SUMMARY

Whether were talking about a sports team, work team, school team, health care
team or home based business team, its essential that we get everyone on the bus and
moving in the right direction with a shared vision, focus, purpose and direction. Unity is the
key of all. According to Hj. Samat Buang, (2011), unity is defined as the combination of
energy, thoughts and sacrifices in a strong and solid bonding. Being a country of diverse
races, cultures and religions, Malaysia in indeed unique in proving how its diversity could be
united and harnessed for nation building. However in the context of education, it seems that
the unity is not sufficient enough to compete with the global level of education.
It is a fact that our national education is getting improved every year, however there
is still a serious gap in academic achievement of rural-urban primary and secondary schools
in Malaysia. While schools in urban areas are improving and reaching greater achievements,
schools in rural areas are most likely to be left behind in term of education. Outstanding
schools and students are not uncommon in our nation but students in the high-need, low
performing opposing end of the spectrum are even less so and the gap between these
continues to grow, even as our levels in international test scores continue to decline.
Education inequity is a real and mounting problem in our country. In order to overcome this
issue, The Deputy Prime Minister recently launched the Malaysia Education Blueprint (20132025) with a great aim which is to bridge the gap in academic achievement of rural-urban
primary and secondary schools in Malaysia.
Our nations drive towards a high-income economy sits incongruously besides
struggling classrooms like those in rural areas. There are so many students in rural areas
who are eager to stay in learn in school because they want to see the world outside. With
hard work, grit and an incredible amount of guidance and support, they can do and be
anything they want to be. And if they can achieve their dreams of being engineers, ICT
specialists, or astronauts, even, Malaysia too can do more than dream to achieve her
highest aspirations. Cooperation from all parties and races are needed to fulfil this dream.
At the end of the day, it can be concluded that national Unity is very vital and is the
key to Malaysias success. Equality in education is needed to develop an outstanding result
of education. Whether Malaysia will become a fully developed nation by the year 2020 will
depend on a number of important factors, the most important being national unity. Unity
should therefore be the basis of all programmes and activities for nation building.
Malaysians should be more conscious of their role and contribution towards national unity

which is paramount to the nations growth and development. The process of establishing a
united Malaysian nation is fraught with challenges and what has been achieved so far must
be nurtured.
