OBJECTIVES

To identify the specific uses of petroleum

and its fractions.
To identify the contributions of petroleum
and natural gas to the economic
development of the country.
To identify efficient ways of using
petroleum and other natural resources.

CONTRIBUTION OF PETROLEUM AND

NATURAL GAS T0 THE ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT OF MALAYSIA
Oil, gas and energy are an essential driving force for any modern economy.
Under the astute management of PETRONAS, the domestic oil and gas industry
has played a crucial role in the growth of the Malaysian economy. However, after
decades of oil and gas production, our domestic resources will inevitably start to
deplete. To prepare for this, we will strengthen other value creating activities in
the oil and gas value chain and ensure that we have a sustainable energy
platform for the future. To this end, the Government will develop Malaysia into a
leading oil and gas services hub in Asia, grow Malaysias role in oil storage,
logistics and trading and import LNG to serve latent gas demand and attract
new-gas based industries. At the same time we will ensure that we develop an
energy efficient, diversified and sustainable energy mix to power our future.
-YAB Dato Seri Mohd. Najib Tun Abdul Razak

2. Job opportunities

PETRONAS is one of the biggest companies in Malaysia which has offered

many job opportunities and has helped in Malaysias economy.

EFFICIENT WAYS OF USING PETROLEUM AND

NATURAL GASES
1. Drive on biodiesel
Using biodiesel in place of petroleum-based diesel reduces emissions and petroleum dependence.
Biodiesel can be used in most newer models of heavy-duty and light-duty diesel vehicles without
modification, and all manufacturers have approved the use of B5 (5% biodiesel, 95% petroleum
diesel) with no impact to warranties.

2. Don't sit idle

An idling vehicle gets 0 mpg. Yet drivers in the world waste billions of gallons of fuel every year by
running their engines while going nowhere. Reducing idling time has many benefits, including
reductions in fuel use, fuel costs, emissions, noise, and engine wear.

3. Drive safely
Small changes in driver behavior can have big impacts on fuel economy. By breaking bad habits like
jackrabbit starts, speeding, aggressive driving, and carrying unnecessary cargo, drivers can reduce
fuel use by 10% to 20%.

4. Use other alternatives

Thousands of fleet managers, business owners, state and local officials, and other transportation
decision makers across the country have blazed the trail toward petroleum-free transportation, so
there's no need to reinvent the wheel. Before you undertake an initiative of your own, find out how
others have successfully deployed alternative fuels, pushed the envelope on fuel economy, and
achieved fleet efficiencies.

5. Use hybrid cars

When it comes to fueling your fleet, gasoline and diesel aren't the only options out there. It's possible
to achieve emissions reductions and/or cost savings by using alternative fuels likepropane, natural
gas, electricity, biodiesel, ethanol, and hydrogen. Take a spin through hybrid cars which use only 50%
of fuel, and help save the environment!
