Theme of NFOT: Harnessing Talents Toward ASEAN Integration

The ASEAN integration is a thrust from 10 different countries. It promotes
economic growth, social progress, and cultural development. Further, it
encourages the formation of competent, knowledgeable and culturally sensitive
individuals, as well as forge a common identity through regional unity and
solidarity.
One of the programs in the ASEAN integration, is the preservation and promotion
of cultural heritage. In this connection, the DepEd organized the NFOT to address
the aims and goals of the program. This event is a gateway of opportunities to
showcase talents and potentials that reflect cultural diversity of the Philippines
in different fields such as language, arts, social studies and technology and
livelihood education. Through this event, participants develop a sense of Filipino
identity as they learn to appreciate and widen their understanding of local and
regional cultures.
The 2015 sining tanghalan reinforces cultural identities of each region
through various forms of art. This event showcases the extraordinary talents and
skills aquired by students in various art areas.
Dance is one form of art expression that could portray a message through
artistic movements. One of the significant message projected by dance is by
showing ones unique culture. Moreover, as dancers hone their talents through
dance performances, they develop personal discipline and sense of
belongingness that lead them to achieve responsibilty and become competent in
their field of endeavor.
Music, as another form of creative communication, is one way to present
unique Filipino culture through Original Pilipino Music or OPM. By honing a
musicians talents, oneself is expressed through the lyrics of the song
accompanied by the unique melody and rhythm of instruments. Besides, it
grants opportunities for young singers to develop and harness their intelligence
in musical writing and composition in order to unfold ones cultural riches.
Theater Arts is another form of talent that could communicate what people
think, feel and see. It fills empty stages with a colorful reflection of the
performers who are considered undisputable young artists of our country. It is
one of a kind talent that needs to be haones culture through acting different
emotions and personalities.

Media Arts is an eye-- an eye that captures different moments in life and
sees the beauty of the world. It is a training ground for students to see things in
different perspectives. It is an art that allows students to capture and project
emotions through photography and filmmaking by showing ones culture. In
broadcasting, it also endows the viewers with recent issues. In documentary film,
it lets the viewers explore the vast world of ideas through lenses of the camera.
Visual Arts is a means of expressing young artists vision and perception
through artistic emotions and creative thoughts. They draw, paint, sketch, or

draft what they visualize is right using their own styles and concepts. This gives
impact and motivation to the life of an artist. Various themes or genre of visual
arts can influence lives. A message conveyed by a masterpiece could touch
ones heart and soul. A visual artist can make people happy, sad, angry, inloved,
hurt and relaxed.
Creative writing develops students to become imaginative and productive
in their own special way. Through their writings, a reader may experience the
significance of life. It is in this field of endeavor that thoughts, words and wisdom
are invested which can change peoples lives. Creative artists may influence
peoples attitude and insight. They write to give pleasure and entertainment to
their readers.
As students perform the arts, they learn the significant message of what
they dance, sing, act, shoot, draw and write. This makes an artists life more
meaningful. As they grow, they will carry and nurture what they learn with
flourishing passion and enjoyment. The regional festival of talents and other arts
competitions is one of the greatest opportunity for student to become capable
and efficient. The special program in the arts students are very fortunate for
experiencing this wonderful training for 3 consecutive years. Truly, they have
developed into competent individuals.

To cultivate and preserve the culture through arts in Western Visayas, the
2015 Regional Festival of Talents was recently conducted at Belison National
School,Province of Anitique. This event is a gateway of opportunities to
showcase talents and potentials and to enhance learning in different fields such
as language, arts, and technology. The theme of this event is Cultivating and
Preservation of Culture through Arts wherein students experience and learn
different performing arts through culture-based teaching approach. This enriches
their understanding and appreciation of local culture which they could be proud
of.
