But, although the pain
associated with losing a
loved one is unavoidable,

The important thing to remember is

that there is no right or wrong way to
feel. You might collapse under the weight
of all the emotions hitting you at once, or
you may experience the stages of grief

Its generally accepted that there are
several stages of grief: these can include
feelings of shock, anger, despair, denial,
and pain, before acceptance, adjustment
and moving on.
Dont expect to go through these emotions one after the other, but do expect to
feel them over time.
Sometimes grief is just too much to
bear. It might engulf your whole life, leaving everything seemingly chaotic and out
of control.
You might be left feeling shocked and
numb, perhaps angry or guilty, or perhaps, you might feel an overwhelming
sadness.
All of these feelings are ok and you
should give yourself time to work
through them as they will ease with time.
Talking and sharing your feelings with
someone can help youre not alone.

Even if you dont have family or friends

around you, there is support available.
Why not speak to your GP for help or call
Cruse on 0844 4779400?
Your GP could put you in touch with a
bereavement counsellor who will give
you the time and space to talk about your
thoughts and feelings.
Sometimes grief doesnt hit for many
years after the person has died or sometimes it can go on for years: either way a
bereavement counsellor can help.
Finally, dont be afraid to talk about
the person who has died. Perhaps those
around you arescared to mention them
in case it causes upset, but sometimes
remembering your loved one and talking
about them can ease the pain a little.
The gov.uk website has information
on what to do after someone dies, such
as registering the death and planning a
funeral.
