Getting Started
The e-mini M comes with standard accessories such as batteries, and strap. This section shows how you can use them with the camera. Basic camera operations are also
described in this section.
English
Inserting Batteries
The battery compartment is located the bottom of the camera. You will need to use
two AA-size batteries.
To install the batteries:
1. Open the battery cover.
2. Insert the batteries properly. When inserting,
make sure that you follow the polarity directions which are indicated on the inner side
of the battery cover.
3. Close the battery cover.
Note
You do not need to use batteries when you connect a USB cable between the camera and
your PC. The camera receives power from the PC through the USB port.
Warning
If you wont be using the camera for an extended period of time, remove the batteries to
prevent leaks or corrosion.
Never use manganese batteries. Never mix old and new batteries.
Low temperatures under 0 C may reduce the output efficiency of batteries, thereby shortening the time that the camera is able to operate.
The recommended battery is AA-size alkaline battery.

English
Note
You do not need to use the power adapter when
you connect a USB cable between the camera
and your PC. The camera receives power from
the PC through the USB port.
Warning
Always be sure to use the power adapter from the manufacturer. Any other adapter may
cause damage to the camera, which is not covered under the warranty.
Grasp the power adapter, not the cord, when unplugging it from a wall socket.
If the power cord gets damaged (exposed or severed wires, etc.), purchase a new power
adapter from your local dealer. Using a damaged cord may cause fire or electrical shock.
Switch off and disconnect the AC adapter from the camera before unplugging it from the
wall socket.

mode is currently selected. For instance, in DSC
mode, the 4-Way Toggle Control allows you to
set the flash mode, select picture quality, and
operate the self-timer. In other operating
modes, such as MP3 and Audio modes, all these
buttons are used but they function differently
in each mode.
The next sections will discuss each operating

Set the camera to DSC mode
when you want to take pictures. To take digital photo
shots with the camera, make sure that there is enough battery power or that the optional power adapter is properly connected. (See page 10 to 11 for details on how to
insert batteries or connect a power adapter.) Connecting a USB cable between the
camera and your PC can also provide power to the camera. (See page 18 to see an
illustration of how to connect a USB cable.)
If you want to use a Compact Flash memory card to store your pictures, insert the

Picture Quality
Two different elements determine the quality of the pictures that you take. The first is
resolution. The camera takes pictures at 640 X 480 resolution. The second element is
the amount of compression applied to captured images. This camera can capture images using two types of compression settings: Normal (high compression) and Fine (low
compression). The lower the compression, the higher the image quality, but the fewer
the number of pictures that can be taken. Higher compression gives acceptable image
guality for most purposes and allows more pictures to be taken.
Normal Quality - 32 pictures
Fine Quality
- 16 pictures
(The total number of images that can be stored may vary according to the free space
available, the picture quality setting used for each shot, and the complexity of the subjects.)
Self-Timer
The Self-Timer gives a 10-second delay between the time you press the Shutter Release button and the time the picture is taken. The 10-second delay is indicated by the
Self-Timer LED flashing once per second for seven seconds, then twice per second for
the last three seconds.
After a picture has been taken, the Self-Timer is cancelled automatically. It needs to be
activated each time you wish to use it to take a picture.
