Course Objectives
Ability to design and to verify the adequacy of design of
component elements of a structure and their connections
to resist internal forces and bending moments based on
the LRFD method,
Ability to comprehend and apply the specifications of the
American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) as it
relates to the design steel structures,
Design project to the current professional parctice
standards.

Anyone missing a schedule exam must notify the
instructor and the department office in advances.

This course will be conducted under the Universitys

I-35W Highway Bridge Collapse


13 people died & 145 people were injured (August 1st, 2007)
Collapse initiated with failure of gusset plates. These undersized
gusset plates were roughly half the thickness required.
