Dalhousie Gazette Photo Manager

The Dalhousie Gazette Publishing Society is looking to hire a Photo Manager for the 2015-16
publishing year (October 5, 2015 to April 6).
The Gazette's Photo Manager is in charge of all photography in the Gazette each week during
the fall and winter publishing academic year.
Responsibilities include:

planning shoots
recruiting, managing and assigning volunteer contributors
planning, pitching and carrying out cover shoots
editing photos for quality in accordance with journalistic standards

The Photo Manager is a member of the Gazette's paid staff. They are expected to attend and
contribute to staff meetings and contributor meetings on late Monday afternoons. Most shooting
is done from Wednesday to Saturday, but the successful Photo Manager will be available to
shoot when stories happen.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and has a passion for telling stories through
photos. The Photo Editor must be familiar with contemporary photographic equipment and be
able to assist volunteer contributors with the use of cameras. They must maintain
communication with other staff editors and be self-motivated. The Photo Editor must have a
healthy respect for deadlines and work hard to meet them each week. They must have access
to their own photography equipment.
A familiarity with the Dalhousie Gazette is an asset, although is not required.
The Photo Manager does not have to be a Dalhousie student, however preference will be given
to current students. King's Journalism students are encouraged to apply.
Potential candidates will be contacted for an interview. Resums should be submitted to William
Coney, Chairperson of the Publishing Board, at board@dalgazette.com. The best resums will
include both a cover letter detailing both a passion and a vision for photography in the Gazette
and clippings showing the candidates ability as both a photographer and a journalist.
