    Aristotle described different forms of government as either pure or corrupt. Pure governments include monarchy, where one ruler holds power for the benefit of all; aristocracy, where the most qualified citizens rule; and republic/democracy, where citizens vote to elect leaders. Corrupt governments are tyranny, where one abuses power for their own benefit; oligarchy, where a small elite group rules selfishly; and demagoguery, where leaders appeal to emotions over reason to gain power. Aristotle believed pure governments rule for the general public's interests while corrupt governments serve only themselves or a select few.
