Art Therapists Release New Digital
Publication – FUSION
Arts Unbound is dedicated to teaching
professional skills in the visual arts and
providing exhibition opportunities to
emerging and established artists with
disabilities. This year we are also
launching a separate program in art
therapy that will allow us to explore
therapeutic intervention in the arts for
select persons.
Thanks to the support of the Grotta
Fund for Senior Care and the
assistance and advice of Caldwell
College and the NJ Art Therapy
Association, this program will work with
senior citizens with emotional
challenges in Essex, Morris and Union

CHRISTIAN MARKOVIC
Christian Markovic is an artist who was
the first deaf-blind person to graduate
from the Savannah College of Art and
Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He
currently operates his own graphic
design business and designs clothing,
greeting cards and fine art. A veteran
artist with Arts Unbound, Christian
continues to expand his interest to other
art media, create t-shirts and other
merchandise for Arts Unbound and his
own business. Christian’s life story and
work were reported by the Star Ledger on
January 24th of last week.

released quarterly and focus on
information exchange, resources,
and news about art therapists' work
throughout the world, with an
emphasis on how art changes lives
and transforms individuals and
communities.
Art therapy is a form of treatment
that uses art materials as form of
self-discovery, behavioral change,
and stress reduction. Art therapists
use traditional psychotherapy
techniques along with their
understanding of the psychological
aspects of the creative process and
art materials. As healthcare
professionals, art therapists are
employed in many clinical settings
with diverse populations.
Art therapy can be found in
community settings as well, such as
in art studios and in workshops that
focus on creative development,
self-expression, and skill-building. Art
therapists work with children,
adolescents, and adults and
provide treatment to individuals,
couples, families, groups, and
communities.
Currently, IATO's initiatives include
the advancement of collaborative
research projects among its
approximately 1800 members. The
Art Therapy Alliance
(arttherapyalliance.org) was
founded in 2008 by Gretchen Miller,
ATR-BC, and is a professional group
with close to 1000 members around
the world that promotes the field of
art therapy through news, discussion
boards, and social networking
opportunities. Art Therapy Alliance
and IATO recently co-sponsored a
global art event using digital
technology to create a worldwide
art gallery the theme:
ART PEACE SUSTAINABILITY.

Non-Profits Create Stronger Bond

with Social Media
Social media is beginning to transform non-profits
both in the way they work as well as their relationships
with supporters and key participants.

Social media is enabling individuals to create, join,

and grow groups around issues they care about
outside of the direct control of a non-profit. Whether
flash activists or fundraising events like Twestival,
activities like these are on the rise.

The social web lets people who work in non-profit

organizations connect and collaborate informally
across institutional boundaries quickly and
inexpensively. Non-profit organizations are also
collaborating with their supporters by crowdsourcing
