BACKGROUND

The demand for professional, quality, and experienced labor is increasing in line
with the technology developments. College as one of the tools to print competent human
resources in order to contribute to the development of these technologies. Department of
Mechanical Engineering is one of the departments in the Diponegoro University,
specifically in the Faculty of Engineering. A Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
Diponegoro University expected to posses the ability to follow the development of the
existing technology and able to provide solutions to all problems in the field of
mechanical engineering. Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering also must have a character
that is able to adapt in the world of professional work.
Education on bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Department provide the
students with advanced

academic education so that the students have a reliable

analytical skills as well as learning the spirit of high character. Formal education
acquired in college, in the form of the theory and practice of simulation equipment in the
machinery industry, is not sufficient for the initial capital as a qualified workforce and
professional in the world of work. Therefore, the theory and knowledge gained through
lectures must be applied optimally in the field in preparation for becoming a professional
in the field of Mechanical Engineering.

II. PURPOSE AND OBJRCTIVE

The purposes of the implementation of this work internship are to increase our
experience and knowledge as a student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at
Diponegoro University

The purposes of the work internship are divided into two general goals and specific
objectives. The general purposes of the implementation of the work internship are:
1. Improving skills for students in heating or cooling of mining processes, especially
mining industry are in the world of work are required to have the competence and
expertise and backed by certification to enter the employment world competition.
2. To increase experience and knowledge by direct implementation in the field work for
students and their problems in the mining industry.
3. Train and improve the creativity of students in order to implement and develop the
knowledge acquired in the lectures.
The specific objectives of the implementation of work internship are:
1. To find a general description of the PT. Freeport Indonesia.
2. To open career opportunities in PT. Freeport Indonesia.
3. Knowing details about materials, heating, handling, cooling process, and the
installation of the mining structure in PT. Freeport Indonesia.

III. BENEFITS WORK FOR INTERNSHIP

The benefits gained from this work internship is good for students, university, and for
companies where work internship activities are:
1. For Students
a. Provide a deeper knowledge of the world of work that will be faced by the
students someday.
b. An opportunity to deepen knowledge and understanding of the profession of
techniques to solve the problems of materials, heating, handling, cooling process,
and the installation of the mining structure in the mining industry.
c. Train students to think naturally in analyzing the problem in detail to obtain
resolving problems appropriate to be applied.
d. Train students in applying knowledge that has been obtained in accordance with
the conditions on the ground.

2. For College
a. As a matter of evaluation in improving the quality of students in the future.
b. To make good relations between the academic and the agency concerned.
c. Preparing graduates who are good and ready to work.

3. For Companies
a. To make good relations between the academic with the company.
b. Empower students to help solve the problems faced by the company, in
accordance with the student's ability.
c. To determine the extent of the company's knowledge in solving the problems that
exist in the field.

IV. WORK INTERNSHIP METHODS

The methodology used in the implementation of the work internship is a field

observation by student interns working with the direct guidance of tutors from PT.
Freeport Indonesia and the guidance Mechanical Engineering Department, Diponegoro
University.
Data collection techniques are:
1. Observation
Direct observation of the heating or cooling of mining processes.
2. Interview
Hold a direct dialogue with the relevant parties with a view to know the things that are
difficult to obtain by the method of observation.
3. Study of Library
To obtain data that support, then used reference literature related to the problems faced.
