6. SYNCHRONIZATION
==============================================================
=
Before the first synchronization, you have to configure the sync settings.
You can choose which data types to sync:

Contacts
Calendar
Tasks
Notes
Bookmarks

Important: Some data types may not be available depending on your current PIM.
It is only possible to change the synchronization settings in the application while the phone is
connected.
If you try to change the settings without the phone connected, the menu option will be grayed out.
Field mapping between your computer PIM and phone:
We will use Microsoft Outlook 2003 as an example when describing field matching
between the PIM and phone. The phone can only support a limited amount of information so not every
field in Outlook can be copied to the phone
In the list below we show which fields are supported. There is also a limitation on field
lengths in the phone, therefore long field names will be truncated when displayed in the phone.

8. LIMITATIONS
==============================================================
=
Synchronization
If there is more data in the PIM than allowed in the phone, the synchronization will be aborted
and you will be asked to free up space on your phone or reduce the scope of the synchronization.
It is a good rule to check the number of items in the phone from time to time to make sure that
there is enough free space for new items to be synchronized.
Synchronization/Backup & Restore
There are some Microsoft Office components which can interfere with the PC Suite during
synchronization and backup and restore operations. If such a problem occurs, one or more Microsoft
error dialogs will be displayed, involving a CiceroUIWndFrame component and the current operation
will fail. To resolve this, you will have to uninstall Speech and Handwriting feature from Microsoft Office:
open the Windows Control Panel, choose Add/Remove Programs option. Look for Microsoft Office and
click Modify. Select Office Shared Features > Alternative User Input > Speech and Handwriting.
Disable Speech and Handwriting (you may have to restart your computer).
Text Messages
If you have changed location for where to save your messages in your phone (e.g. from Phone memory
to Memory Stick or vice versa), all messages might not be displayed in the Sony Ericsson PC Suite.
Bluetooth
If you are using Toshiba Bluetooth or IVT BlueSoleil stack, it is strongly advised that you pair your Sony
Ericsson phone outside the PC Suite, using the stack built-in pairing wizard.
If you are using Toshiba Bluetooth stack, you may experience a recurrent loss of focus in your office
applications (such as Word, Excel, Outlook) when Sony Ericsson PC Suite is running in the background
and you have a disconnected Bluetooth phone or modem device.
This is a Toshiba Bluetooth stack issue that can be encountered on any application that uses Bluetooth
modems and COM ports.
To resolve the issue, you can either:
- Reconnect the missing Bluetooth device

Shut down the Toshiba Bluetooth radio: right click the Bluetooth icon in the tray bar and choose
Shut down Bluetooth radio. You can restart it at any time using the same menu.
Exit PC Suite

You might have connections issues if there are multiple logged in users who use the same
Bluetooth hardware to connect via Sony Ericsson PC Suite. Please make sure that other users
are disconnected before trying to pair your phone.
File Studio
You might not be able to use the media files that you upload from your PC into your phone if the files
are not copied in the right directory. For example, a common misuse is to copy pictures into the DCIM
directory, instead of DCIM\100MSDCF. To make sure that all the media files are properly copied in the
right location on the phone, drag your files directly to the root folder of the phone, where you can see
folder Phone Memory and possibly Memory Stick if you have one. This way the File Studio will take
care of storing your files in the correct location, and youll be able to use them on your phone.
High Contrast Mode

Using Windows High Contrast Mode with the PC Suite makes the background images and
colors disappear in the Overview and Tools studios. The buttons are replaced by text, and are

still clickable.
