Suggested yarn: Oveja, by Filati Deluxe Fine yarns, 50% wool, 45% acrylic,

5% viscose, 50gr per skein/ball, or other similar DK (double knit) weight

yarn. 3 skeins, 150 gr, or 405 m.
Hook: 6.5 mm
Finished measurements of sample shawl, using stated yarn, above, after
gentle stretching and blocking: 53 cm at widest part, from straight edge to
picot; 2 m length. (Measurements are approximate.)
USA (american) crochet terms and abbreviations used.
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet

rep = repeat
R = Row, row
picot = ch 3, sl st into top/head of dc or st
stated.

ea = each
rep = repeat
inc = increase
dec = decrease
st = stitch

sp = space

NOTE: Ch 4 at beginning of a row is equal to a dc and ch 1.

Inc is equal to 2 dc in same st.
Ch 2 is equal to a dc (double crochet) for this pattern.
R 1 : Ch 5, dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in next ch, ch 1, dc in last ch. Ch 4, turn.
R 2 : Skip ch 1 sp, 2 dc in next dc (inc made), dc to end. Ch 2, turn.
R 3 : Dc in ea dc across before ch 1 sp, making an inc in last dc; ch 1, skip ch
1 sp, dc in 3rd ch of previous row. Ch 4, turn.
R 4 : Skip ch 1, inc in next dc, and dc in ea st across to end. Ch 2. turn.
Repeat Rows 3 and 4, til desired length to body/back. If desired,continue
even, do not make increases. This would be the width at the back. Or, if you
prefer a point at the back, start to decrease on the next row inmediately after
the last increase row. When you have the size you want at the back in length
and depth, start to decrease, to mirror the other end with the inreases. i.e.,
dec where there is an inc.
Dec: 2 dc closed tog = make a dc, but do not finish the st, leaving the last
loop on hook, make the next dc as first, then pull yarn through all (3) loops on
hook.
Continue in this manner until you have the same sts as in the beginning.
NOTE: You must obtain a total number of rows divisble into 4, + 1.
At the end of the last row, do not finish off, do not turn.
I would suggest at this point to count your total number of rows.
EDGING:
R 1 : Ch 1, sc into ch space along the inc/dec edge. (The other edge, without
the increases or decreases, is the neck edge.) [Ch3, sc into post of next

dc/ch3] rep between [ ] to next to last st, ch 1, hdc into last dc/ch 3, ch 1 and
turn. NOTE: Sc around the post of the dc, or into the ch space, not into the
stitches or chains.
R 2 : Sc in same ch sp, ch 3, sc in next ch 3 sp, ch 3, sc in next ch 3 sp; (3 dc,
ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch 3 sp, sc in next ch 3 sp; * (ch 3, sc in next ch 3 sp) twice,
(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch3 sp*, rep between ** across, ending with ch 1
and hdc in last ch 3 sp. Ch 1, turn.
R 3 : Sc in same sp; ch 3, sc in next ch 3 sp; * ( dc in next dc, ch 1, skip dc, dc
in next dc, [2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] in ch sp, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip dc, dc in next dc,
sc in next ch 3 sp, ch 3, sc in next ch 3 sp *, rep between ** across. End with
ch 1, hdc in last ch 3 sp. Ch1, turn.
R 4 : Sc in same ch sp; * dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip dc, dc in
next dc, [3 dc, picot, 2 dc in ch sp], dc in next dc, ch 1, skip dc, dc in next dc,
ch 1, dc in next dc, sc in next ch 3 sp *, rep between ** to end. Finish off.
Optional: Stretch and block if desired, but do not stretch too harshly.
