINGS
is to read the want ads to see what pianos are listed for sale. In
this column was an ad for PROFESSIONAL RECORDING...

Many, many people have asked, "When is Tim going to have a

new album?" WE have prayed earnestly about this for a year
and a half. The financial picture was the greatest detriment!
Besides the person who works with Tim needs to have some
very special qualities. We had made numerous inquiries. This
one led us to the FS Productions and Jimmy Donavan (his stage
name We call him Fred.). Fred has a long, varied, and
impressive background in music playing with Harry James,
producing, and writing music. He knows his way around and is
well acquainted with many stars and recording artists. He has
hung his hat for many years in Nashville (Music Square) and has
18-

worked in and out of the city. We were privileged to see two of

his musicals in Opryland "I Hear America Singing" and
"Sing, Tennessee, Sing". Both were fantastic. "Sing, Tennessee,
Sing" was featured at the World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee.
In Las Vegas, Nevada, he has an afternoon matinee playing at
the CIRCUS CIRCUS HOTEL, which is a family oriented hotel
for ages 6 to 90.
COMFORTABLE IN OUR OLD KENTUCKY MOTORHOME

... Our time in Lexington and the cutting of the tape left us
with many unspoken reservations and questions. We would have
to park the motorhoine considerable distance from the studio.
Transportation would be a problem, and all this would cost and
be somewhat unhandy. We consistantly prayed for the Lord to
lead us and guide us in these matters, and tlien we continued
asking him to resolve our problems. When the final plans were
made for us to go, Fred said, "Come to the studio, and we'll
just drop a cord out for your electricity." Water and restrooms
were available. We could hardly believe the simplicity of this
and Fred's kindness. We arrived at the studio mid-morning. Fred
greeted us, and soon we were at home for the next few weeks.
After we were hooked up, Fred said, "You'll need a car," and
gave Jerry the keys to a Lincoln Continental, and in it was a
telephone! So that we could keep abreast of our work and
phone calls, he said, "We'll just run a phone out to the motorhome." So we were really set with all that was needed (includ
ing a laundromat, grocery, drugstore, and mailbox within a few
feet). What more could you ask for? A bit of time remained in
the afternoon, and Tim and Fred and Jerry started what ended
up to be many hours of hard work!!! Our friends, the John Paul
Biiiter's, formerly of El Paso, are now living in Lexington. We
drove out and had dinner and spent a nice evening with them.

... July 10. Fred picked us up and took us to the church he

attends, Revival Tabernacle, Byron Jessup, minister. Tim played
for the worship service. We had our lunch, and then Fred
wanted to take Tim to a horse farm. We drove out to the

Spendthrift Farm, and though it was closed to the public, Fred

was friends with some people involved with the farm, and we
got to go in. Our eyes beheld a horse that was worth 14^A

million dollars!! That was hard to imagine! Back to the

home and made ourselves ready to go for a concert
Flatwoods Christian Church, Waco, Kentuclq^, Jackie
minister. We and the Biiiter's enjoyed the ride. It was
but nice experience.

WORK AND PLAY AT RCA

... July 13. Had traveled to Nashville early this morning and
met Fred and his daughter, Vera Lynn, at a motel. From there
we went to the RCA recording studio. First, had a tour of the

original studio where all the albums were made. (Stars such as
Elvis Presley, Chet Atkins, and Floyd Cramer recorded here.) A
new, more advanced studio, called STUDIO A, has taken its

place. Then we went to STUDIO A, and preparationwasmade

for Tim to record. The LOVELY grandpiano and elegant studio
and just the surroundings were very excitingto Tim (in fact, to
ALL of us), and he was raring to go. Bill, the man who is on the

the breakfast smorgasboard. Soon we found ourselves lost in the

beauty and peacefulness of the Cumberland River as Fred
guided the boat up the river. The day on the boat was a first for

Tim and the first time on a houseboat for Jerry and me.

control board, and has been for 21 years, is a very kind and
special person. He has done the board work for all the stars. We
appreciated his kindly and understanding attitude. The session
went very well, and much progress was made. Plans were made
to return to finish.

... July 14. Fred thought all work and no play makes Tim a
dull boy! He wanted him to see and know Nashville. A nice
breakfast and soon we were at Opryland, I previously wrote of
the two musicals Fred had playing here. We were privileged to
enjoy them both, then on to see "For Me and My Gal". In
between the shows, we walked about the beautifully landscaped
and perfectly manicured grounds! It was simply exquisite. Into
the GRAND OLE OPRY HOUSE and soon we were entertained

by "Box Car Willie". Our merriment at Opryland was now over,

and we

followed Fred to his houseboat on beautiful Lake

Barkley. We got in under the line (10:00 p.m.) to enjoy the late
buffet. Though it was closing time, the buffet was as full and
beautiful as when it opened. We dropped off to sleep in Melody,

Couldn't have been more perfect, and what a way to beat the
heat. Back to shore and then back to Lexington. After Fred
took us in his car (We parked Melody.) to get a quick view of
Kentucky Lake, he just happened to find some super home
made ice cream. Well, Lexington was at the end of the highway
when we got there at 1:00 a.m.
... July 17. We visited with the Gardenside Christian Church in
Lexington this morning. Tim played for worship and also for
Children's Church. Hopefully we will be able to return at a later
date for a full concert and become better acquainted with the
minister, Robert Ellenberger, and these fine people. Evening
found us in Martin, Kentucky, with the Martin Church of

Christ. This was a return concert, and we truly anticipated going

back. Because of the time sdiedule in Lexington, we drove back
right after the concert, so will visit with the Roger Madden's
(minister) and all there tlie next time. Cecil and Nadine Conley
filled our great need for a bite to eat. Rest before the concert
and we were ready to go. A power outage gave Tim a first a
TOTAL concert with candles only. The temperature, already to
the point of a sizzle, didn't really need the additional heat from
the flames. A torrential downpour on the way back to Lex
ington made us wonder would we be able to go on, but shortly
we were out of it and back on the RIGHT side of the high
way!!! That's not the kind of driving I like. Would rather
GREYHOUND did that.

.. . July 18. A quick lunch with Dick and Eileen Carpenter and
more of the same (album work).
RED LETTER DAY - TAPING COMPLETED

... July 19. Fred came in his Umousine at 9:00 a.m., and after
lunch we were back at RCA. The recording for the album was
finished by 5:00 p.m. Fred was pleased at the ease with which it
went,

as she was hooked up along the shore, and Fred and Vera Lyrm

things of 1950 were old. (He was bom in 1952!) We arrived

back in Lexington by 7:30 p.m. and thanked God for the
wonderful experiences and safe trips He had given us. The
tremendous heat really saps your energy. No wonder 110 is hot!
... July 22. Some final tidbits to finish up on the album... A
quick trip to Versailles, Kentucky, (a few miles out of Lexing

ton) to a houseboat Fredhas, and a view of the Kentucky River

from there. The stillness of the evening was compatible with the
stillness of the water! What a beautiful, peaceful site.
... July 23. Things were all wrapped up as far as our part of the
album was concerned. That which remains is for Fred to write

the orchestration, and then they wall record it with Tim*s

playing. It is necessary to have a special orchestration written
because Tim's meter varies from the NORM. Fred wanted to do

the orchestration himself, and we are thrilled and most anxious

to hear the final product. We left Lexington, heading for Hart

ford, Kentucky, and as we traveled, we pondered over the past
weeks. How God had led us to Fred, opening the many doors
that led us there, and then took care of all the seemingly
insignificant little details, (but actually to us were very big). We

Hie great North American Christian Convention was to be held

from July 26 through the 29. It is a convention of 20,000 or

more, and we were attending for several reasons. Our cup
cdw(^s needs filled with additional spiritual fervor, we could
have a booth and gain more exposure concerning our work (as
people tour the vast area of hundreds and hundreds of booths),
and lastly, Tim was to give a concert. It wasn't our plan to
arrive in the midst of the rush-hour traffic. 5:00 p.m. came
JUST TOO EARLY!!! No problems, however, and it was a
doudy and cool day for travel!
... July 26-29. The first thing of major importance was to set
up the booth. After this it was a myriad of seeing hundreds and
hundreds of people from across the country and around the
world, who were already friends, and new contacts were made
because someone would come by and say, "Such and such a

brought by the Bobby Broyles and Mrs. Funk to us at the

motorhome almost as soon as we arrived. A perfect ending to

person sends their love." We thrilled at the messagesbrought by

outstanding speakers, and it is really difficult to pinpoint any
thing that identifies one thing better than another. But Floyd
Strater (convention president and minister of the Knott Avenue
Christian Church in Anaheim, California) made the statement
ril always remember. He referred to GaJatians 3:27 and said,
"Many want Christ as Savior, but NOT MANY want HIM as
LORD!!!" .... We enjoyed numerous meals with friends and
hours of chatting that brought us up to date on news of so
many. A brief time at Cincinnati Bible College Alumni Recep
tion made me realize my classmates of a few years back had
gotten grey or bald!!! The fun and spirit has never dwindled
however. There was time out for a newspaper interview with the
St. Louis Globe-Dispatch. The workshops were ALL super
great. Wish we could have been in all of them. Friday (29th)
was all to soon here. Physically we felt the need for the
convention to end, but it was a mountain top and emotional
experience, and who likes to come down from the top of a

our day.

mountain. It ended with Tim in concert at 7:45 p.m. (J^y 29)

... July 24. We were showered with love, and it was so good to
see everyone again. Lariy's message of the morning was so good
as he lifted us all to a higher plain of Christian Uving. We had a
long table discussion after we savored every bit of Judy's

playing for what they called the "FESTIVAL OF FINE ARTS"

for college and singles. He did his very best. The time passed
quickly, and we headed for bed. Tim was coming down with an
attack of too much stuff his allergies didn't like. We tore down
the booth and walked the short distance to Melody and told her
we'd be getting her awake early in the morning as she'd have a

for Tim and his extra measure of generosity in all things. We

were truly impressed by his humbleness, yet he is SO great! We

MOVING ON

.. . July 23, still. Hartford was about a 3 or so hours' drive

away. A good trip. STILL hot. The Christian Church people are
very dear to us, and it was wonderful to return. Their new

minister, Larry Tedrow, wife, Judy, and children, Darren and

Robin, were new acquaintances to us, but NOT for long, and we
were so very blessed by this lovely family. A tasty dinner was

dinner. The concert of the evening was so well received, and it

big day tomorrow! It had been a Lil' Bit of Heaven for these
days, and God was so good to allow us this blessing. About feU
asleep on our feet.

... July 30. On the way by 6:00 a.m. and Tulsa was about 350
miles. It was a HOT afternoon sun blazing through glass. HUMM
SEEMS THE AIR CONDITIONER IS SICK.... Not very
pleasant now. Then as we neared Tulsa, a blast from a horn, and
I said, "Be careful, Jerry. Don't hit that RABBIT!" The Rabbit
was driven by none other than our dear friend, Bill Mor
gan
We pulled to the side of the interstate and chatted
momentarily. Ahead a few miles was the 76 Truck Stop. We
were going to have to have the air conditioner worked on. Tim
got in with BiU, and we soon rendezvoused over a cold drink.
Bill continued homeward to Dallas after awhile, and we were
told it would be a long time before they could get to us. We
chose to return. Finally at 7:00 p.m. we presented ourselves at
Gloria Lawson's apartment. She is another special person to us.
(She used to live in El Paso but now serves as church secretary
at the Highland Park Christian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.)
Gloria anticipated the great thirst we had, and the cool iced tea
was a life-saver. We soon followed her to the church parking lot,

and before long we were all at ease and cooling down.... I told
Jerry if all the terrible heat did not make people aware of their
souls and salvation, I wonder if anything would.
... July 31. We met B. A. Austin, Highland Park's most capable
minister, and his wife, Linda, and daughter, Angie. Our day
with them was full of joy. We spoke during the "Koffee Kup"
Qass, Tim played during worship, and by that time lunch at
Purr's Cafeteria was well received by the Austin's, Gloria, and
our family. The concert of the evening held a surprise when a
friend from El Paso, Delia Maxwell, came. Tim is always so
elated to see people, and so was the case with Delia. (We all
were.) The evening's concert was full of enthusiasm from Tim,
and the audience was radiating its joy and approval to him.
Gloria had fixed a mountain of food (It seemed.) for an army of
people, and we forgot (almost) there was a clock, as we visited
with Delia, Mulveena and Bill Sumpters, all the Austins, Steve
and Debby Thomas and children, and Debby's sister, Sandy. It
was so great to COOL off and relax.
... I hate to leave you in the heat, but the END of July is
today, so that's the way it is! We NEVER CEASE to marvel at
how God has opened one door after another and continues to
do so. Jerry said, "We need to expect the unexpected," and I
say, "AMEN."
... Our plans were to be home in July, but when that did not
materialize, we plan now to arrive in late October (schedule
included). Our house has not sold, but we would not have had

His Birth Made a Difference

HIS Birth Made THE Difference
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

Rosemary Baley

"TIM'S HYMNS"

... In her book, Rosemary tells not only of the many crises in their
lives, but also how God has given their son a tremendous finger
dexterity, and how It led to a keen interest in piano. As parents, they
did all in their power to encourage Tim In his music. His little one
finger, and one hand tunes led to two fingers, two hands and soon he
was scaling the keyboard! Tim plays almost completely by ear, never
with music, and a song is rarely played the same way twice. Those
who hear and see him MARVEL at this God given ability, and many
requests were made for tapes after reading the book, or hearing
him-thus "TIM'S HYMNS -

HE TOUCHED ME" was made. The

name so chosen simply because, truly GOD touched this one's life.
There are 17 favorite hymns on the cassette.

REFLECTIONS...

Volume 2
GLEANINGS WITH MEANINGS

There was a sense of deep sadness, but still we felt joy and
anticipation as we bowed in a circle of prayer with the young
minister and his wife, askingGod to see us safely home. We had
come to the final concert of this year's tour, and though we
were road weary and tired, we would MISS being on tour, but
we were going home after 7 wonderful months on the concert

circuit. Tim could hardly wait to get there and get on his bicycle
and start making the rounds to see those he loved.... His
eagerness was very vivid as he slammed the motorhome door

shut, locked it, and said with a vociferous voice, "Mom, Dad IS
going to PUSH to get us home, isn't he?" He was trusting his
father to drive while he slept through the night, feeling totally
secure. Tim's words kept going through my mind as Jerry and I

diatted back and forth all ni^t long. I thought, "Oh, that our

Number 3

trust in God were as deep and secure." We are aware of the

direction our lives should be going, and our heavenly Father is

surely PUSHING for us to keep our direction toward HIM (to
get us to that heavenly home)

but too often we take a

detour, don't follow the road map (the Bible) and soon we are

off course. The security Tim had was he knew dad kept his
hands on the steering wheel and his eyes on the highway. Our

security is our hand in Christ's - NEVER letting go. What we

do now prepares us for eternity. Philippians 4:6-7 (Living Bible)

"Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything;

tell God your needs and don't forget to thank Him for His
answers. If you do this you will experience God'speace, which
is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. KBs

peace will keep your thoughts and yourhearts quiet and at rest
as you trust in Christ Jesus."

... Aug. 1, Monday. We left you in the heat (110 degrees) at

the end of the last newsletter. Hope you're not fried! We are
still in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with the Highland Park Chiisti<m
Church. Our hostess, Gloria Lawson, had arranged a deliglitful,
busy schedule, and today we started out by going to a TV
station for an interview, we thought! They were a bit confused
at the station and had Tim play 3 times in 154 hours. We
sat.... No one seemed aware of what was going on. A steady
stream of people walking by us made the time pass quickly, and
we found it more than a little entertaining, but we finally left.
Gloria had arranged a concert in Broken Arrow (just outside of
Tulsa) at the Gatesway Foundation. This is a lovely residential
facility for special people. It has 95 residents, and they had

quiet time to be together. Snatched a bit of rest and soon time

for the evening concert. Our hearts were overjoyed wiien, to our
amazement, in the services were Bill and Roberta Burr, visiting
from El Paso; Marsha Wood and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wood

(sister and parents of Marilyn Wood, who types our newsletter),

visiting from Dodge City, Kansas; Ron and Amy Sapp, Julie and
Howard Wentz, Joe and Maxine Myers, and Charles and Jeannie
Sparks, all local people. Gene and Donita Weece minister to this
congregation, and it was good to be with them, though time
prevented a visit.

enthusiasm for 3 times that number. It was a fun time.

,.. Aug. 2, Tuesday. It wasn't the terrible heat that got to

Melody, but that old starter was still giving her fits. Jerry kindly
drove her to a 76-Truck Stop. Wewere hopeful of being finished
for the afternoon concert, having gone out at 7:30 a.m., but at
1:30 Gloria came for Tim and me, and soon we were at the Park
Terrace Nursing Home and from there to Little Lighthouse (a
school for the visually, mentally, and physically impaired). What
a joyful time to be there! The kids couldn't get cl6se enough to
the piano, and even the tiny, little ones were bustin' at the
seams with excitement, happiness, and MUSIC. Those who were
deaf circled the grand piano as they laid their hands on it to feel
the rhythm. What an experience! The staff was fantastic and so
warm and cordial.

In fear and trembling we went back to the church to see if

Jeriy had come back yet and to see WHAT THE BILL WAS!
Knowing they had worked a full day on it, I felt certain it
would be staggering. ALL DAY LONG we had prayed about
it. ,,. When we got there, Jerry had just arrived. I didn't even
say hello, but "What is the bill? Is it all fixed?" Jerry tried to
tease that it was huge, BUT his relief and joy shone through,
and we said, "OK, tell the truth. You can't lie, and you know
it." "The mechanic only charged for parts and 1 hour of
LABOR!! It was very minimal." Tears flooded our eyes, and we
stopped immediately and had prayer right on the parking lot.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
... Aug. 3, Wednesday. It was time now to be heading onward.
Gloria met us at the church, and we had a tearful and prayerful
farewell. God had blessed us with such a wonderful time in

Tulsa, and now we needed His protection, as always, as we

traveled. The pleasant memories helped to take our mind off the
sweltering weather.

the home of our very dearest of friends, Ray and Betty
Underwood, in Arvada, Colorado. We would be in the Denver
area for a month, and Ray and Betty's home and the Bear

Valley Christian Church would be headquarters for us. We were

thrilled to see Ray and Betty again but had a bonus blessing.
Mutual friends, Fem and Tom Clinkenbeard from Santa Cruz,
Califomia, were there for a brief visit. The wonderful evening of
food and chatter was made even more pleasant by a nice, cool
rain. What a blessing!
... Aug. 6, Saturday. The Berean Class of Bear Valley Christian
Church has been supportive of our work in every way since we
moved from Denver in 1971. We reaDy get homesick for tliese
people who have been a source of real strength to us. We were
honored to be able to be at a lovely dinner they had and for
things they had plaimed in the days ahead.
... Aug. 7, Sunday. Gateway Christian Church in Aurora,
Colorado, was on today's schedule. Having stayed at Bear Valley
overnight, we rousted out of bed and went across town to
Aurora. Bible School started the day off. Tim played, and we
spoke. Helen and Elbert Walters, friends for so many years, fed
us a savory meal, and the whipped cream of it all was the bit of

JUST A BIT OF CHUCKLE

When we visited the Empire State Buildinglast summer, Jerry

said, "That building has 60 miles of plumbing in it. Can you
imagine how much DRANO they would use?"
... Aug. 9, Tuesday. Gayton and Wilma Grimstad, who are

cherished friends, had us and Joyce Kirkpatrick and son, Steve,

for dinner. Wilma is a super perfect cook, and we all remember
it as a penetrating evening "chewing the rag" and of course, the
food (nutrition is important!).
... Aug. 11, Thursday. Up at 5:30 and across town to Skyline
Dodge with Melody. She was STILL ailing in a number of areas.
A WHOLE day and NOT A THING ACCOMPLISHED. Part was
to have been ordered. Didn't come in they said. (It hadn't even
been ordered!)

...Aug. 12, Friday. Back across town with our friend, Ray
Underwood, ashe went to work at 5:30. Another day of sitting.
At 2:30 I said, "We HAVE to be out of here." "The part is on
its way...." At 4:30 the part arrived.... Put on... PART
DEFECTIVE.

... Aug. 13, Saturday. Old part put back on - took Melody

home with us. Enough of this stuff, having her in garage

overnight.... They'll order the part, and we are to call them
Monday.
... Aug. 14, Sunday. It was a day to remember... A red letter
one! We began it by being with the Bear Valley Christian

Church. John Kakac, the effervescent young minister, leads this

congregation. Tim's concert was during the worship hour, and
even though he is NOT a morning person, he was in HIGH
SPIRITS that day, and liis gleeful attitude was contagious to the
audience. We again were surprised that a friend was visiting from
Mississippi, Mrs. Tipton and her family. We were sorry time did
not permit a visit, but a "Hello" was better than nothing. In
order to take care of a stomach that always seems to need
filling, Sharon and Virgil Kilgore get an "A" for fixing Tim (and
us, too) up. A 6:00 p.m. service then at The Church in South
Denver. It was our first time with these people and to meet the
Don Scott's, Don Heese's, and Steve Heeses's. I will neverforget
this concert!! A terrible storm was taking place as Tim played.
The lighting was out in the auditorium, and a spotli^t was on
Tim. The beautiful tone of the Steinway Grand was flowing
26-

with the final number, HOW GREAT THOU ART, and as he

took us to the Armadillo Mexican Restaurant for lunch. It was

played, the open windows revealed in fullness some of the

song's words, "I hear the rolling thunder, Thy pow'r throughout
the universe displayed"
and "feel the gentle breeze". The

an especially enjoyable time, and we revere such memories

always. Clear from the south Denver area now and north to the
Westminster, Colorado, Christian Church (Leslie Rock, minis

lightning flashed and the storm raged, and &e GENTLE breeze

ter). Again so very many special friends here, and among those

brought misty rain through the window. Oh, what a moment! I

thought, "HOW CAN ANYONE SAY THERE IS NO GOD and
LIVE WITHOUT HIM!!" The Heeses's and Scott's said to Tim,
"How about the Organ Grinder (a fun and delicious pizza

attending were Dr. David Rothman and his wife, Jan. I had
worked for Dr. Rothman for over 6 years, and words are not
adequate to say what a help he was to us in every way during

house)?" The pizza, ^ways superb, was only surpassed by the

fellowship. A very Special Day from beginning to end!

... Aug. 15, Monday. It was a BLUE Monday. Had to take

Melody back to the shop. They said they'd have their ACT and

the parts all together today. Guess what? You're ri^t. NO

PART! Well, you are taught patience in things like ^s

beautiful dinner and visit with Stan and Ginny Walters and
other guests and our friends, Velma Heckendom, Edna Ticen,
and Maiy and John En^and. Tim and Stan had a great time
around Ae pool table. The rest of us wore off the fabulous

dinner exercising our jaws. If you love fresh peach ice cream, go
see Ginny and Stan!!! My. ...

... Aug. 16, Tuesday. Back AGAIN to the garage... Boy, they
got in gear today. In at 8:00, out at 2:00. Wonders never cease.

We needed a hospital when we got the bill.

... Aug. 17, Wednesday. Cheerful Ruby Altergott knocked on
Melody's door. She knew our weakness, Colorado peaches, and
shared a whole big bunch with us. What a treat! Then she said,
"How about lunch?" We had eaten... "Go on me tomorrow or

sometime." And she gave us the money. What kindnesses are

shown to us!! A deli^tful evening was spent with Joy, Louis,

and Steve Kirkpatrick-our dear friends for over 30 years. It
makes it difficult to ever have enough time to visit, but we sure

made every minute count as we enjoyed Mexican food.

... Aug. 18, Thursday. We were so privileged to be guests of
Nancy and John Bokert this evening. We had heard so many
wonderful things about them and now could surely put our
stamp of approval on all that was said. Another lovely dinner
and evening of getting better acquainted. It was as they say "A
Fetching Good Time."
... Aug. 19, Friday. Ray Underwood's cousin, Wilma Roddy,

from Overside, California, came to Arvada today to visit Ray

and Betty. We love her so much. We all had a nice relaxing

evening.
... Aug. 20, Saturday. The Village Inn Brunch was really tasty,
and then we scampered back down to Bear Valley. Don, Wanda,
and son, Curtis, Cooper invited us for a spaghetti dinner. You
have NOT eaten spaghetti until you have eaten Don's. It is truly
Italian and takes 3 days of making and cooking! Even the Awful
electrical storm did not mar the evening. I mean it did
storm....

We were so honored and overjoyed at the kindnesses of the

Bear Valley people. When they Imew we were coming, they
arranged for us to have time for visits and to get acquainted
with numerous new folk. We appreciated that so mudi, as well
as the generous hospitality. We had rererved this week as sort of
a time of visiting since we have so many dear friends in Denver,
and my, it was far more wonderful than we ever dreamed.
Thank you. Bear Valley and Berean Class. WE LOVE AND
APPRECIATE YOU!

... Aug. 21, Sunday. City driving can be pleasant on Sunday

moming, not so much traffic, and so the drive down to the
Christian Church at Chatfleld (Our good friends. Bob and

Phyllis Scott, minister here.) was most pleasant. The weather

absolutely perfect. The beautiful church building was PACKED
for the moming concert, and the love that the audience

showered on Tim was certainly reciprocated. Because breakfast

had been so early, Tim was SURE we had MISSED lunch and
was more than ready when Norm and Betty Naylor and the
lovely Rick Hankins family (How the children have grown!)

those years. Tim loved them both so much, and our first piano
in our home was theirs. They had NEVER heard Tim play, nor
could they comprehend that he could. We were so pleased they
were able to come to the concert. Without any indication that
he was going to do it, Tim stood up before he started his last
song (How Great Thou Art) and said, "I want to dedicate this
song to a very special friend and my former doctor. I love you.
Dr. Rothman and Jan." And truly, it came from his heart.
... Aug. 22, Monday. We couldn't leave Denver without seeing
C. J. and Phyllis Berardini. How we love them! C. J. cooks steak
to perfection, and Phyllis makes an irresistible dish of fettuccini.
What more could you ask for?? All too soon the clock said, "Be
on your way."
... Aug. 23, Tuesday. Jeannie and Charles Sparks, such a
beautiful, young couple, had lived in El Paso and moved to
Aurora. Our friendship has matured through the years, and so
we had dinner and an evening of contentment being with them.
... Aug. 24, Wednesday. Friends from way back in Cincinnati

Bible luminary days, (^at IS a LONG time ago.) cannot be

overlooked, so we had a pleasant lunch with Irene and Talmadge

Pace. Off then to Jack and Virginia Schlieker's and a sort of
inside picnic. The evening got away from us as we talked over
old times, and all too soon we said good-bye. Back up to
Arvada, and Ray, Betty and Wilma were waiting up with the

coffee pot on, so notsure if we got to bed that ni^t.

... Aug. 25, Thursday. An RV service garage was to do a final

little job on Melody. Guess what? Not enough help...: YET
there is unemployment. Gave up.
... Aug. 26, Friday. Every available moment possible we do
office work. Today we got a lot done.
... Aug. 27, Saturday. Bemice and Warren Dodd are priceless
firiends, and we had to sandwich in a visit. Today was the day
over lunch, and we relished every minute of it.
... Aug. 28, Sunday, We were privileged to share today with the
Birch Street Christian Church. Tom Hurd, Sr. and Donna serve
here and are assisted by son, Tom Jr. and his wife, Pam. Tom
Jr. and our Tim sort of grew up together, so we have had a
warm friendship for years. Donna and Tom took us to their
home for dinner, and our afternoon together was treasured.
... Aug. 29, Monday. Our time in Denver is running out. One
more precious visit before we leave. Added to the pleasure of
the evening, as we drove to Hank and Eva Bentsen's, was the
beautiful scenery of the Rocky Mountains. Donna and Tom
drove us, and so we had a bit more time to share with them, and
long before we were ready, it was "good-bye" to Hank and Eva,
too.

... Aug. 30, Tuesday. Time was running out. One day left.
Jerry was painting the trim for Ray and Betty on their house.
Had to get it done. Ray has not been well, and one of his lesser
desires is to paint. Jerry is an avid painter and so said, "Give me
a brush and paint, and we'll get it done." And just as we had
prayed for good weather, he was able to finish up. It was a nice

change for 1^ and ahelp to Ray.

"AUF WIEDERSEN, DENVER"

... Aug. 31, Wednesday. We had a lot of sadness within our
spirits today. This had been a month of pure delict. Being sort
of BACK HOME and seeing all those we love so much made it
awfWly hard to leave, but still the anticipation of what lay
ahead was exciting. We just thanked God for ALL His goodness

to us and allowing us to share these times. We did the usual

travel preparation and were soon on our way. Didn't have far to
go. Destination Colorado Springs.

message of the morning left us upUfted and challenged. It has

always been good to hear him, but age does something to
people! That's a compliment.... Dinner with Joyce and Sherm
and a nice visit. Soon time for the evening service. We sang, and

'SPRINGING' INTO ACTION

Tim played requests. We were so pleased to see the Stan

Bouchard's there. He is working with wife, Jean, at the new
church in Falcon, Colorado. Our friendship goes WAY back,
too. We had had four super days of being able to serve our God
by singing, speaking, playing, and song leading, but the
benediction had now been prayed at the last ser
vice. ... Another rich blessing had been ours.... Joyce and
Sherm invited Jean and Stan over, and did we eat pizza!

... Sept. 1, Thursday. We were greeted by Jim Walton, and he

zipped us over to the Laurel Manor Nursing Home. Jim and wife
Maije are extraordinary friends. Maije is the Social Worker and
Activities Director for the home and wanted Tim to play for her
residents. They surely were a charming group of people. Marje
took her lunch break, and we had a bit of time together at
King's Table. Only wish it could have been longer
On now
to Central Christian Church in Colorado Springs. Sherman and
Joyce Nichols minister here. Sherm greeted us, and we were sure
Melody was tended to and comfortable. I had been in college
with Sherm, and we have maintained a bond of love all these
many years. We were anxious to see and be with them. We had

been invited here to participate in the Senior Saints Conference

the church has each year. Our part on the program was to lead
the music and bring special music, and Tim was to play and
present a concert. The conference kicked off with a lovely
banquet. Ronnie Hanna, the minister from Montrose, Colorado,
gave the address, and Tim presented a mini-concert. Sherm and
Joyce asked Tim to stay in their home. Though he loves
Melody, he always enjoys being with people and sort of
stretching his LONG legs in a house.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

A statement that came out of this conference is something we

ALL need to ponder over. YOU DO NOT GROW OLD - YOU
BECOME OLD BY NOT GROWING.... another is IN OLD
AGE YOU ARE JUST GETTING RIPE.

... Sept. 5, Monday. We were a Httle slow this morning. A big

wonderful week-end, then a let down. Did get in gear though
and enjoyed our final visit and ravishing brunch with Joyce and
Sherm. It was then, "Thanks so much. You've blessed us, and
we'll miss you." .., North to Denver.... Dinner with Ray and
Betty Underwood, and our final farewell of the trip to them.
ALL ABOARD FOR WYOMING AND NEBRASKA

... Sept. 6, Tuesday. A lovely day of travel into Wyoming.

... Sept. 7, Wednesday. Our destination this time is Gering,

Nebraska. I had the surprise of my Ufe when we got on Highway

80 and Highway 71 and on into Gering. The scenery surprises
were something I had never dreamed was in Wyoming and
Nebraska!! Huge rocks, scenes of greenery, then flatlands with
sloping hills and the rocks jutted up. The sky was a beautiful
soft baby blue with white billowy clouds and a cozy warm sun.

(The terrible heat was not here now.) Oh, this is a very special
part of God's country. I was so thankful we could enjoy this

day. Psalm 65:6-8, "He formed the mountains by his mighty

strength. He quiets the raging oceans and all the world's clamor.

In the farthest comers of the earth the glorious acts of God shall
startle everyone. The dawn and sunset shout for joy!" (The

Living Bible) We made it in good time to Gering and had a big,

warm welcome from Pete Jones, the minister. All across the
country, people spoke so positively of Pete and the work he and
... Sept. 2, Friday. A lovely continental breakfast was served at
the church for all attending the conference. The day's activities
included excellent speakers. Among those who were there,
besides Ronnie Haima, were Dr. Norma Sneed Small and
husband. Bob, veteran minister Frank Kem and Mrs. Kern, and
artist Lloyd States. Between sessions opportunities for visiting
added to the total program. Meals in the local restaurants were

jovial, to say the least. (The food was good, too.)

... Sept. 3, Saturday. Tlie same routine as the preceding day.
Tim's concert was to close the sessions. Uoyd States, our dear
friend and an exceptional artist, painted while Tim gave his
concert. This beautiful picture was given to the person who
brought the most people to the concert. (How I wish I had been
that person!) A lady was thrilled to be the recipient of the
picture. I don't know how many she brought, but it was a
bunch!! I would say between 40 and 50. Lloyd was overcome
with Tim's concert, as he remembered him as a child. It is so
hard for people who knew him when he was tiny to conceive
that he could do much of anything constructive, let alone play
the piano. ...When the concert was over and the standing
ovation was conclusive, Lloyd asked that he might speak. His
remarks were so touching and beautiful a tribute to GOD and
Tim.

... Sept. 4, Sunday. They treated us so good! Even another

tasty continental breakfast today (before services). Sherm's
~ 28

wife, Wanda, were doing. It was our pleasure to meet them now.
The perfect spot was available for Melody. Preparation for the
evening concert was not rushed, and soon it was time. A busy,
hard-working publicity campaign by the preacher and com
mittee produced a houseful and running over! Tim was most
responsive to theirgenerous approval of what they were hearing,
and he squeezed about every ounce of energy he had to do his
best. It soon came back when Wanda and Pete took us to eat.

To Tim there is magic in food. He was revived!

Just to throw this in If you are in this area of Nebraska,
DO see Gering and Scottsbluff.

... Sept. 8, Thursday. Tim may have been beat last night, but
\^dlen Fred Aye came to get him and Dad to take them for a ride

in his custom-built van that has a German-made DIESEL engine

with turbo charge (air-cooled) and also 4-wheel drive with dual
rear wheels, he had NO problem getting up. With Fred were
Roger Hammond and Ray Richards. Pete (the minister) was
there when they returned. Tim saw the van inside out, and I'm
sure Fred wondered if the questionswould ever stop. They left,
and a gentle tap on the motorhome door was next. Jean
Snocker, our next hostess, came to lead us to her home where

we would spend the next four days. As we chatted, another

knock. Betty Thompson came with a huge bag of homemade
goodies bread, jellies, etc. Sorry you missed it. Such love
and kindness! Time to get the guys away from the Diesel

(wasn't easy) and be off to Jean's. Melody thoughther reserved

place was perfect, and it was just outside of Jean andhusband,

look so very familiar." "I'm Lucille Maxson, and Stanley (her

husband) is behind you." Jerry knew Stanley the minute he saw
him. I didn't know either of them. Well, they were so dear to us
in Grand Junction, Colorado! Tim was a baby, and their
diildren were also very small. We were thrilled to see their
daughter who now teaches in Casper. BEAUTIFUL girl. Stanley
and LuciUe live in Riverton which is 120 miles from Casper.
They happened to see the article about Tim in the newspaper.
Ludlle said, "Stanley, we just have to go see TIMMY." He still
was "Timmy" to them and probably always will be. Stanley
arranged to get off work early, and they made the long trip.
They, too, could not believe what they saw and heard and are
vividly aware how GOD has worked in Tim's life. There is NO
WAY to tell how happy we were to see them, and I'm so glad
they saw that newspaper. It truly is a SMALL WORLD. Not
time for a visit a long ride home was ahead of them. Our

home was parked this night in front of Nancy and Ray

Gronewold's home. We had such a calm dinner at 10:00 p.m.
^Aiien we finally came to the end of the day. Nancy is a perfect
Charlie's, back door. A quick set-up and then a concert for the
student body of Platte Valley Bible College. Noon-time we
enjoyed being with the Kiwanis Club for lunch, and Tim played
a few songs. They were sponsoring an area concert so this was
their introduction to us. Dinner with Charlie and Jean. Jean had

a meeting of women to attend and asked that 1 go and speak

and tell about our work. NEVER miss this opportunity. What a
pleasant and delightful bunch of ladies! I was honored to be
invited. I even learned how to make WON TONS, and are they
yummy!

little hostess and took it all in her stride serving us at that hour.
Bless her and Ray.
... Sept. 10, Saturday. An early morning drive and we were

back in Scottsbluff at 11:30. Lunch with Clifford and Judy

Shaw. (He serves at Platte Valley Bible College.) What a delight
to become friends with this family! A huge dinner and a trip
across the "Bluff with the Shaw's made for a simply
marvellous afternoon. The rock formations of the bluff were

spectacular! Time was approaching for the concert of the area

that was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club and Mental Health and

Mental Retardation Center. It was a successful evening, and

though the crowd was not as large as they had hoped, we were
pleased. It was held in the Scottsbluff HighSchool Auditorium,
and they had a magnificent grand piano. There aren't a lot of
these in public schools. Charlie and Jean Snocker and their
friends, Ted and Mona Doggett and Lori and Ken Carter, knew

the food was good at the Hatte River Junction Restaurant, and
it was "Amen" from us. We went there after the concert.

... Sept. 11, Sunday. The chickens may have beaten us getting
up but not much. Tim played at the early and late services at
the Church at Bryant in Scottsbluff, Gerald Zuck, minister.

Gerald quoted a statement that wasthe motto of his daughter's

graduating class, "ACCEPT ME AS I AM SO THAT I MAY

LEARN WHO I CAN BECOME." This is truly a need for all but
ESPECIALLY for the people whom we have labeled "Mentally
Handicapped". The church had a carry-in dinner, and believe
me, they DID carry-in! Nebraska is truly a FARM state. Food
galore. Evening was full of pleasantries! Charlie and Jean drove
us to Bayard, Nebraska, to the Church of Christ. When the

... Sept. 9, Friday. Not stayin' in bed this morning. Off to

Lingle, Wyoming, where Tim was to give a concert at the high
school. Had a bit of time beforehand to enjoy coffee and donuts
that Jean had sent along. The kids were great, and Tim surely
enjoyed this experience. We ate lunch in Lingle and headed on
to Casper, Wyoming, arriving in plenty of time to have a nice
visit before the concert with the minister, Bill Hallstead, of the
Richard Street Christian Church. A flash storm hit before the

concert but passed over leaving the air so clean and fresh. It did

DAMPEN the crowd, as well as the ground, but we were pleased

and especially overwhelmed at a couple who came. Her eyes
glistened and the sweet smile made me aware I KNEW THIS

WOMAN. Her beautiful white hair had changed her appearance

considerably. She said, "Rosemary, you don't remember me, do
you?" I said, "I know I should, but I am sorry, I don't. You

concert was scheduled, we were told the preacher knew us, and
sure enough - Tom Reynolds had been a student of Jerry's.
Tom and Nancy are choice people, and we had not seen them in
a long, long time. The crowd was receptive, and Tim was elated
to see Tom and Nancy. It was a good evening. A beautiful
reception gave us an opportunity to meet and talk with the

people. Before the concert ended, Tom presented Tim with a

beautiful picture of "CHIMNEY ROCK" which is a captivating

landmark just outside of Bayard. It is lit and s^es so

beautifully at night.
.. . Sept. 12, Monday. Another day in Wyoming. Left early for
Torrington. Jean went with us, and soon we were at Torrington
High School. Such a beautiful school, and the grand piano was
of equal caliber. The student body was full of commotion and
levity, but when Tim began to play, the attitudes were changed
to serious attention. The resounding applause and standing
ovation showed their approval. God bless these young people.
The gracious little student body president "lx)ri" made us
welcome and took care of our every need at lunch. The kids
came to Tim saying "Thank you". It was good to have been
there! On back to Scottsbluff. There was time to attend to

Melody's needs a bath and fiU-up of LP gas. These jobs are

hard to fit in sometimes. Off to Scottsbluff Villa Nursing Home.

A HUGE crowd and so pleased were they to have Tim. I think

they would have stayed for hours.... Jerry and Tim scooted
off to an area men's supper and meeting. Jean and I kept the
home fires buming.

we were off to the ladies meeting of the church. I spoke, and
after lovely refreshments and a bit of women's talk, we were on
our way.... continuing in Nebraska toward Norfolk. Time

and Jack Hanley threw out the RED carpet. Melody made
herself at home ri^t up by the church. Shortly the newspaper

sent out a photographer to take a picture to go with a write-up

in the local paper, and then we piled in Jack's car, and he took
us to their home where Hazel (his wife) had prepared a luscious
dinner. Hazel had heard us at Camp Como in Colorado and

she did! Jack had been a railroader for many years, and he had a

about 300 tracks. Tim's eyeballs about popped out. Jack was
more than ready for questions, and his years of experience left
none unanswered. So good to be with the Hanley's and leam to

Christian College and also Fall Roundup at the church this day.
The college class left no stone unturned to tell the NCC kids
they were welcome to be a part of the class. Loved every minute
of our time with them.... Wasn't very long after that those
dear people had a HUGE pot-luck dinner. You sure could need
Tums for the tummy if you didn't watch yourself at such a
fantabulous affair. A packed house for the concert, and there
were many community people who attended. We were particu
larly h^py to be in Norfollc Seemed there were friends coming
out of the woodwork. It was an especially enjoyable time for
us.... arid we hope for those who were there.

know them and love them more.

... Sept. 14, Wednesday. Roger, the minister, drove us to a

local radio station. Enjoyed a nice interview and then on to the
TV station. Jack and Hazel met us there. They watched while
we had an interview. We were able to say a lot, and the hostess
on the news was so interested in our work. After we finished,

^e asked if she could continue the interview. We said yes, but

time was a problem. End result.... we were scheduled at a local
school for special diildren. They would come out there. It
would be perfect she said. A quick but nice lunch, and then to
the school. We had a tenific time, and the kids and staff were
fantastic. The staff members said over and over how encouraged

they were, they could see hope in so many students

now.... We praised God and were grateful for the opportunity.
That's what our work is all about. The kids enjoyed being on
TV, and it made a beautiful story. Time does have a habit of
getting away..'. Soon the schedule revealed next was a
pot-luck dinner. Our stomachs agreed this was a good idea.
Since the program was to be on during the dinner, the TV was
set up in the social hall. A young retarded boy had come up to
me and pointed to Tim and to the TV. He was so ANX
IOUS. ... He stood in front of the set WAITING. I would give

most anything for a movie of him and his beautiful face when
he saw Tim and then saw the TV video of Tim and Uberace. He

absolutely was ecstatic! He expressed through his motions his

love for Tim, music, and just being able to be there. The concert
was soon to start. Hie church was fiiU. The young man sat
behind me in the second row. Tim had struck up a good rapport
with him, and he did not miss a trick of the concert. The

audience, already most responsive, was as far as he was

concemed not 100% of what he thought they should be. At the
dose of one song, he stood up and cheered and clapped and
looked around at the audience as if to say "GET WITH IT!",
and believe me, they did!!! Soon the time had come for "How

Great Thou Art", Tim's closing. The vibrant applause a^ost

shook the rafters, and the audience honored Tim with a

standing ovation. Before they could even get to their feet, the

young man had reached Tim as he came from the platform and
threw his arms around him and huggedhim with ALL his mi^t.
Then he turned to the audience and with joy on his face and in
his eyes, he shouted something and hugged Tim even harder.
Yes, it was a scene only God Imows the real impact. I can only
say this young man's enthusiasm, love, and devotionto God and
the moment of the hour left nary a dry eye in that auditorium.

... Sept. 19, Monday. What a lovely way to start a MONDAY.

Jacque Qausen brought us a plate of homemade cakes! Just
perfect for coffee break time. No one knows how grateful we
are for all the MANY kindnesses shown to us. They add zest to

our sometimes weary, lagging spirits. Thanks is NEVER an

adequate word, but God knows our hearts.... Well, need to be
moving, we told Melody. She was so comfortable but didn't
object. Arrived in Omaha. Our dear friend, Patty Smith, who is
with the Meyer Rehabilitation Institute in Omaha, had to know
we were going throu^ town. Luckily, we reached her. "I don't
believe tWs!", she said. "We have a group here from En^and
who MUST hear Tim play." We set forth the plans, then she

^plained there were two doctors and two admii^trators in the

field of SpecialEducation who had come over to study and visit

just every place they felt would be helpful in America. Patty
ananged to use the lounge in the Nurses College at the
University of Nebraska Medical School. They had a lovely grand
there. We had a wonderful visit over pizza and thrown in was a
TORNADO WARNING. WE WERE THANKFUL IT DIDN'T

LAST LONG. On ttien to their own private concert and

additional chatter. We felt so favored to have this time with

them and Patty and her dau^ter, Janie. Someday maybe well
be able to play for them in En^and. Dr. Mary Myers, Dr. John
Hatterdey, Jack Ridgwick, and Ron (Sorry, the last name
dipped us.) - Tim thinks you are the very greatest. WE DO
TOO.

NOW TO DBS MOINES, IOWA

... Sept. 20, Tuesday. Today we traveled toward Des Moines,

Iowa, and it was a fine trip. The weather was windy and cold,
but Melody was comfy. We were at home. Hung the electric
cord out and told Melody she could rest a few days, too. We
HAD lots of work we had to get done. We appreciated the few
days ahead to make the most of them and get a bit of rest
before a BIG week to come.

... Sept. 23, Friday. Melody had visitors; we did, too. Gene
Person, Doug Raymond (minister of the Rising Sun Church of
30-

Christ in Des Moines), and Ted Abel (associate minister) came

out to the RV park to see us. We would be with this
congregation Sunday and had looked forward to it for a long
time. Gene and his wife, Wilma, met us in Idaho and arranged
the time to become acquainted with Doug and Ted. Of course,
we were happy to see Gene.
... Sept. 25, Sunday. This was a special day at Rising Sun. They
had Handicapped Sunday. The service was geared to the need all
handicapped people have for Christ, and the minister's sermon
stressed it emphatically. Lunch followed with Gene and Wilma
taking us to a delicious buffet that had everything, I do believe.
We became better acquainted with relatives of Gene's Rosie
and Ralph Shivers and Dorthea and Frank Persons who joined
us at the restuarant. The concert was set for 6:00 p.m. A packed
house left no question that the pulsating feeling was shared
between Tim and the audience, and then a lovely tribute to Tim
in the fellowship hall. Oh, that time did not always interrupt.
How we thanked God for the beauties of this day: the weather
(so very perfect), the people and their outpouring of love, and
the services that blessed us so abundantly. It's so hard to settle
down when God does so much for you. Finally we slept.
...Sept. 26, Monday. Lots to do to get ready for the
convention coming up, Tim had a bonus, however. Rosie Shivers
(Tim really teased her about her name.) came to take him to
their home to spend some time. They have a farm, and he loves
the animals. Kg? fascinated him, always have, and he really gave
them the once over, in fact eyeball to eyeball. Ralph, Rosie's

minister in Orlando, Florida. (It was great to meet him.) We all

piled in Jerry's van (specially equipped for his wheelchair) and
found the "Spaghetti Works". We worked over the spaghetti,
believe me. We were encouraged hearing of Jerry's work called
POWER MINISTRIES. Would be glad to put you in touch with

husband, was the one on the witness stand. I told Jerry when it

him. Pray for his efforts. They are worthy of support in every

comes to questions Tim sure beats any Philadelphia lawyer.

way.

.... Some disheartening news today. Our insurance company

dropped our motorhome coverage (Know it was because of the
accident the man who hit and run us last January). The only
way to get coverage is to go commercial. That nearly doubles
our premiums! Oh, that hurts.

,.. Sept. 30, Friday. Well, the time has passed far too quickly,
and today we finish up. Tim was privileged to play a 10 minute

controlled. I was afraid to go to a doctor, having had so much

back problems and surgery..,. The convention began this
evening, and Tim gave a 10 minute pre-concert. Gov. Terry
Brandstead made some very meaningful remarks, and Harvey
Waddelow thrilled us as he challenged and exhorted us to be
better servants of HIS. This would be a tremendous week!

... Sept, 28, Wednesday. Convention continued. Heat and

sitting and intermittent rest enabled me to keep going. We had a
nice change of pace for dinner. The Taber's invited us, the
Shivers, and the Doug Raymond's for dinner. They attend the
Rising Sun Church where Doug and wife, Joyce, minister. Kathy
set a simply elegant table, and the food was a cut above that!
Now, that's GOOD. The evening service followed and was truly
a blessing.

... Sept. 29, Thursday. Into the third day now. OH,THAT
EVERYONE COULD BE HERE! Dennis RacWiff (minister in
Edon, Ohio) and Jerry Borton, also of Edon, are beloved people
to us. The Edon Church has supported us financially ever since
we have been in mission work, and we have built a solid, loving
friendship with them and Dennis. Jerry has a ministry for the
handicapped. He himself is in a wheelchair and such a testimony
for His Lord. With them was Dennis's friend, Tom Hensley,

concert iJiis afternoon, also, and Aen following the session, we

went with Gene and Wilma Person to Gringo's Mexican
restaurant. Needn't tell you how that went over with
Tim.... When we were at the Senior Saints Conference in

Colorado Springs, Chloe Lillie, a friend for ever so many years,

came to Tim after his concert and kissed him and said, "Tim,
will you honor me and accompany me at the National
Missionary Convention? I am to sing at the closing session." Tim
had played "When They Ring Those Golden Bells for You and
Me", and Chloe said, "I want to sing that song." There was no
hesitation on Tim's part. "I'd be glad to, Chloe.", and he was
excited. Jerry and I felt most uneasy. Tim has now started to
accompany us and does well, but we have been able to work

with him, but to accompany someone else well, we didn't

know. Chloe assured us THEY would do it, and we did not need

... Sept. 27, Tuesday. Up early and to the Veterans Auditorium

in Des Moines. This is where the National Missionary Conven

tion is being held. We had a booth scheduled for here, so there

was work now to set it up. The thrill of such a mass of people
coming together to worship, share, and praise our Lord cannot
be described. It only gives me a tiny glimmer of how wonderful
heaven will be. Besides the spiritual uplift, there were friends
from all across the United States and around the world some

we had not seen in many, many years. Oh, such a

thrill.... Jerry had a job he was doing in preparing our booth. I
had mail that needed to be mailed. The post office was not far. I
said I'd walk. He said, "No, Til go, as soon as I'm finished." I
said, "It is such a pretty day, I'll go." I did. In front of the post

office was a recessed sidew^k. I didn't see it, and you can guess

the rest. It came up and hit me, just like a ton of bricks. Dazed
and in such pain, I lay a bit, and far more awkward than any
elephant I finally got to my feet. In tears I made it back to the
hotel. Jerry wanted to get me to a doctor. I was sure I'd be OK.
Heat and sitting quietly the rest of the week kept the pain

to worry. Well, I can't say we weren't uneasy, but with only two
practices at the convention, I think you can see why we were
such. Hie time was here.... God surely inspired Tim, and I can
honestly say I don't think if they had worked a month it would
have been any better. Chloe's beautiful lyrical voice flowed
clearly and freely through the auditorium. Tim, though consid
erable distance from her and also having never practiced in the
huge auditorium, was able to stay right with her. They were
soon to the end, and the song was finished. There were many
with tears. The providential part is when Chloe chose the song
she had no idea there would be a memorial service for beloved

Deryll Sprunger, who had served as the treasurer for the

convention, and also for all deceased missionaries of the past
year. It was, without a doubt, not only a memorial service but a
time, I'm sure, that will be a memory for all those who heard it.

Read Revelation the 21st chapter, and I quote verse 4: "And

God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be
no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be
any more pain; for the former things are passed away." (KJV)
The part now that was not pleasant was to take down the
booth and bid good-bye to everyone. Gene Person, bless his
heart, simply took charge of moving our things out, and what a
blessing he was. And soon it was all history, but we have all the
pleasant memories and anticipation of next year's convention in
Phoenix.

aNCINNATl, IOWA: A GREA T LITTLE TOWN

... Oct. 1, Saturday. We put away all the "STUFF" from the
booth, etc. last night. (Also unloaded a bunch of printed
material our printer brought to us from El Paso after we got
through.) We could stay in bed a little longer this morning.
Didn't seem to me we had been to bed but needed to travel on,
so a hearty breakfast, and Melody informed us she was fit as a
fiddle and eager to start. Our breakfast was with Bill Moody,
wiio used to live very close to my home in Canton, Oliio. We
had some nice visits while at the convention, and this was the
final one. Tim loves Bill, and they had a LOT of fun together.
(Come to think of it, Tim loves everyone, and that's the way it
should be.) Only a short jaunt from Des Moines to Cincinnati,
Iowa, A small, pleasant town. Virgil and Georgia Sweany
miruster to the East Pleasant Christian Church, and they were
having a HOMECOMING DAY at the church. We were to be the
guests. What a glorious week-end. Virgil and Georgia took us to
Melody's spot, and it was right in the front yard of Ivan and
Darlene Cochran's (children Karee and Gary). A choice place
to watch the cars and people go by. Perfect. Within no time at
all, Melody said, "You go eat now. I'm just fine," So Virgil,
Georgia, and all the Cochran's and we went to a pizza parlor. It
was really hard to get the kids to agree to go, but we pulled
their legs!! We little bit older folks had a nice visit and enjoyed
the pizza. The kids inhaled theirs and wondered if we really
wanted all of ours. Bed felt most welcome,

,,. Oct. 2, Sunday. A splendid day all the way.... It went like
this - Bible School at 9:30. Tim gave a mini-concert. I spoke to
the adults. Morning worship Tim played, and we sang. An area
wide dinner at noon and food was bountiful, bountiful,,
bountiful. So lovely. Mrs. John Jarvis baked a simply beautiful
cake for Tim. Children, Kristal Ray, and Shane were there, but
we did not get to meet the Jarvis's. We are hopeful someday our
paths will cross and are so grateful for this loving gesture. All
enjoyed it. Time now (2:30) for the afternoon program. Jerry
preached the Homecoming message, we sang, and then Tim
presented a full concert. An excellent crowd. Beautiful weather.

Time now for more food 5:00 p.m. We ate. At 6:00 an evening
of music. They wanted Tim to play requests. At 7:00 youth
meeting, I spoke a bit to the precious young people. Time now
to go home. Sweany's came over to Cochran's, and we
congregated in the living room. The ice tea and lemonade were
just perfect. It was a busy, extraordinarily wonderful day. The
people so LOVING. They said, "YA'LL COME BACK." Lord
willing, we hope we can.
MELODY CROSSES THE KANSAS PRAIRIE

... Oct. 3, Monday. Ready to travel early but had to visit

awhile and not in a big hurry, Sweany's came over with such
goodies. They are some of the very grandest of God's servants.
How we love them and appreciate their friendship. Tim found it
hard to leave Karee and Gary, and I have a strong feeling they
felt the same way.... Going through new territory now and
destination this time Valley Falls, Kansas.

... Oct. 5, Wednesday, What a warm and friendly little town

Valley Falls is. Not a problem finding our street. The house we
were looking for was at the south end of the block. Jerry pulled
to the side and parked at the other end of the block. They were
short blocks. We got out and walked back. Ardith Spencer, the
felicitous wife of Gary Spencer, minister of the First Christian
Church, made us "at home", and after a visit we suddenly
realized we best get ready for the evening. Necessary now to set
up the display and try out the piano. Gary and the three of us
went out to Melody and started around the comer. WHOEE.

Melody had a problem! Jerry pulled her to the side and further
examination revealed a flat tire that was flat on ALL SIDES. 1

mean FLAT. Gary said, "You couldn't have had it at a better

spot. You're parked in front of the home of the man and

woman who run the tire shop and repair service!" A quick
phone call to tell them where we were and our needs, "WE

KNOW," she said. A neighbor had already called them telling

them a BIG motorhome was at their house, and they were also
having tire trouble, "We'll be right over." Within minutes the
spare was on. Only problem was they did not have a tire to fit
our Melody. We were also thinking a lot about the cost and
prayed that we could find a good USED or NEW tire CHEAP.
The closest town where we might get a tire was Topeka, Kansas.

Thirty miles was consideraWe distance to travel without a spare.

Had to get on with the schedule. Got the display set up and
then Ardith and her mother, Mrs, Evans, had raided the garden
and grocery store, and MY, what a dinner! The concert was such
fiin, and afterwards our bodies and minds relaxed at the home

of the Dale McAfee's. They invited all the congregation to an

open house. It was such a lovely affair and gesture. The day
came to an end the morning of the next day,... A Red Letter

Day, too.! Our little mother celebrated 88 years today! We love

her so much!

.,. Oct. 6, Thursday. Up early. Dale McAfee told Jerry last

night he would come and take him about 15 or so miles to get a
tire from a man who had a tire shop. They called, and he had
one. Dale, Gary, Mr. Evans, and Jerry went for it. To our utter

amazement, Charlie Armstrong GA\^ us the tire! God did so

much more, we got a brand new tire free, and to show her
appreciation, Melody wanted to roll with JOY, but first, filled
with THANKSGIVING, we all had prayer before we left the

Spencer's, thanking God AGAIN for ^ blessings and asking for

lis continued care. Left the Spencer's (Gary with us) and went

over to the Tire Shop, They put the new slipper on Melody, and
when Gary knew all was well, he left, and soon we were on our

way. We appreciated the consideration of the garage. They took

care of us almostinstantly each time. Not any lost time. A great
day of travel followed.

... Oct. 7, Friday. Aimingnow for Garden City, Kansas.

,.. Oct. 8, Saturday. Arrived at the home of Merle and Vivian
Rintoul. LUNCH WAS READY. She had made it especially for
Tim, and I don't think there were many Mexican dishes she had
missed. Merle and Vivian had wanted us to meet their family.

We have known them some time through Merle's sister and

husband, Forrest and Edythe Mae'Clodfelter (Grand Junction,
Colorado), but had never met their children and other relatives,
SO, it was GRAND CENTRAL STATION. What a festive,
joyous occasion! I'm not sure how many were there but LOTS,
and it hardly looked like the food was touched, and that is
saying a lot! Almost too full but had to get on with the work.
Went to the First Christian Church to meet the senior minister,
Cecil Swindle; youth directors, Judi and Gerald Belknap; and
the organist, Mrs. Elaine Joyce. Had a chatty time, and then

over to the Garden Valley Retirement Center to see the set-up

NOW! TO THE TEXAS PANHANDLE

for a concert there this evening. Garden City has a beautiful city
park. Vivian wanted Tim to see it. Her daughter, Merline,

.., Oct. 13, Thursday. Jerry called the preacher in Dimmitt,

Texas, and told him we're coming in and need a doctor. I'm
scared. With a back like mine, Ae first thought is hospital.
Could I have a cracked fusion or hip? We arrived at Roy and
Nona Barringer's home. Roy is the minister of First Christian
Church. We were friends from our college days at Cincirmati
Bible Seminary, and how we had looked forward to our being
with them in a week's evangelistic meeting. I HAD TO GET
WITH IT. Nona called the doctor and said we'd be there shortly.
Sometimes God's blessings are almost more than one can
comprehend. ... This was the case of the doctor Nona took me
over to, and a sweet, beautiful lady named Ann took over. I had

manages the Safari Gift Shop in the park. She gave Tim a Kansas
T-shirt as a keepsake. In the park is a swimming pool. That, in
itself, is not a bit unusual, but this pool is something else! It is
the largest concrete pool in the world! Covers Vi a city block
and holds Vh million gallons of water! The part that is so
unbelievable is it is FREE to swim, there. Isn't that nice? Well,
Vivian said, "Time to eat again." That precious soul had food
running out of several refrigerators in the house, AND family
members brought food. She had worked and worked. Time now
for the concert at the retirement center. What a super great
facility! They had a lovely chapel and the concert was open
to the public as well as residents. They loved it so. NO reason to
stop playing, Tim! Back home and coffee and whatever you
want for dessert, or whatever, was a wonderful end to a perfect
day.

... Oct. 9, Sunday. 8:00 and 10:30 were the worship services,
and Tim played. It was a beautiful, inspirational service. Forrest
and Edythe Mae Clodfelter had come to town for the concert.
They arranged to be traveling through. So they. Merle and
Vivian, and Merle and Mae's brother, David and Ws vdfe Millie,
and we three enjoyed the noon meal at the Hilton. When we got
through and back home, there wasn't much time till the evening
concert, Vivian insisted Tim might not have energy so she raided
the refrigerator, and we enjoyed the fellowship of the family so
much. If you can't eat now, the food is here, she said. To the
diurch soon.... It was packed, and to Tim, it was a perfect
moment. He gave a resplendent concert because his audience
was so loving. The newly completed social hall was the perfect
setting for the attractive reception. And then, we suddenly
realized these very special days were soon to be over, YES, we'll
surely tty to come back. Morning, again, was here before we

went to bed. Just somuch to getin, in so ^ort a time.

... Oct. 10, Monday. This is a spare day. Since we didn't have
to leave, Merline took Tim to the zoo. That was REAL fun for
both. Martha and Ferdde Loeppke live in Lakin, near Garden
City. (Martha is a sister to Merle,Mae, and David.) They wanted
us to come out for lunch. The peaceful setting of their farm and
the ride out was so relaxing, and one knew God was surely
ALIVE. Those farms are living proof!
When Jerry was in
graduate school in Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado,
in 1963, we made friends with Larrie Jean and Wendell
Ferguson who were from Palisade, Colorado. We had such good
times in Gunnison, but time passed, and our contacts have been
only through family and friends. Larrie and Wendell live in
Garden City. We were so disappointed they could not be in
town for the concert (They have never heard Tim play.), but
they came over for a short time..... Now I challenge you
TRY TO COVER 20 years in an hour's time. Well, we were
thrilled to tears to see them, and there were more when we said
good-bye. Dinner followed with Judi and Gerald Belknap

^'outh directors). This young couple has to be one of the

wannest, most loving couples we have known. Tim was thrilled

to be with them, and of course, we were too. Mexican food it
had to be. The video-cassette of I'im on Fantasy with liberace
was next. They wanted to see it so badly, so we went to Judi's
niece's home. Seemed it is getting time to be going home.
Forest, Mae, Merle, and Vivian are still up. A short but good

chat and li^ts soon out. Rainy and windy. Very severe pain

continuing (since the fall in Des Moines) in my back.

... Oct. 11, Tuesday. Sadly we left those we love so deeply.
Memories will always be cherished. We thanked them and
especially GOD for this beautiful time. Soon found out, after
we were on the road, that I was in real trouble with my back.
Traveled a short distance. Stopped for the night.

... Oct. 12, Wednesday. Pain intense. Hurts to travel, even lying
down. Stopped.

not met Ann before but knew from her kindness and ease of

handling she was a very, very caring person. Soon Dr. Bill came
in. Together they did the necessary procedures. An x-ray was
inevitable. Ouch, that hurt. Finally, Dr. Bill said the fusion was
safe, but I had torn ligaments and muscles around the sacrum.

Injections in the area would help. I wasn't so sure he was right

>^dien he put that needle in! However, time proved he was. I was

able to faction a tad above where I had been, and I made it

through the week-end. Monday, more injections. Dr. Bill

brou^t a whirlpool over to the house. Now, I want to share

with you just who lovely Aim and Dr. Bill are. He is Dr. Bill
Murphy, and she is Mrs. Murphy. I was at ease the moment I
was told they were members of the church to which we had
come for the meeting. Dr. Bill took care of my every need, gave
me medicines, and granted all their services as a gift of love.
Truly, these people know fully the meaning of Matthew 25:40,
"Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my
brethren, ye have done it unto me." They say something good
comes out of everything. Well, to have learned to know these
fine people was that GOOD in this case. Thank you. Bill and
Ann. We love you!
... Oct. 14, Friday. We had an interview scheduled at the local
radio station and then took advantage of the quietness of this
day. There would be no more till the meeting was over. Sharon
and Leroy Kinser, surely one of the greatest couples we have
come to know, had invited us and Roy and Nona to dinner.
Sharon fixed pizzas galore. Oh, they were so superb! She is a
bom cook and uses this talent God has given her to glorify His
name in every way. She is ALWAYS doing something in some
way to help somebody.
... Oct. 15, Saturday. Nona had to fix a "TIM'S MEAL".
People take care of his need for Mexican food. She knew how.
Later in the afternoon, we had a concert at the local nursing
home. South Hills Manor. The rest of the day was preparation
for tomorrow and the week to come.

... Oct. 16, Sunday. Bible School started at 9:45. Church

followed at 10:45, and then after the food for the soul, we had
food for the body. Food and fellowship time at Ae church.
Loved it. Jerry preached for the morning service. We sang, and
Tim played. This would be the format for the rest of Ae week.
The afternoon had time for a Sunday rest. NICE. Tim played a
mini-concert each evening, and I gave a children's stoiy. Love
those kids.... Tonight Jerry and Dr. Bill sang a duet. It was

beautifiil. Each ni^t a hanidrawn picture (by Tim) ofa grand

piano was given to the person who brought tiie most people to
the meeting. Sharon and Leroy had us again for fellowship time
after church

A wonderful start to a wonderful week.

... Oct. 17, Monday. Concert at Dimmitt High School. The kids
let Tim know in an enthusiastic way, "Hey, we're GLAD you
came." We were ^ad we went. You know, if you work that
hard, you've got to eat. George and Doris Gable are special.
They have a unique stone home, and the whole house blends in
with its beauty. Doris carried that beauty to the table. Their
son, Kent, honored us with his presence
Back to the doctor
and the rest of the injections.... Home for a rest till time for
church. Qaude and Ida Mae Moore took the Barringer's and us
to K-Bob's after a good evening service. Just being with this

happy couple makes you feel better. So delightful, we stayed till

we learned it was closing time.
...Oct. 18, Tuesday. Off to Dimmitt Junior High School.
Applause burst forth which left NO doubt they were enjoying
this experience. "Do you have to quit, Tim? This is so much
better than class." ... Time for a cup of coffee before we go
back to church. Noon time was lunch with Ethel and Othele

Fry. What a fantastic lady Ethel is! I got tired seeing all she does
and the ease with which she does it. In his earlier years, Othele
built their lovely home. His health has deteriorated, but they
maintain it far better than people who are healthy, along with
the gardening, cooking, housework, etc., Ethel is an excellent
seamstress. Her secret to the superb, bountiful meal and
well-cared for home is "Rise Early". God bless Ethel and
Othele. They are tremendous.... After lunch back to the

... Oct. 21, Friday. To Hereford, Texas, (20 miles) with Roy
and Nona today. Tliey had errands to run. The rainhas stopped,
and the weather is delightful. Competing against football, but

had a good crowd toni^t. Time had passed so quickly, a week

of excitement in the Lord's work with His people! We stretched
it as far as possible when they had tables laden with beautiful
goodies for a LINGER LONGER. Truly, that is what we did. So

hard to finally realize this is So-Long for now. How these people
showered us with their love and generosity in eveiy way! They
had truly become like family, yes, the FAMILY OF GOD. We
went to preach, sing, speak, play etc. - to bless them. We were

the ones who were blessed! Thank you, Dimmitt. We love you
all so much, and Nona and Roy, a special thanks to you all!
... Oct. 22, Saturday. We weren't out on a farm, but we had a

farm breakfast. Nona gave us the works. Then Jerry said, "Let's

middle school for a concert for the "Satellite School". Tliis is

be on our way." Melody said, "Do I have to? I've been so

for the mentally handicapped kids, their families, and the staff.
My, what a joy to share this time! The staff was so appreciative,
as well as the parents and guests.

comfortable." We insisted. You get old when you don't

exercise. She got in gear really quickly. Melody needed her
breakfast, so we found a gas station and got propane for her
furnace.... We were overwhelmed by the love of tWs town, but
a special warmth was felt when Jerry paid for the propane, the
man said, "Won't you come in and have coffee with us?" How

Idnd. On our way now.... A little knoll on a city street in

Brownfield, Texas, gave us a good spot to have our lunch, and
we enjoyed delicious sandwiches from the linger longer last
night. Soon we arrived in Big Spring, Texas. Keith, the minister,
and Sharna Gibbons met us at the Christian Church. We met

Keith and Sharna several years ago, and they asked us to come

to the church when going throu^. This was a good time. They

met us at the church at about 4:00 p.m. Keith and Jerry made
Melody most comfortable just beside the church building under
a big light, and then we went to their home where we ate
dinner. "We want you to see the city," they said, and away we
went. We were absolutely amazed at the beauty of Big Spring!!
One has no idea from the interstate. It is interesting and so
pretty. We went to the top of the cliff in the park and saw a
spectacular sunset. My mind sang the song, "Beyond the
Sunset". I just knew God gave us this very special, beautiful
scene to once again remind us how much He loves us and that

He died for me, but He has risen and is my Savior! Someday I'll
be with Him.... Keith's car seemed to know, without any
instructions, just where Baskin-Robbins was. Tim inhaled a
Peanut Butter & Chocolate double-decker cone. Time to hit the

hay.
WE'VE COME TO A CROWNING DAY AND THE END!

... Oct. 23, Sunday. Beautiful, sparkling morning. Thank you,

God, for this day. Use us.... Bible School at 9:45 - we spoke.
Tim played for the worship service. Another delectable meal at
Keith and Shama's and then back to the church. A special
concert had been planned by the A.R.C. (Association of

... Oct. 19, Wednesday. Weather changed. RAIN and WIND.

Nice day to sleep in. A quiet morning. Then to ANN'S
RESTAURANT for lunch. Aim is a memberof the church, and

she and her husband, Ernest Mayhew, have a thriving restaurant.

It is because Ann loves everybody and whamps up a fantastic

smorgasboard. She said, "Ya'll come and be our guests." That

didn't take any coaxing. It's hard to say good-night to Nona and
Roy each evening as there is so much to talk about.

... Oct. 20, Thursday. Jerry and Roy tended to their work, and
Nona and I did our things. Soon time to go back to see what
was on ANN'S Smorgasboard. This invitation came from LeRoy

and Linda Maxwell. They have a precious family, and it's easy
to see why when we were around Linda and LeRoy.... Ann

and Dr. BiU, Jerry and I sang a quartet toni^t. They have

beautiful voices. We all thrilled when Kristie Kinser was buried

with her Lord in Christian baptism tonight. It brings to mind so

vividly how much Jesus loved children. Matthew 19:14, "But

Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and don't prevent
them for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven."' (LB) Still misty
and rainy.

Retarded Citizens), ^en we set the date with Keith, he called

the director of the Big Spring ARC, and they were delighted to
have been invited. In their conversation she informed Keith

there were NOWORSHIP services in Big Spring for the mentally

handicapped. Keith became aware of a great need really quickly
and told her they would do something about it. Plans began to
lay in place. They would have a special service each Sunday for
any mentally handicapped person who wanted to come and for
their families. Excitement mounted. Keith became acquainted

with the people and developed an empathy for their needs,

workers, families, and the handicapped ^emselves. Set date for

the first gathering would be Tim's concert. There were 42

happy, wonderful, excited people, uniting on the need that the
mentally handicapped NEED Christ, too. They were with Tim
every beat of the songs, and the applause was explosive. I could
not hold back the tears. The ARC served refreshments, and Tim
was overjoyed to have this time to share with all of them, and
we were, too. The first attendance was excellent, for many were
sick or gone. The potential is unlimited.... Keith has a vision,
and God will bless his efforts. An additional blessing - Sharna is
a Special Education teacher. She, too, shares the interest and

concern that Keith has. Oh, that the saying "Go thou and do
likewise" was imprinted in the hearts of people across the
country.... Finished this tremendous aftemoon in time to rest

a bit, and then Keith and Shama came, and we had a lucious
dessert she made. We shared in prayer for the BLESSINGS of
the day and asked God to bless our travel. We would be

We have had deep sadness: Our forwarding agent, Mrs. Max

(Pink) Snyder and her husband have been like family since I can
remember. Max became ill suddenly and passed away with
cancer November 10. He was a pillar in my home church, North
Industry Christian, served as an elder, Sunday School teacher,
and sang bass in the choir. You name it, and Max and Pink were

homeward bound.

In just minutes it was the moment for the FINAL concert of

this season's tour. We had visions of Tim playing everything in
the musical term "ALLEGRO" (fast). Though he loves being on
the road, 7 months out is a LONG time. (We were ALL most
eager to get home.) Surprising he didn't! It was a very well
received concert and soon over. Though we were happy to be
going home, suddenly a feeling of sadness the tour was
over.... Hurriedly we prepared for travel. We thought we
would drive several hours and then sleep. Jeriy and I were both
so excited from the wonderful day and dl that unfolded that we
drove all night (see beginning of newsletter "Gleanings with
Meanings"). As we were going down the highway, a truck passed
us. It was about 10:45. Then it slowed down. Jerry never drives
fast. He said, "I don't believe this." I said, "What don't you
believe?" "That someone is going SLOWER than I am." I
laughed and said, "Well, it's true." Jerry followed a little; we
realized something was wrong, or something. Jerry said, "I guess
I'll pass him." I got scared. I said, "Oh, honey, he wants you to
stop. What will we do?" An arm was waving at us. 1 rolled the
window down to see if I could find out the problem, but THEN
we were close enough. I said, "Honey, it's Ed - Ed Weckerly."
We drove side by side for a few minutes. We told liim we'd soon
be home.... He said, "You have 300 miles yet!" After 10,000
miles plus we felt like we were almost home. Ed had been to
Dallas, was picking up wife, Donna, in Midland, would sleep a

God has a better plan, and we must accept it for that. Max
strengthened every life he touched, and we loved him so very
much! Pray for Pink that she may make this adjustment in her
life, realizing God will never leave her. We are humbled and
grateful for all Max and Pink have done to help us in our
ministry, always willing to help, spending unselfish hours,
without pay. (For those who may not know, our forwarding
agent handles all of the mission money and keeps the records.
This entails a lot of work.)

Happenings with Tim are: He is practicing LONG hours every

day. He practices all moming, rides a bit in the afternoon, and

hits the piano again before ^ner, and then practices most of
the evening. He has been playing lots of new music and is
excited about it all. We have a very heavy DECEMBER already
but have tried to keep November free.
We have no idea the songs he knows. Usually he will surprise
us, play it, and then say, "How do you like that song?" Well, he

pulled a fast one on us in the Big Spring concert. They clapped

for an encore. He played his choice of songs, and THEN we
didn't know what he was playing, BUT it was beautiful!! He's
used it ever since, and it meets with gre?t approval. Things like
that add to our already GREY hair.

bit, and go on home. >^en he saw "Melody" on the

motorhome, he knew there was only ONE MELODY, and it had
to be us. It was a joy to see Ed. We traveled on, and suddenly
about 3:00 a.m., we discovered it was just us, Melody, and the
rabbits on the highway; however, God was awake, the stars
twinkled. The oudine of the cacti, brush, and rocks and

mountains were again reminders of His unerring, resplendent

creation. This was a trip to behold. Then before long, we came
up over a knoll, and we could see millions of city liglits beaming

bristly. It was what I call "NEVER NEVER LAND". ... You

feel sure you're never gonna get there! Tlie morning began to
softly surround us, and the night time faded away, and we
viewed Home El Paso. It's GOOD to be back.... The sun was

about to filter through when we reached 2501 Portland, and it

greeted us in its full glory within a short time. Our home had
received the Tender Loving Care of Ruth Ann Lovelady, Holly
HoUinden, and Mike Padilla. It was perfect. I suddenly realized
how many people are a part of our lives here and ALL OVER
THE COUNTRY.... Now the sensible thing to do would be to
go to bed. I still wasn't ready. Jerry and Tim caved in about
8:30 a.m. I did a few more odd jobs and was about to go when
the phone started ringing.... I gave up.

ALBUM UPDATE
We received word that the "Master" of Tim's new album

would be cut on November 14 (Monday). On Wednesday Fred,

the producer, will hand cariy it to Indianapolis to RCA, and
production of the albums (records) and cassette tapes will be
made there. It will go through all the testing, etc., and then the
final clearance, and should be ready in 3 to 4 weeks. We should
have it in time for Christmas mailing. We hope you consider it
for a lasting gift. We have not heard the product yet but KNOW
that what Fred produces will be fine. I said to Jerry today,
"Fred has said they have had a ball working with the record,
and also there has been a lot of sweat." I said, "I wonder if he
has ever worked so hard having fun?" The title chosen is "THE
IMPOSSIBLE DREAM." Truly, at one time, it seemed ONLY
that. More about the album elsewhere in this issue and inside
stories NEXT ISSUE.

RESTORATION AND PREPARATION

.. . October 24, Monday. Part of today was in yesterday since it

didn't have any starting and stopping! My only reservation
about being home is HOW DO we go about catching up on the

BACKLOG of work. I really haven't figured that out yet!!! We

just keep plugging away. Tim was soon up and out on his bike.
He couldn't wait to start his rounds of seeing all the people he
loves so much.

... October 25, Tuesday and on through to November 1. Seems

a bit strange to be adjusting to this type of a schedule. IT DOES
TAKE ADJUSTING. Personal needs eyes, teeth, etc. must
be taken care of. Hopefully a Christmas with a tree up this year
(We usually have come home Christmas eve, too bushed to
care.), and it will be our first Thanksgiving here for two years,
so that will be different, too.

and the amount continues to escalate. Our billis huge (BUT not
nearly as huge if it weren't for the missionary printers we have).
Last bill was a total of $1165.90. It included a Special Edition
of all newsletters through 1982, printed and combined in book
form (1000); 2,000 concert programs we give out every place
we go, where desired; 3200 copies of the last newsletter; plates
for new names and changes of addresses, and printing and
mailing. A continuous reprint of all our material is done as we
run out, it is replaced. Our income for October was as follows:
for peisonal mission support $1,093.56, for concerts and
evangelistic meetings - $1,539.42, for a total of $2,632.42.

Our expenses gasoline, printing, convention booth and

expenses while at the convention, motorhome insurance,
repairs, etc. have amounted to over $1,700.00. Usually the

concerts take care of the road expenses; however, the bluest

item is printing. We have finished paying for the last newsletter.
At this time we have the expense of this one. We will be happy
to answer any questions concerning our finances. Any profit
from the book and Tim's first tape are included in our income.
When possible, we put what we can into a trust fund for him.
