Preventing ESD

B-3

This section provides guidelines for preventing electrical injury and protecting components
from electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage.

ALWAYS power equipment OFF at the Power Switch.

Regardless of the type of procedure, set all Power Switches to OFF when servicing the
game, Top Box, or other equipment.
Unplug equipment from the outlet if not handling ESD-sensitive components.

Exercise caution when working around electrical equipment.

ALWAYS wear an ESD wrist strap.

Fasten a resistive type (1 or 10 Meg) ESD wrist strap on arm and ensure that it makes good
skin contact, Figure B-1 (A). Secure the clip end of the wrist strap to a nearby ground point.

Suggested ground points are:

An unpainted or bare exposed metal area of the game cabinet or equipment enclosure.

Any labeled ESD common ground point, Figure B-1.

Figure B-1 ESD wrist strap (left) and ESD common ground point symbol (right).

Ground equipment when handling ESD-sensitive components.

When accessing printed circuit boards (PCBs) or components in direct contact with PCBs,
including EPROMs, CompactFlash Cards, and PCD connectors, connect the three-prong
equipment line cord to a properly grounded outlet. Then, secure the clip end of the ESD wrist
strap to an unpainted or bare exposed metal area of the game cabinet or equipment
enclosure.

Properly Secure and Before performing any service tasks, the game (and Top/Accessory Box, if applicable) must be
Vent all Equipment properly secured as described in the Service Manual. All WMS cabinets and associated
equipment (including Top/Accessory Box, controllers, etc.) must be properly installed. Upright
games must be mounted to a stand using four bolts, and all stands must be bolted to the floor,
a wall, or secured back-to-back. Slant games must be installed back-to-back or back against a
wall. WMS Upright (BBU/BB2/BB2e/Blade) and Slant (BBS/BBS-W) cabinets require a
minimum of 6 inches (15 cm) clearance on both sides and at the rear to allow for proper
ventilation. WMS BBxD and GameField xD cabinets may be placed side by side, but require a
minimum of 6 inches (15 cm) clearance at the rear to allow for proper ventilation. Failure to fully
secure and vent games may cause injury and equipment damage.

Properly Ground Avoid electrical shocks by using proper grounding at all times. Do not plug in the gaming device
Gaming Devices until you inspect and verify the outlet. Only connect WMS equipment to grounded, three-wire
outlets. Do not use a cheater plug to defeat the AC Line Cords ground pin. Do not cut off the
ground pin. After servicing a gaming device, ensure that the ground wires are secure.

Recommended
Maximum Power
Measurement
Process for a Third
Party AC Device

All measurements shall be performed under maximum normal load. Maximum normal load is
defined as all available features, inputs, and outputs that were designed to be used are in an
active state. The test shall be performed under normal operating conditions. As part of the
normal operating conditions, the test should be performed at +55C (131F) ambient
temperature to replicate the Blade internal cabinet temperature. In addition, the measurements
shall not be performed under any abnormal operating conditions such as a fault state or short.
To ensure consistency for the maximum power measurements for the third party AC device, the
following procedure is recommended:

Service Manual & User Guide

16-1408191

Connect an AC RMS current meter in series with the "HOT" (AC in) for the third party AC
device.

Plug in the third party AC device and ensure that the device has its maximum load applied to
it without introducing any abnormal operating condition (i.e. If the device has 5 ports available
for use, ensure that all 5 ports are being utilized at their normal operating conditions).

Place the AC RMS current meter to Amps and "peak" detect.

Exercise the Third Party AC Device for 5 minutes. This exercise for the third party AC device
will mimic actual use.

Record the AC RMS current from the meter.

Measure the AC voltage.

Multiply the AC RMS current with the AC voltage to determine power.

Ensure that the power calculated does not exceed 60 Watts.

A ratio of 1 to 25 between the lowest denomination and the highest denomination cannot be

Perform a RAM Clear.

Reconfigure the EGM to a

denomination range that does not
exceed the 1 to 25 ratio.

(This message displays upon

returning the game to play and is
only viewable to the attendant
configuring the EGM.)

The denomination restriction is not expected to affect casino implementations of these themes,
as most operators configure either single denominations or a range of similar denominations.
The denomination restriction ins required to address the potential for multiple progressive wins
with a single spin. Since the strike price for the progressive is scaled based on the lowest
configured denomination, and the players contribution increases at larger denominations, it is
possible that a player may win an excessive number of progressives on a single spin without the
restriction.

ESD Prevention

ESD Prevention

3-3

Depending on the procedure, measures must be taken to prevent electrical shock and/or
electrostatic discharge (ESD) when servicing the game.
NOTE
Observe all appropriate safety and ESD precautions listed in Preventing ESD on page 1-4.

Ladder Safety

Observe the following guidelines when using a ladder:

Read and follow all instructions from the ladder manufacturer, including labels and markings
on the ladder.

Avoid electrical hazards. Do not place a ladder on cables or near electrical outlets.

Always inspect the ladder prior to using it. If the ladder is damaged, it must be removed from
service and tagged until repaired or discarded.

Do not use a self-supporting ladder (for example, a step ladder) as a single ladder or in a
partially closed position.

Do not use the top step or rung of a ladder as a step or rung unless it was designed for that
purpose.

Always maintain a three-point (two hands and a foot, or two feet and a hand) contact on the
ladder when climbing. Keep your body near the middle of the step and always face the ladder
when climbing.

Only use ladders and appropriate accessories (ladder levelers, jacks, or hooks) within design
specifications and for intended purposes.

Ladders must be free of any slippery material on the rungs, steps, or feet.

Use a ladder only on a stable and level surface.

Do not place a ladder on boxes, barrels, or other unstable bases to obtain additional height.

Do not move or shift a ladder while a person or equipment is on the ladder.

A ladder placed in any location where it can be displaced by other work activities must be
secure to prevent displacement, or a barricade must be erected to keep traffic away from the
ladder.

Be sure that all locks on an extension ladder are properly engaged.

Do not exceed the maximum load rating of a ladder. Be aware of the ladder load rating and of the
weight it is supporting, including the weight of any tools or equipment.
