SAFETY FIRST - DOLPHINS WIN

IN DRAMATIC FASHION
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Perth,WA | The Perth Cougars had fought hard to
desperately cling to a chance of victory and stay in the
race for the finals. Big American Tight End DC Jefferson
had just scored a touchdown that had tied the game up
and back to back sacks had given the Cougars the ball
back. They were however starting from their own 9 yard
line with just 1m28 remaining but momentum was now
definitely on their side. Quarterback Jake Furmingher took
the first snap and rolled to his right trying to buy time. His
deep drop had him in the endzone and then the pressure
came. Much to the relief of the home fans he just got the
ball away but it dribbled incomplete. Surely he and the
Cougars Coaches would learn from that. Next drop and
from the shotgun Furmingher noticed Corner Tai Chisholm
creeping forward on a blitz. Furmingher took the snap and
worked deep before pushing up to avoid Chishilm. What he
did not see was the other Corner Tharold SImon also
coming with pressure and SImon blindsided him for the
Sack, Safety and Win. The Cougars were stunned and the
Dolphins could not believe their luck but once again the
Dolphins get home on gutsy, roll the dice play calling.
The Dolphins established a solid run game early
and Ethan McLory scored twice after long drives. But
matching this was the play of Cougars wide out Aaron
Dobson. Dobson was outstanding on screens and just
when the Dolphins pressed to shut him down, Furminger
found him deep down the right for his first score. The
second was working back on a screen and he took that
one 27 yards.
The Cougars were playing up in the box and using
press coverage to shut down the Dolphins qui ck throws.
Rhys Hunt picked up on this and put Marquise Goodwin
away deep after he beat the coverage off the line.
Goodwin's 45 yard score gave the Dolphins a 21-17 third
quarter lead. Steve Lobwein made it 24-17 with a field
goal before Furmingher set the scene for the dramatic
ended when he found Jefferson in the end zone.
