General
The "International System of units", identified internationally
as "SI" (Systme International d'Units), is replacing the older
systems used in science and technology throughout the world.
lt has been adopted by a resolution of the "Conference
Generale des Poids et Mesures" (CGPM) as ISO
Recommendation R 1000, in February 1969.
There is a SI base unit for each of the physical quantities:
length, mass, time, electric current, thermodynamic
temperature, and luminous intensity, which by convention are
regarded as being dimensionally independent. The SI unit of
any other quantity is derived by dimensionally appropriate
simple multiplications and divisions of the SI base units
without the introduction of any numerical factors. Such a
system of units is called "coherent". lt is also independent of
the effects of earth's gravity.
There is a strict distinction between the mass with the kg as its
unit and the weight, that is the force due to gravity, given in
the new unit N (newton). The force of 1 N will give the mass of
1 kg an acceleration of 1 m/s.

between comparative data for the above units. The formula will work providing
that all workings are based upon accurately measured data using calibrated
equipment.
