On 2/20/10, at about 9:05 p.m., Bakersfield Police Officers Paul Yoon and Rudy Beruman
attempted to stop a 1993 Honda Civic at Monterey Street and Beale Avenue for traffic violations.
The driver of the Honda stopped initially but sped away when the officers exited their patrol car to
contact them. The suspects led the officers on a pursuit during which one of the three suspects
shot at the officers through the rear window of the Honda several times throughout the pursuit.
The driver of the vehicle finally stopped in the 1000 block of Clyde Street and the front seat
passenger and the shooter ran south on Clyde Street whilst the driver ran north east. Officer
Beruman, who was the passenger officer, fired multiple times at the shooter as he pursued him
on foot; however, he lost both suspects after they ran west through the housing complex and then
south across Potomac Street. A perimeter was immediately set and during a yard to yard search
officers detected suspicious activity at a residence in the 1200 block of Potomac Street and
ultimately detained three male juveniles thought to be responsible for the offense.

At the time, probable cause existed for their arrest. The aforementioned continued investigation
has since exonerated the three juveniles and subsequently all charges against them have been
dismissed and they have been released from custody.

The investigation is continuing.
