Teaching philosophy

If you had the opportunity to step into my class for a day, you would notice
how comfortable and secure the students feel in their learning environment.
Colorful self-made portraits welcome you as you enter and artifacts of
learning are proudly displayed around the room. Students move confidently
around the space, mindful of routines and expectations. As you watch them

work cooperatively you would feel a sense of community that fills the room.
I believe that taking time to build a strong classroom community is
fundamental for student success. It is important to me that my students have
the opportunity to participate in collaborative learning and that each
individual feels appreciated, respected and supported by his or her peers. I

CONTACT

Getting to know each student as an individual is an essential component of

my teaching practice. I acquire an understanding of individual strengths,
interests and learning styles to meet each students learning needs. This

learner profile. I also use data to guide my instruction and strive to help each
and every one of my students grow.
I am constantly encouraging students to take risks, learn from mistakes, and
create knowledge through inquiry. I foster student engagement through
relevant and interesting lessons, opportunities for social interaction and by
offering choice in learning situations. I also believe it is important for
students to take time to reflect on their learning, identify their strengths and
areas for improvement, and set attainable goals.
Outside of the classroom, I am a person who identifies myself as a life-long
learner. Each year I set professional goals and am continuously striving to
challenge myself and improve my practice. I take time to reflect on lessons
and am comfortable seeking advice from colleagues and supervisors. I am
also a firm believer in collaboration and enjoy contributing to grade level and
school-wide teams that support one another in reflection, planning and
professional growth.
Throughout my first four years teaching abroad, I have developed a sincere
appreciation for aspects of other cultures. I feel passionate about teaching
and exploring new places, and recognize that living overseas provides a
wonderful opportunity for me to grow both personally and professionally. I
am excited to further my career as an international educator and look
forward to working with students and colleagues from around the world.
