From the
Whether you're a freshman or a senior, I urge
you to take advantage of Clemson's 2015 Career
Fair (see below), September 15 and 16 from
noon to 4pm at the Fike Recreation Center.
Seniors who are in the midst of job hunting
probably don't need any encouragement to attend the Career Fair. There will be hundreds of
potential employers there, covering positions in
careers appropriate to every major. You won't
want to miss this event.
But the Career Fair is also a great place for juniors, sophomores, and even freshmen. You can
use the Career Fair to build your network, to
learn more about various careers and industries,
and to look for summer internships and co-op
programs. Try to do some homework before you
go, so you can ask informed questions, but don't
be afraid to use the Career Fair as a great learning opportunity.
So mark your calendars for two weeks from now,
and plan to spend some time at the Career Fair.
Happy hunting!

Departmental Honors Research projects in the fall and spring
semesters. These competitive grants may be used for such

other items beyond the capacity of the student's department

PRIORITY DEADLINES for Fall 2015
The NSF GRFP is a generous and prestigious award that supports research-oriented students in science, engineering and mathematics disciplines through funding for graduate school (annual $34,000 stipend plus
$12,000 Cost of Education Allowance).
To be eligible, applicants must be either rising seniors or 1st year or 2nd year graduate students, and be US
Citizens or Permanent Residents. Eligible fields of study are: Chemistry, Computer and Information Science
and Engineering, Engineering, Geosciences, Life Sciences, Material Research, Mathematical Sciences, Physics

National deadlines are October 26 - 30, depending on field of study. More details are at
www.nsfgrfp.org.
A series of two workshops and two drop-in help sessions to help students prepare competitive applications for
the GRFP will be offered at Clemson. You do not need to pre-register to attend any of these workshops. The
focus and content of each workshop is different, so it is recommended that students applying for the GRFP
attend both workshops.
This workshop introduces the GRFP, eligibility guidelines, the GRFP review process, NSF review criteria, features of successful applications, and tips on getting started.
Workshop 2: Writing the NSF GRFP Personal Statement, Relevant Background and Future

Thursday, September 17
7pm 200 Holtzendorff Hall

your research and career plans. This workshop will also focus on how to write effectively about your research
plan in ways that meet the NSF review criteria, as well as writing and revision strategies.
