AB English? Unsa lugar imung future anah nga course te?.
These questions even
until now are still freshed in my mind. My parents asked with a stupefied face when they found out that I have decided to take AB English. To be honest, I also did not know why I chose the said program. I chose it without even knowing what could be my possible career paths after I graduate. However, I was sure of two things; firstly I believe the course would help me hone my skills and secondly it would form me into a better person. The program has engaged me in various activities which have widened my linguistic skills, built my confidence to speak even in front of an enormous crowd, formed my analytic ability and taught me to deal with people and given me the opportunity to lead. I enjoyed learning the right pronunciation of words and use of English expressions which most of us thought are correct. I am always amazed how my fellow English majors interpret poetries and poems; much more how our English instructors gave their analysis on a particular literary work. I laughed at myself realizing my incompetency. But I did my best and worked well to be competent in the course I chose to study. There were times I struggled in the program which is just normal for us to experience. It is more terrible if you havent undergone any difficulty in your program. hehe. As the years passed, I have loved the program and I am thankful that in return it has loved me as well. As I will enter the new chapter of my life I wouldnt be reciting Macbeths soliloquy or Shakespeares and Jose Garcia Villas sonnets, neither will I share to my workmates the imageries can be found in Kate Lowells narrative poem Patterns, the point of view of the story House Full of Daughters by______ nor the mood being expressed in Lino Brockas Tinimbang ka Ngunit Kulang (which this movie made me conclude that the Philippine Cinema in the past was commendable to watch compared of todays). However, the lessons I have gained from the literary pieces I have read, watched and interpreted are so helpful for me to understand what life is all about and how to make my decisions. Giving an interpretation is not based in your own understanding but most importantly based it on how the text is presented. Thoroughly understand what is the in the text and how the story goes before you express your thoughts. Hence, which is the same way as how we should criticize people, you must not judge based on what you think but carefully know the people first before you blast a lot of criticisms. Even using a particular literary approach is so valuable to comprehend why a person acts this way or why a society exists the way it is right now. Moreover, my learnings in language courses are very helpful for me to appropriately use the words and exemplify actions towards people. I am lucky because I have known how to read subtexts and indirect words and actions. Hahaha! Anyway, the learnings in both in literature and language courses are so applicable as I and my fellow graduating English majors will enter the reality. There are so many people whom I thank for supporting and challenging me to work well. Words of gratitude are not enough to express how I am so blessed that you have been part of my life. To all the English faculty members thank you so much for helping
