1. Course Description

Evolution, concepts and theories related to mother and infant, nursing therapeutics for
mother and infant, the roles and responsibilities of the professional nurse in premarital counseling,
family planning, infertile condition and antenatal care using the nursing process with emphasis on
caring and family participation, within legal limitations and professional codes of ethics, in order
to maintain, promote and protect the physical, social and spiritual health of individuals, group,
families and communities.
2. Course Behavioral Objective
Upon completion of the course, the students will be able to:
2.1 Describe evolution, principles, roles and responsibilities of mother and infant;
2.2 Describe principles of premarital counseling and genetic disorders;
2.3 Describe principles of family planning and advise appropriate contraceptive or birth
control methods for couples;
2.4 Describe principles of nursing support for infertile couples;
2.5 Assess problems, needs and state principles of antenatal care;
2.6 Implement appropriate nursing care management to pregnancy discomforts.
